The thing is I actually buy games. I really want to buy Dawn of Discovery, and most likely the new Settlers game. But I'm sure as hell not going to put up with the DRM. It pains me to say this but maybe the way to go is like Dragon Age; no DRM for the basic game, but if you want extra content you have to link it to an account. Oblivion didn't have ANY DRM (not even a CD key) and surely it made tons of money. I'm getting so tired of this shit maybe it is time to switch to a console, although I tend to like RTS/Tycoon/Empire building games which are typically poor on the console.
People have been killing for just as long as they have been fucking. For a long time the solution to grievances or injustice has been murder (Burr–Hamilton duel, Rome assassinations, Code of Hammurabi). Only recently have we replaced this with courts.
I've been using sleep mode on my windows laptops through three iterations of windows (XP, vista, 7) over 10 years and only once did I have a noticeable problem, due to shitty drivers keeping the laptop awake (solved by replacing the drivers). If you have a laptop there is no reason to not use sleep or hibernate unless you don't plan on using it for a week; anything else is FUD.
I'm not trying to be flaimbait, but do you know how many sue-happy morons exist, at least within the US? Uncontrollable kids accidentally hitting the off switch going 15mph over the limit on the freeway, probably cutting off the power steering, is one example. We can't even get people to stay off the phone when they drive.
I have a 96 Toyota, they went to drive by wire because their throttle cables we're junk, I've had to continuously fix and twice replace mine on my tacoma. At least that problem was deceleration.
Dehydration, congeners, and possibly B vitamin (thiamine) deficiency. I stick to vodka, decent scotch, and belgium beers and I never get a hangover. My relatives came over one day with a bounty of coors light and the hangover it caused was one of those "I'm never drinking ever again!" moments. Same with the $4 bottle of vodka in plastic (Gordons I believe). I learned my lesson and now stay reasonably hydrated (you reach a limit of how much alcohol+water you can drink without having to visit the bathrooom every 5 minutes), take a B vitamin complex before bed, eat a piece of bread (if your stomach is growling all night and you get no sleep=worse hangover), and drink decent quality alcohol and I never get hangovers anymore.
I agree. I don't have any idea of the internals of Canonical, but it does appear they hired someone who hardly used it as their CTO. Maybe they were in dire need of business acumen, which could be more important than intricate knowledge of the product if they are having problems moving it.
Yah I have no children, yet I still pay property taxes on brand new luxury schools (how many elementary schools are needed within a square mile?). Not only that, but some of the schools are used for Church services on weekends, which if it isn't illegal it should be. You could try to convince me that it is worth it for an educated society, but first you would have to convince me our society is actually educated (I would describe it more as functionally retarded).
All of these complaints are dealt with by Microsoft Security Essentials (maybe not H or D, but D is hardly a major complaint). I'm serious, it is install-and-forget. And most malware I've seen is lately is proxy through ads, flash, or javascript, requiring very little user action. So if you run Windows, unless you lock your browser down with noscript/adblock and don't run adobe software (or run your browser in a virtual machine) you pretty much need an antivirus, even if you have good habits.
Did you just start using computers or something? Does nobody remember Apple computers (system 7 I believe) which would crash and chastise you for not shutting down properly, all the fucking time? The funny thing is that my Windows 7 partition crashes less than my Ubuntu partition and my macbook. It does have to be restarted once a week due to updates; Billy G said that was supposed to be fixed for Vista but they obviously forgot about it.
Except bing maps is far superior to google maps. Google maps is more technical but both bing maps and even mapquest are superior for navigating to unfamiliar areas. Google maps will give you the technical name of the freeway, but bing maps/mapquest will give you the name of the freeway as it appears on the freeway signs (for example going to LAX google will say to get onto the San Deigo freeway, which is true. However, the freeway signs say Santa Monica. Both bing and mapquest say Santa Monica on the printout). In addition, bing maps will give you location markers on the printout (turn right after the 7-11).
I don't have a reference on hand but there was an article on here about a year ago on tower greenhouse farming, where someone demonstrated that tons of food could be grown in a very small amount of ground space. Depending on the location, power could be a combination of nuclear, solar, and wind. The later two are somewhat inefficient but continuously see improvements.
Near zero? The likelihood of someone living anywhere close to me that has both the desire and knowledge to get into my minimally secure network is similar to the likelihood that an extremely hot girl will approach me and give me her number.
And when Ubisoft goes into the ground, as most game companies eventually do, will I still be able to play AC2, with its non-existent save game servers? EA has had no problems shutting down servers for games more than a couple years old. I routinely play Wizard's Crown, a game released for the PC in 1985. In fact, every PC game I have ever purchased I am still able to play in some form or another. In understand Ubisoft hates pirates, but I buy games, and I'm not going to buy a game that will potentially be useless in a couple of years.
The best thing would be for this to drive Ubisoft into the ground so no one else bothers going with DRM so draconian.
The applications I despise in Windows violate this rule. MS Messenger and Steam are my biggest offenders. If I wanted to minimize you I would click that freaking button. Offer an option in config like utorrent if you want it to go to the notification area instead.
Thanks! but I live in the US. Customs+shipping would probably equal the cost of a brand new cheap Dell. I should probably just hit thrift stores, although they never advertise specs.
I've dropped my HTC Tilt about a dozen times onto hard surfaces like concrete. The design is actually pretty genius because most of the force goes into the battery cover popping off the back, which leaves the phone relatively undamaged. It has a few minor scuff marks but otherwise works perfectly (other than the shitty OS).
Yah but then you don't get any icons for non-steam games, which are the majority of my games. Using vista game explorer editor I can have nice huge boxart for every single one of my games, even my old DOS ones I launch via dosbox (Wizard's Crown, Conflict: Middle East Political Simulator, Romance of the 3 Kingdoms III, etc).
I'm not steam's biggest fan, but I liked how minimal it was. I do like the different game layout views; the icon enlargements are a nice touch. I'm not sure how useful this is to me as I have many non-steam games, so I edit windows 7's crippled game explorer instead of using the steam launcher, so I rarely see the steam interface. The store does seem much faster though.

You're mistaken. Now Red and Blue both say "Get off our lawn."

The likelihood of someone bothering to bypass my home MAC filter is similar to winning the lottery or being burglarized.

Satan phone is more like a windows mobile phone. You're pretty much free to do whatever you want but you're eventually going to be punished for it.
If you have an old 486 I'll take it. I wish I kept mine (mom sold it in a garage sale). DOSbox just isn't the same.
Here is an example of my game library. This doesn't include large games I haven't played in awhile.

See this for an example, though I have my boxart much larger.

Social psychologists say no shit, thanks for finally hearing about our field.
