I think this is more to cover Microsoft's own rear-end than it is to make us feel warm and fuzzy.
I just went through helping a company incorporate as a Limited Liability organizationin the UK last fall, and included in the articles of incorporation is a section that states that each member is only liable for 1 UK Pound. I think This is similar, If Microsoft states that they WILL cover up to $5 for data loss, they can't be sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars instead.
well, the problem is I haven't found the right software to use with it on linux. Linux machines outnumber windows boxes 3:1 at my house, and I only use Windows when I have to.
However, might i point out that Bluetooth is rated to 100 feet maximum? I've never had it go much further than 20 feet with my current device. When other wireless protocols are faster, and allow for a much longer range.
This is part of the reason bluetooth failed/is failing. Terrible implementation, high cost, and ultimately, HORRIBLE SUPPORT.
My wife and I both have Bluetooth-enabled Nokia Phones (3650, and 3620). I have to say that trying to get it to link to my computer via bluetooth is the most painful experience I've ever been through... (this is using windows, mind you)
I had to find new drivers for the device, it doesn't seem to recognize more than 1 phone at a time, and the Bluetooth 'network' is continually non-functional.
I'll be glad the day that Bluetooth dies the death it deserves.
About 10 years ago or so, this would have been called FidoNet" FidoNet is now still alive, but is mostly just one large Flame War. It's a shame that they're using the web for this, as Zone 6 (Asia) is down to about 20 some members.
So now everytime someone requests info through the FOIA they will be questioned by the FBI or CIA? Is the government trying to discourage this?
Its kinda usless to have a right if you are harassed every time you use it.
Well, the key is to get everyone to start making requests, eventually they'll realize that they can't keep up with all of them, and they'll be overworked. They can't look into every person who does a FOIA request. maybe they'll give up.
The Days of the BBS are not long dead, Fidonet is still alive and kicking, in fact the Zone 1 Nodelist (USA) is growing... Software such as Synchronet is actively developed by the Author again, with a win32 interface, and a Linux port that does everything but play door games. File areas are available via FTP, and Fidonet still has a huge File backbone, My BBS usually recieves about 100 megs of files a week, (sometimes more) with many geared towards games.
Message areas are not only availible through QWK packets (can be downloaded via FTP as well) but also through NNTP, and Gopher.
Everyone loves door games as well, and there are many Leages (Inter-BBS) that still run games such as BRE, Falcon's Eye, Arrowbridge, and more.
So, to all of you who think the BBS got left in the dust with the Modem, think again!:)
I have $30 taken out of my paycheck, and put into a bank account every 2 weeks, This is the only bank account I have that is listed on Paypal. I leave all the money in my bank account, so that if anyone DOES manage to 'rob' my Paypal account, the account has a minimum amount of money in it, and they'll have no clue as to how much money is actually availible. (I'd rather loose $25, from a overdraft fee from the bank, than have someone rape $100 from my paypal account.
Granted, the easiest way to prevent this is to not use paypal, but up to this point, they haven't done me wrong, they've actually backed me up on an auction I won, and paid for, and the seller never shipped the product... Paypal got my money back for me within a week of submitting the dispute.
So, Paypal isn't ALL bad, granted their security should be a bit better, and perhaps they are a bit understaffed, because complaints do take quite awhile to respond to. (but *3* weeks?)
It's going to be just like in "Demolition Man" Virtual Sex without the exchange of bodily fluids.
The DNA would be decoded, and transmitted by touch, then re-encoded.. some form of star-trek-replication-technology would then create the sperm-cells, and the female would be pregnant.
This is scary, I just saw a program about this on Discovery Science a week ago, They were talking about how it wouldn't return complete sight, and they showed a simulation of what it would look like, it reminded me of the old 8-bit video games, except with more colors.
Well, at least those who are addicted to MAME and NES Emulators will be able to play them again:)
That's what I think also. I wish that all of the other boy bands were viciously killed seconds after they were on screen. I would love to see a whole battle where it nothing but shitty ass boy bands being mutilated and destroyed.
Isn't that what MTV's Celebrity DeathMatch is all about?
You know, Synchronet BBS is still around, and has been completely adapted for the internet... It will work with both dialup and telnet, but you must use an older version of the software to allow dialup access, otherwise 3.0 is strictly telnet only.
there is a Windows version and a Linux version availible, visit the website http://www.synchro.net for more info.
you've got some other sort of hardware issues, unless your PIII is some sort of mutant.....
I love how people always say "Oh, my computer is slow, I must need a new processor".. or "My processor sucks" as the hard drive sits at 80% fragmented....
Now you see the difference between Intel and AMD.. I really haven't seen Intel thanked by any of the Kernel hackers/developers the way AMD is constantly thanked for being so helpful.
Just goes to show you what the better processor really is.
Customs agent Allan Doody said each computer has between one to two terabytes of stolen software. A terabyte is equal to a thousand gigabytes. A printed directory on just one computer would span 4,200 pages.
first of all, I have a hard time beleiving anyone by the name of "Allan Doody".. and second.. 1 to 2 terrabytes? where are these kids getting their hard drives from? and where can I get them?
I wonder how many of these kids had "abandonware" and the like on their computers, and how would the government tally up the damages if the computer was full of programs by companies long out of business?
So the WTC Towers have been removed from this movie, and will probably be removed from a few more movies that show the NY skyline. Why?
Because it's disturbing to some people? Some people have mentioned before that it dishonors the memory of the building, and the fine people that were in it, and i totally agree.
So some people will be offended, what happens if those people watch older movies on video that prominently show the WTC Towers? is Hollywood going to grab all the films off the shelf, and edit them out of there?
Personally I'm offended by the fact that they were edited out. It's a great piece of our modern history, and Hollywood is afraid of having anything to do with it.

I for one welcome our new shotgun-toting robotic overlords. /burning karma

erm, who's = posessive. "who's code is what" means "who owns what code"

oh great, everyone lives longer (or forever), the planet becomes over-crowded, and we haven't invented interstellar travel.
Can anyone else see where this is going?

pfft! until they make it so you can challenege others like in TetriNet I'll stick with ... uh .. TetriNet :)
besides, Tetrinet needs more players :)
The DNA would be decoded, and transmitted by touch, then re-encoded.. some form of star-trek-replication-technology would then create the sperm-cells, and the female would be pregnant.
QUICK! SOMEONE SHUT IT DOWN!!!
I will watch the Pepsi commercial damnit! I will! but.. of course .. I will push the mute button on the TV like at least 100 million other guys :)
Well, at least those who are addicted to MAME and NES Emulators will be able to play them again :)
I don't know what's scarier, the fact that you came up with this, or the fact that you know the lyrics to one of their songs....

And what tests are you using? EVERY test I've ever seen has had the Athlon WASTING the Pentium III .. in everything... at all speeds.
Now you see the difference between Intel and AMD .. I really haven't seen Intel thanked by any of the Kernel hackers/developers the way AMD is constantly thanked for being so helpful.

you know, strangely this reminds me of an old BBS game called "BBS Hacker" except with more graphics, a few more options, and deeper gameplay.

and even longer before they get to the people who have Cable Modems and DSL at home....
Looks like Microsoft has their claws tightened around Yahoo's throat too... the Reuters link is here
