  1. Improvement can often be a slap in the face... on AMD Launches Counterstrike Against Core 2 Duo · · Score: 1

I find it an interesting thought that the statement from the article quoted, "while imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, improvement can often be a slap in the face" is true for two competing hardware companies, the same could never really be said of contributions to open source software. You don't generally see too much complaint about open source developers using and building upon existing projects, or even outright borrowing the best features of competing projects (e.g. Gnome/KDE, Linux/BSDs).

  2. Use XML and XSLT/XQuery on CSS for the LDP? · · Score: 1

Why not create an XML schema for documentation, then use something like XSLT or XQuery (implemented in Qexo, part of GNU Kawa) to create valid XHTML (or plain HTML, plain text and others...)? This future proofs against any new web paradigm and gives complete separation of design from content.

Okay, so it's late and I was tired... but the first thing I tried when I reached for a calculator was reversing 196 (=691) and adding the sum of the digits (1+9+6). Adding them both together gives 707 (a palindrome).

    Spooky or what?

But seriously, could this have anything to do with why it may have this odd property?

Funny how among all this talk of a war against terrorism nobody makes mention of anyone other than "islamic fundamentalists"...

Interesting how the US doesn't include the IRA in this... I'm not against the goals of the IRA, but they are terrorists, and the US has done little over the years to reduce American support of them.

Also from this example... the British Army went to war against the Republicans (shoot to kill policy and all that...), and look exactly how far it got them...

Many people in America seem to be out for revenge, but how can you attack people who have already given up their lives in suicide attacks?

Actually it won't support DVD out of the box anymore, you'll need to buy an add-on pack. Supposedly this is because all the people who bought PS2 and were forced to use their controlers and got pissed with it. The add-on pack will contain Microsoft's DVD software and Remote Control. Probably just another way to make sure you buy the Microsoft Remote. Although how long before you get a regionless third-party DVD player on X-Box? Roll on!

  15. Good Idea on Australians Barred From Gambling Online · · Score: 1

Banning companies from pursing debts from Australians seems a much better way of "banning" online gambling as any other way I can think. At least it puts the onus on the websites rather than the government being forced to go after each person.
