There is no rush to send humans. Send robots for a century, and the improved robots will better serve the humans who follow them.

I have plenty of fire ant mounds on my property and have found an easy, effective way to kill and repel ants. It's worked for twenty-plus years.

Laundry detergent or other strong soap works perfectly. I leave plastic buckets of soapy water around my buildings for quick cleanup before going indoors, and dump them on ant mounds as needed. The soap penetrates the mound, the ants die, and the mound cannot be reoccupied. I fill emptied detergent jugs with water for hand washing and anti-ant ops. (Why so much hand washing? I'm a mechanic and I keep chickens.)

Drench the area around your wheels and any other ant ingress routes with strong laundry detergent solution, pine oil, or whatever cleaner is cheap at the Quickie Mart.
