I can pretty much guess where the problem is. The solution: deal with it, or say no to garbage collection.

See, virtual memory and garbage collection don't mix. The larger the reachable set, the larger the area of memory the garbage have to scan, which translates to frequent paging in and out. Once the size of memory to search exceeds (available physical memory)*gamma, there every page will be swapped every time the garbage collector runs.

If the garbage collector runs on a timer , and the timer is faulty after sleep/standy, it could call itself more often than it needs.

The series contains all the monster fights and it contains the ending

Uh? what ending? Ive seen both endings and they both sucked. I am waiting for Sadamoto's ending (the manga).

The series isn't about the action, it's about the emotions of shinji.

The successful show combines as many elements as possible to capture all possible demographics. They got me on the robot action and sci-fi stuff.
They got u on psychological aspect. They'll probably drop in one or two nude shots to get the perverts on board.

Hmm.... to replicate the success of Titanic, maybe they can use Celine Dion's "A New Day has come" as the opening theme... just to be sure. :)

I can't see this movie doing anything but hurting the rest of the plot of the series.

X-MEN movie and SPIDERMAN movie has elements from the series but they are both on independent storyline and continuity. No Biggie. For all you know, they'll rename "Shinji Ikari" to "Saint John Anchorman" (see anno's website).

I called them up and they say they have *no recollection* of me signing up for the calling plan so they refuse to adjust the rates. When the telco switch you, there must be a third party verifier to record that you are making the switch to the new company but nothing is recorded by the calling plan. 13. Actually it is ENERGY DENSITY on Why Do We Still Use Gasoline? · · Score: 5

I work at Ford's Enviromental Vehicle project and i can't legally speak for them. Without trying to give out anything proprietary, in general, energy density is the real killer. 1 kg of gasoline efficiently tapped can give you 42-44 Megajoules. NiCad, Lead-Acid and Sodium-Sulfur of the same weight barely have a fraction of this energy. To replace 16 gallon (approx 42.39kg) of gasoline you need 14838.768 kg of lead acid battery. This is ten times the average weight of a car (around 1500kg). Since the car is 11 times heavier it should require 11 times more fuel. You do the math. It may more costly to your pocket and the enviroment (more energy use and heat dissipation).

Ultracaps? That's great. I know one company that sells ultracaps with 10,850.69 Joules/kg. Packs a punch for your house intruder but can't you anywhere (literally).

Ah.... somebody mentioned fuel cells. You can check out one of the suppliers ballard This is promising but the energy conversion unit is still heavy. Hydrogen actually packs more energy than gasoline: 38khw/kg (that's about 136.8 mejajoules/kg). Unfortunately, it hoards a lot of space. We could use methanol and carry methanol->hydrogen reformer that would take up more weight. After reliasing that the conversion unit takes more weight you begin to wonder, why don't you burn the hydrogen in the first place, instead of investing in the fuel cell stack, electric drivetrain and stuff? We are bothering with eletric motor? Why can't we just improve the efficiency of the internal combustion engine?

Relative to electric motor, internal combustion engine (ICE) is highly inefficient. While good motor with a good controller can give you close to 95% efficiency, an ICE is at 17% in a good day. Worse it's peak efficiency is at certain torque and at certain speed. That is why we have gearbox system and clutch. When the car stops, you have supply it with some fuel to keep spinning (idling) which is 100% loss (0% efficient). With electric motor you can adjust your torque and speed electrically and reclaim energy in braking.

I think I better stop here. in the meantime you are welcome to buy Ford electric bicycles and other stuff http://www.thinkmobility.com

Online gambling *is* a threat to their existence. Bear in mind Nevada has very little natural resources. It is freaking dessert! To spur the economy Nevada, the goverment made gambling legal. At that time, gambling is illegal in almost everywhere in America. By having an exclusive rights to gambling (relative to other American states), Nevada makes huge profits. If other states are allowed to gamble as much as Nevada, I am willing to bet (pun intended) that Las Vegas will not be as popular as it is today.

Another example, a few years back, Windsor's casinos are causing Detroit residents to step into Canada to gamble away their money. The Detroit mayor at that time wanted to allow detroit-based casino so Detroit residents can gamble it away in their own city.

sorry too nitpick but I think you meant nuclear fusion (hydrogen --> helium) is cleaner than nuclear fission (uranium --> krypton + boron)

The nice think about uranium is that you just need to fire a neutron to start a chain reaction. With hydrogen, you have to heat it up plasma state and high pressure before any nuclear reaction happens. I think plasma state requires temperature of around, off-hand, 15,000,000 K, give or take a number of magnitude. That's about the temperature of the sun, which is nature's efficient hydrogen fusion reactor.

Now you know where the myth of cold fusion is coming from, eh?

Microsoft has demonstrated that many people are dependent on microsoft doing well. If microsoft goes down, the will take down NASDAQ, DOW, DJIA, etc all the way to London with them. Microsoft is an essential part of the US economy, if not the world. they are telling DOJ/USGOV that if we go down, we'll take everybody down with us; so go easy on US and we'll go easy on ALL OF YOU.

  24. Aint no silver bullet on Open Sourcing Windows Based Project · · Score: 1

From my observation, open-source works best for software in maintainence mode; other programmers introduce feature changes and/or bug fixes while maintainer decides what to incorporate and what to reject. For initial development it is usually inappropriate, you may have deadlines to met but others don't, and they don't get paid for it. case in point, linux, perl, emacs.

The timer system may be a good candidate especially if it is a utility library, i.e. it is something you base your work on but it is not the final product your company makes money on. LGPL/BSD will be appropriate here.

If you want to get started, look in Delphi for Linux and see if the code is portable to the Windows environment. The reason is, open-source software usually needs a foothold in an open-source platform; open-source community within a closed-source platform users are smaller. Hence, developing open-source software mainly for a closed-source platform is a real challenge. Case in point, netscape. Focus on main development on open-source platform, and adapt the changes to the closed-source port (which you may have to pay for).
