I heard a rumor that Malda and other "high-ranking" VA employees will be named in a lawsuit centering on LNUX's cratering stock price. Has anyone else heard this rumor?
I just heard some sad news on the radio - "Alice in Chains" lead singer Layne Staley was found dead in his Seattle home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to grunge rock. Truly an American icon.

Did you know... that Whitney Houston's debut LP (called simply "Whitney Houston") had four Number One singles on it? It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks... but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written... about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves... since... it's impossible, in this world we live in, to empathize with others. We can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message. Crucial, really... as beautifully stated on the album.
... what kind of a rabbit Steve Jobs is going to have to pull out of his ass to top this? I suppose the real blame lies with Motorola for not cranking up the MHz on their PPC line, but I just don't see how Apple is going to persuade people to buy new products when the processor speed languishes.
One of my relatives is responsible for IT spending for a rural county in California. I am looking at Linux as an alternative to Windows on the desktop, and I have suggested StarOffice as an alternative to MS-Office. SO6 should be available by the time the county makes its decision.
One thing I am interested in is a directory services solution for Linux. Novell has Linux binaries for their excellent NDS/eDirectory product, but I'm worried about Novell's viability as a company. Also, I would prefer to use an open source solution, but the only OSS directory services software that I am aware of is OpenLDAP, and it just doesn't seem mature enough yet for production use. The county has about 1500 client systems.
... a Beowulf cluster of these?
What the fuck do they know?
If you are running Mac OS 9.x or below, you are definitely gay. If you are running OS X, there is a 70% chance you are gay.
... a Beowulf cluster of these?
... a Beowulf cluster of these?
... a Grid Computer of these?
... a Beowulf cluster of these?
IANAEE, but I think these new 3G networks would make a pretty good message-passing backbone for a Beowulf cluster, IMHO. YMMV.
This will show those wooden shoe-wearing bastards!

Would you consider using a proprietary, closed-source TCP/IP stack if it meant Linux would finally get decent network performance?
Please explain, thanks.
I've used my Debian box to give myself a colonoscopy.

The write-up says the chip has "6 Mb" cache. That's 6 megabits, not megabytes. The Itanium has 0.75 megabytes of cache.
I just thought you'd want to know.
Thus, AMD is irrelevent to the ./ community.

This year, I'm getting Stallman a copy of Microsoft Project.
But I doubt that the hobbyists who work on "Open Source" projects have the professionalism necessary to contribute to this cause.
