since the linked article doesn't have one... No, they didn't have one. They had nine. And a video. I can confirm, they have no images or video. It's possible they have some crap javascript or java, but definatly no images or video.
Rather then change the current theory, scientists went out and invented 'dark matter'. Its rather unfortunate you dont know what dark matter is (if you did, you would realize it wasnt invented)
Lets put it this way. You exist. Your handle is rs232. If i call you by 'rs232' to someone else, by your logic, i just 'invented' 'rs232'
Dark matter is a name given to matter that we can infer is there, but we cant tell what it is because there is no light coming from it or reflecting off of it.
I can prove dark matter exists right now (Well, in about an hour and a half, when the sun sets) Go outside at night. Don't take any light. If there is too much light around you, pretend you walk/drive way out of the city for this and into some woods.
All those trees in those woods, that you know are there (because you can see them in the daytime), well, at night, those are dark matter. They do not emmit light, and at that point, no light reflects off of them. These trees exist. They were not invented. And if you walk into them and smash your nose, but never happened to be there in the daylight to know they were trees, you too would want to 'invent' a name for the objects you couldnt see but sure did feel.
The dark matter out there in space is no different, except for the fact so far we havent seen ANY light from it at all, unlike the woods in the daytime.
To put it another way, I don't believe in God in order to explain anything. I believe in God because I think all the evidence points that being true. I'm sorry to hear you believe youre going to hell.
After all, while there might be a slim chance you follow all the teachings of your particular religon and might end up in that ones heven, for most all other religions, youre going to hell for not following them. And all the evedence you claim to have points to those being equally true as yours.
Oh, thats not true you say?
Well, once you understand why you dismiss every other god but your own, you will understand why we reject your god too.
Quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Photoshop#Releases Bold added by me
Continual revisions were made to the program, with new versions released in the following years. In November 1992, a Microsoft Windows port of version 2.0 of the software was released, and a year later it was ported to the SGI IRIX and Sun Solaris platforms. So, there atleast WERE unix versions made, as I have used the SGI version before. It's also worth noting that photoshop started out on the mac (680x0 arch, system 7 era)
Ahh, but these are CORPORATE copyrights. Personal copyright isn't mentioned, so I think it is still lifetime+50 years. Actually in the US, since 1999, artists have the option between life+50 years or never-expires by using anything the court conciders DRM (so rot13 counts)
If you have a work of art wrapped in DRM that you made today (2008), and say you die in 2040, the copyright will expire in 2090, however its still illegal to use that work in the public domain forever, due to the DMCA.
Granted, I hope the DMCA gets revoked before 2090, and also hope disney and others dont expand the life+50 years again between now and 2090, but dont really count on either happening without major changes to our laws.
Then again, I will be dead sometime between 2050 and 2060 most likely, so its not like I personally will ever benifit from allowing anyone to have a copyright on anything. So whats the point in honoring such laws?
I read it as, he had proof the dog was vacinated (reciept, the tag in hand not on the dog, medical record from vet, etc etc), but the judge dismissed that evendence (the proof) that it was vacinated, instead only charging for the fact the tag wasnt on the dog at the time.
While I agree with dog vacination and all, which includes the fines, i highly disagree with giving a person JAIL TIME for a crime that literally does not define that person as harmful to scociety. If the dog truely wasnt vacinated, then yea, he fucked up, and him and the dog pay the price. It sucks, but better than a human death over it. But none of that happened it seems.
My dog quite literally only leaves the house to go into the fenced back yard. I do not keep her collar (with tags) on her, short of having to make an exception to that (IE put her in the car to go to the vet, which has been the only exception in her 10 years so far)
If some cop (or anyone) walked by the fence, or worse tried to break into my property without cause, and wanted to destroy my dog because she was vacinated and I have all the proof of such, and that proof was within 100feet of the dog at any given time, the only detail was it wasnt on her neck at the time, you can bet id not only be pissed but fighting it in every way possible (legal or not)
It would not be far fetched that someone would be amenable to the idea and even build a business out of having sex with robots. NSFW, but kinad done: http://www.fuckingmachines.com/
I've often wondered about why 'privacy' and 'silent' options on phones are so poor. What I'd like is the ability to set up rules similar to these: Ive had the exact same problems, and the closest solution i've found so far is using googles GrandCentral service. (Check out the 'features' tab.) And yes its free. Later they will be adding more features which may or may not be free, but the base service should according to google.
It lets you setup rules like you want, and choose where to forward the call based on whos calling and what time. Others get dropped to youe grandcentral visual voicemail, which has a similar interface as gmail but to call history and voicemails, which you can forward/save as mp3 (Also insanely handy, as my current cell carrier only allows VMs to be saved for 14 days, then silently erases them.)
It's not a perfect solution, and yes, cells should almost all have these features built in i agree. But until then... I hope this helps
What are the specifications for Xbox ? Can you install Linux on it and turn it into a web server, perhaps a mirror for the GNU project as the ultimate insult ?-) Short answer: yes
Long answer: Its a 733mhz celeron with 64mb ram. The HD that comes with it will be 8-10gb but one generally desires to replace that part shortly after adding the modchip so you can run your own software. There are a number of linux distros made avail for it, from some early xbox specific ones, to full debian, or fedora installs, even bsd.
Clustering them of course would get more resources, and potentially boost performance for cluster aware apps. Its also possible to double the ram to 128mb, but is not an easy thing to do at all.
So basically the only reason to actually do this is the geek appeal and/or the fact MS loses money on each xbox sold.
No... it sounds juvenile, puerile, and self-serving. The only thing that would make it worse is if the trademark is actually granted. Really, is this what you have to do to get people to notice you. If he's really hot for attention, walk through town in a purple plaid suit with neon orange tie, but leave the internet community out of it. But if he did that, how would he make money? Right now all this attention is pulling in banner ad impressions and such. Unless one could find a company willing to pay you to walk through town in a purple plaid suit with neon orange tie, that would be really stupid for someone to do (Or atleast really pointless), while what he is doing now (making money) sounds really smart.
> With that being said I HIGHLY doubt any form of BSD or Unix was developed for this machine and thus the ability to run Linux is also highly unlikely.
Being a harddrive, it itself doesnt need an OS as complex as linux, since its not a general computing device but a storage device.
The computer itself no doubt has a DOS that was literally a disk operating system, which could have been nothing more than extra commands to work with data on the disk.
Now using this harddrive with linux, that would be possible if one only wrote a driver and encoding method.
As you can see from the stats, each record is stored as 1-100 characters, and a character is really only 4 useful bits of storage (The X and O bits dont appear to be used as data. possibly metadata thats usable, but lets assume not easily. And parity isnt usable storage. So that leaves bits 1-4) So it would take two characters to store one 8 bit byte. 100 chars a record means 50 bytes per record. This means the 5mb modal would hold around 2.4mb of usable storage (8 bit bytes)
All of that can be done in usermode. It could also be added to the driver, with 'raw' natural access provided as an option for modifying the original data stored on it in its native format. (Emulators for older systems have done this for decades)
It would be quite pointless of a project outside of its geek and fun qualities, unless perhaps some company still uses them and found you to perform a data recovery, or something else as unlikely.
But even without having a 'recognized' religion - who is to say my religion is less valid than e.g. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, etc.? That would be the Christians, Islamics, Judists(?), and Buddists:}
if the marks are close enough in sound, appearance, or meaning so as to cause confusion. So, for example, "Applet" computers may be off-limits; perhaps also "Apricot." Just wanted to point out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apricot_Computers
Apricot Computers was a British manufacturer of business personal computers, originally founded in 1965 as "Applied Computer Techniques" (ACT) and eventually reverted back to that name in 1990. and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_computers
The company, incorporated January 3, 1977, was known as "Apple Computer, Inc." for its first 30 years. On January 9, 2007, the company dropped "Computer" from its corporate name I dont know how different the british/american thing makes it, but apricot computers beat apple to the punch by ~11 years.
Also speaking of similarly sounding names, I recall having one of these too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acorn_Computers
Acorn Computers was a British computer company established in Cambridge, England, in 1978. Apples, Acorns, and Apricots! (oh my)
not to mention that while medicines have progressed considerably, no major disease seems to be completely curable without life-long medication. Sadly this is due to the fact that very little research is done to find cures.
Some of course is done, mostly in research, hospital, and university levels, which is almost the longest point to a usable treatment one can get, but it is better than nothing.
Most if not every last pharma company has a negative value interest in finding cures. Cures cut into profit margins. Treating symptoms for the rest of a persons life is what they want, thus all they look into doing.
I'd hope that once the richest people can afford to extend their life, they might start dumping some money into research on cures, out of self interest. Of course if they are greedy, you might have to hope you get the same problem those people get, else no money will have been tossed at your problem yet.
Don't forget if I am some kind of suspect and they have me on a no flying list I'm going to either cut all contact from everyone involved or I'm going to go "alright then" and go out all guns blazing the next day. Wait, i'm confused...
Are you saying that's what you would do if you were a terrorist, or saying thats what you would do if you were an innocent american who was put on this list?
Cuz seems to me to describe the feelings of both parties.
Sorry for the double post, but I forgot one thing.
My Macbook Pro is no more 'locked in' to its hardware than your Dell/Gateway/Lennovo laptop. Less so IMHO.
(Quoted the whole thing for content, but the bold part is related to my specific reply here)
Those last three words (or 6, whatever) are the Only part of his post thats really wrong. The mac is not less so locked than a pc. They are equally unlocked, as my last post pointed out.
However the flaming nature of your post towards him, all for three little words, is a little harsh. Especially concidering the main body of your reply is wrong, and the GP is correct for all but that last bit.
If that was all you had a complaint about, while valid, you could have pointed it out a little nicer.. Just my opinion i guess.
Sorry to rant, since now im being a little harsh as well, but didnt want someone else to point out those last three words and actually start a thread on it.
Sheesh, how's that kool-aid taste? Sure, if all you do with your computer is use it out of the box, then there's no difference. But once you spend money to buy an OS-X application, your are officially locked-in to Apple. If you want a new computer, there is nowhere else to go., unless you want to throw away your software investment. But that same logic works for the first Windows app you buy/download too. Which was the point the GP was trying to make.
And to take it to the next step, not using the machine as-is out of the box, well, again they are the same. I can wipe windows from my dell/hp/whatever, as well as wipe OS X from my macbook, and install another OS (say a pirated version of windows on the mac, or a pirated version of OSX on the dell ) and of course one can legally install linux or bsd on both of them.
So, I paid for [a locked version of] XP, and I [stole an unlocked version of] XP. I'm happy. I edited your last statement for accuracy. Wow. Where did you find this unlocked version of XP being sold? I want to steal one too (Or if youre aginst theft, please ignore that last bit.)
I would LOVE to steal an unlocked copy of XP from a store! But ive never seen such a thing exist, nor ever heard of one before you.
Now, of course i have comitted copyright infringement and downloaded an unlocked version of XP.
But as we all know, the punishments for copyright infringements are insanely strict compared to the punishment of theft. So I would much rather shoplift this version of XP you claim exists. Small fine and at most a week in jail. Compared to what I did, copyright infringement, by downloading it, where if i was caught it would be a huge fine and potentially many years in jail if i dont pay it (which i couldnt afford to do.)
Besides, its way way easier to steal something and get away with it than to pirate it and do the same. Damn public IPs being logged and all:/ To steal it i just have to avoid the cameras and have large pockets that day:D
So, as you claim, where is this XP cd/dvd sold? Or are you just spouting BS like all the others? I get so sick of that:{
Yes, it's nice to be able to sell your project to the PHB/MBA by saying "We'll always have support if we have problems!" I've always said: If your goal is to get your system back up fairly fast, and fix the problem well, community support is best. If your goal is to have someone to drag into court when it breaks, corporate support is the only game in town.
People and companys do have different goals in that area.
As silly as it might sound, some people/companys don't really care if their system is fixed fast (or at all) as long as they can recover the costs in court.
Gene Roddenberry and his gang tried to come up with scientific explanations for a lot of things portrayed in Star Trek. Did he ever explain why a starship would be equiped with 1970's-era computers that clattered and lit up every time they spoke? Yea, the budget.:P
The big-bang didn't happen sometime in the limitless void of space, the big-bang was the creation of the space-time continuum itself. Not according to current brane and bulk theories. In them, time and space existed forever, and still do. The big bang is just a massive release of energy, that reorders the energy and matter within our brane in a way that appears everything is moving away from that 4d point.
One suggestion was that two branes within the bulk colided, and all that energy that has to go somewhere goes into a big bang in a 4d brane (the bulk is either 10 or lately 11 dinentions while we are just in 4)
If those theories are correct, both time and space existed before the big bang, and also at some point in the future our brane will collide with another again and cause another big bang. This happens through out all the branes at different times and repeats forever.
Note that I word my post as if "this is", when it should be pointed out that my wording is this way "if these theories are right", so please take it as such.
Hardware has nothing to do with an operating system. Let me first get this out of the way...
HAHAHAHH
*ahem* ok, now, I would suggest you recheck (or, in this case, just check for the first time) what an Operating System actually is.
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=operating+system&x=0&y=0
operating system -noun Computers. the collection of software that directs a computer's operations, controlling and scheduling the execution of other programs, and managing storage, input/output, and communication resources. Abbreviation: OS The last three of those five options all are hardware based. Or if you prefer the 2nd entry down
operating system n. Software designed to control the hardware of a specific data-processing system in order to allow users and application programs to make use of it.
Rolling clocks forward by two hours is a pretty huge change in behavior for some servers, and there isn't much of a security risk in not rolling out the update automatically, so they're not going to. I'd like to point out that there is NO security risk in not putting the timezone update in the security repository. None that posting this time zone update will fix anyway.
If any security holes are opened by this, the fault lies in the other application that is using time incorrectly (using 'human readable' time instead of 'system time' for anything internal. Time zones are applied to system times ONLY for displaying it to a human!)
If that app is broken in that way, a patch to IT must be made and placed in security, to fix the problem.
Putting this time zone patch in the system will not fix the underlying problem, and it will happen again and be just as vulnerable, each and everytime between when the time zone changes and you run apt-get upgrade.
It's possible they have some crap javascript or java, but definatly no images or video.
