Wait till your Owner/CEO/CIO gets a cease and desist notification from $MegaCorp just because one of the whiz bang employees left major holes in their home network. It happened to the company where I work, and fortunately I am not the engineer responsible for the network. We had a policy that allowed for the very "openess" you want. The network and systems engineers had warned the owners but they were "put in their place" because they were "preventing" money making employees from doing their job.
In our case on a Friday evening one of the owners received a call at home from a BIG legal firm representing $MegaCorp informing him that he must immediatly cease distributing their copyrighted IP or face $MM in legal costs and loss of our "good name". Panic ensued and the network and systems engineers spent the weekend finding out what had happened, plugging the holes, and the following Monday trying to not say "I told you so".
The moral of the story: We plugged the holes, re-wrote all security and systems policies. The "openess" is now gone, replaced with tightly controlled environment. Sales are up, profits are up, and no more threats from $MegaCorp.
The offending person, well he had egg on his face and is now happily compliant with corporate policies and providing excellent service to his clients.
A big DUH to the authors/article!
A reseach article from long, long ago.....
UG: too many new words! "Spear", what was wrong with pointy stick?
Yog: "tell me about it, I'm still trying to figure out 'fire'!"
Are you kidding! Let's see, i'm walking down a road and there are lots of cars. I think I'll walk where I can get hit, then I can sue someone. Damn!
I've used google maps for walking directions, and yes there were times when I was directed to a road that was not pedistrian friendly. Guess what I went another way.
What an Id10t
The best cable service I ever had was in Columbus GA. There were three local cable companies each had service to the neighborhood. I was renting in an older neigborhood so naturally there were problems with the cable running to the house. But unlike every where else I have lived the cable company I chose did everything possible to make the service work perfectly. After about six months my cable router got fried, I called the company after work and after about 10 minutes with the help desk they called a technician in the area and he delivered a new router at 8pm. He stayed until he verified that all service was working properly.
Unfortunately I can't say the same for other places I have lived. I'm currently with AT&T and the service is "OK". Not great, just "OK".
My experience tells me that competition breeds excelence.
Ok, I'm sort of confused by "they have had considerably less time to modernize". Are they just emerging from a time warp? I know that according to many theories time is relative to the position of the observer, but aren’t they on the same planet?
They have had the same number of ticks on the atomic clock as everyone else on this planet. They have chosen to live in the 10th century!
It’s really too bad, so many great inventions came out of that region of the world.
AKA: The Republican Party.

There are lies, damn lies, and benchmarks.
