If you are getting pounded that hard, don't use your main Windows install on the internet.
You can download free VMWare browsing appliances and effortlessly browse using another OS, or load an expendable Windows installation in Portable VirtualBox that can be replaced with a complete backup copy (install Portable Vbox, install Windows,.rar a copy for safekeeping), or load Linux in a VM.
All easy to do, all free, so no excuse for a geek not doing them as needed.
"Why would a website like PCWorld recommend it's users NOT to ban Internet Explorer? "
"It seems like me this is just Microsoft propaganda,"
You just answered your own question. Paper computer mags are targeted at noobs who still get their info from dead tree media, and they are not in the business of attacking their advertising base!
Politics is intertwined with everything we do, and in recent years micromanagement by lawfare is well on the way to strangle national and personal freedom.
The tendency to add laws to micromanage all human conduct is certainly of interest to nerds, as we are despised by the ignorant masses who will cheerfully shitcan OUR rights and freedoms for their convenience. In a world suffocated by the law of the rich and powerful, the only "free" people may one day be those who reject it entirely and are willing to pay the price.
I don't much care for the only "free" people being the Timothy McVeighs of the world. Instead of letting it get that far we need to watch for every threat to freedom and expose it.
Espionage is a tolerable cost of outsourcing because all that matters is profit. Some public embarassment will result now and then, but it is perfectly reasonable for people to put national loyalty far above any concern for a foreign corporation.
I'd cheerfully help the US find information about any foreign company I worked for, because I have no moral obligation to a corporation and least of all one from an enemy/competing (there is no difference!) country. It is ridiculous to expect people to be loyal to foreign employers, and China has every historic reason to view all such as economic colonials!
The idea that there are righteous and non-righteous ways to fight is merely a propaganda tool, which is why those concepts vary by ideology and location. The only objective "wrong" one may commit in war is losing, and that is certainly NOT determined by sportsmanship.
One man's terrorist IS literally another man's freedom fighter, and the idea of sportsmanship, international law, and all other such drivel should be clearly seen as "ritual constructs" but nothing more. They don't help kill the enemy, though they do make the practitioners feel self-righteous...
"I bet you the Defense Department could find lots of savings by sourcing their parts from Nintendo, too!"
Until the system fails because it wasn't built the have the shit beaten out of it in daily use. Military gear resembles professional construction equipment and is usually made in smaller quantities. While COTS solutions are attractive, they don't always suit the tasking.
"Too late, the flight software source code and main engine plans have already been destroyed by the US government to prevent any later administration from restarting the program."
If one got them for the cost of transport with no strings attached, it would be easy to cut them up for scrap onsite and make a nice profit. Google how aircraft are scrapped at AMARC for examples.
Let's remember why Mussolini was so popular (among other things, he had the will to attack the Mafia with harsh methods) and why the Italian people fought on the side of the Axis. Seeing him through the lens of Allied propaganda is not accurate.
Being beaten then opportunistically switching sides in 1943 isn't quite the same thing as a profound social repudiation of Fascism. Those who were on the Left never liked it, but it was quite compatible with the rest of Italian society including the Vatican, whose (amply documented, see "Operation Ratline") efforts even extended to protecting fugitive Nazi war criminals after WWII ended. The Pope was also buddies with the delightful Ante Pavelic, even granting him an audience. The Catholic Church is fundamentally Italian, and so are its actions.
When the movie industry no longer needs actors, it will be freed from their limitations. There being no obligation to a virtual character any more than a character in a novel, this opens up avenues for creativity.
As for porn makers having no ethics, that depends on ones preferred ethical construct. They have no obligation to avoid story lines you don't like, and laws vary by location.
The more art and media can use technology to free themselves from anyone who would impose any restraint other than voluntary non-consumption of product, the better IMO.
We could have MANY rovers instead of wasting money on the Shuttle. The hurry to get men in space without exploring it first or developing robotic tech we absolutely require anyway bleeds vital resources from unmanned programs whose missions can last for years.
The purpose of manned missions is essentially to have a man on the spot to run machines, not very different from having an engineer run a steam locomotive. We should not want this awkward and archaic way of doing business. Manned exploration is a hangover from when the loss of ships and men was literally trivial so plenty of them could be expended. Sailing ships routinely vanished without trace. Ships were cheap, rockets are not.
There will always be a barrier between man and off-world external environments, he will always have to interact through that barrier, so it makes sense to perfect systems that will do this remotely. We are already working toward that goal on Terra, where we prefer to send machines to mine the earth, explore the depths of the sea, disrupt IEDs, and so forth. It is a natural progression to do this in the utterly hostile environment of space.
Send the tourists at leisure and after technology is vastly more advanced. No need to put the cart before the horse.
"He's a Communist. Why is he worrying about the rights of an individual?"
Pretty funny how the political theorists of Slashdot can blithely ignore Communist practice and mod your post Flamebait, but will gleefully attack _religious_ outcomes in contrast to religious theory. (Che Guevara looks hawt from Mom's basement. Mmm, so beardy and macho...)
Religion and politics should be judged by the results they produce, not by theories have shit to do with facts on the ground.
The only way to be free of control by the Man is to suicide before he inevitably invades your mind. Your are tracked constantly because you are valuable, he must and will own you unless you break the chain in a way that ensures no information can be retrieved from your brain. Pleasant dreams.
Have you forgotten how Communists must institute Communism by erasing private property and killing all who would oppose them? There is no room for democracy under Communism which is why it doesn't happen, and for the state "to administer property in behalf of the people" it must crush all opponents. Communism requires Bolshevik methods to take and maintain power, Bolsheviks like all extreme ideologues don't give up power, so you get Stalin or Mao running the show while all the coffee-house "theorists" bemoan the lack of true Communism.
The essence of Communism is its ultimate end products, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot.
That's why I favored the Cold War, including its excesses, and favor the killing of Communists by any state that would do so. They cannot be reasoned with, so do 'em like Che and handle the problem.
North Korea is an active military threat to South Korea and an exporter of weapons to our enemies. North Korea is no joke, and nearly pushed UN forces into the sea during the first part of the Korean War. While what Norks do to each other DOESN'T matter much (Asia follows Asian rules beyond our judgement), what their government does has considerable effect.
Italy is a peaceful country at the bottom of Europe. and unlike North Korea is run by its people however imperfectly. It has little effect on anywhere else, no military that mattered since WW1, and no interest in regaining its Empire. So what if Italians do silly shit to each other? That's an internal matter.
"I can understand that an assistant principle might not have any idea how bombs are made. There's no shame in that."
Say WHAT?
Explosives are a basic application of science, and any well-rounded person should have a fair idea how bombs work and thus how to make them.
When I was going to school back in the Cretaceous period, there was plenty of information on explosives in the school library, They were treated as something ordinary (possibly reflecting the "Greatest Generation" folks who ran things back in the 1960s/70s) along with all sorts of military info.
Now get off my lawn, which BTW I didn't blow up with my chemistry set.
Kicking China out of WTO or banning their imports and starting a trade war over trifles isn't useful or smart. There would be no benefit to doing it.
Other than that, great idea.

"don't start calling motion-capture 'Avatar-technology'."
Quite right. 'Avatech' has a nicer ring to it, like 'Sensurround'.
Synthetic attention whores will then fill the demand for such drama.
As technology becomes more accessible, fanfics may also improve in quality...
"Bring back Ronald Reagan!"
To hell with that, make my dream Golden Girls/Roseanne Barr 3D high def. Crisco party!

War works quite nicely.
Force trumps law, because law is an imaginary construct and bullets are real.

Switzerland has an unusual degree of cultural and ethnic uniformity that greatly aids the process.
"every time a communist country emerges suddenly half of the world tries to destroy its political and economical base."
Makes perfect sense considering the Communist threat. Let's not get amnesia about that.
How cute and clue-free is THAT comparison?
North Korea is an active military threat to South Korea and an exporter of weapons to our enemies. Communism fails because it must exterminate rights, such as that to private property, to exist. That's not a matter of "labels".
Communism also fails because it inherently facilitates the rise of Bolsheviks/Maoists, who are best suited to killing people who oppose Communism.
