Big fan of intermapper (www.dartware.com)... It can use nagios plugins as well. It's fairly cheap.. We monitor about 1250 devices at the moment with it... can be set all way down to 5 seconds. Server and Client are both in Java... so more or less it runs on any platform.
CDW usually has things in stock... But they aren't a gold partner.. If you want support, you'll have to go to your local cisco rep which will be pissed off because he didn't get the credit for selling you those things. Anywho.
My problem tends to be not ordering products they just got released. my 4510-E's for the new office were delayed 6 months because of power supply problems and +E blade problems.
The normal lead time on any 4948 or 4948-10G I order is 4-6 weeks. Also their normal products like ASA5510's ship in days..
If cisco delivered servers the way it delivers network gear:
You will order your blades and get them 3 months later after harassing your rep over and over until they finally send them via VP signatures via a warehouse.
When people want servers, they want them in days... not months. This can only end poorly.
Doesn't make sense... In Iraq, they installed cellphone jammers on the HUMV's... and it worked for about a month.. Now the bombs look for the LACK of cell phone signals to go off.
I had the keyboard start acting up as well on mine. In addition the hard drive crashed sometime later. In order for them to do ANY service on it.. A) I had to replace the hard drive with one that worked. B) Install windows on that hard drive C) Submit laptop to HP to get the keyboard fixed. D) Get Laptop back.. E) Put bad hard drive back in F) Ship it back to HP in order for them to fix the bad drive.
I pretty told them to pound sand and bought a keyboard replacement on ebay.
I used VoIP in Iraq/Kuwait when I was there. Worked great. As long as you only go through 1 sat hop, it really wasn't that bad. It's better than nothing. I used packet8 out there btw.
the only problem with this is that most jobs require a secret clearance. and most companies are unwilling to sponsor you for one. The best way to play this out is to go to the middle east (say kuwait... kuwait hasn't had a death in 2 years) and get a clearance there (believe me.. they hand them out like political yard signs)... stay there for one year.. do a good job... then go to europe or italy with a secret clearance. In addition, you won't have to pay german taxes if the US says your job cannot be taken by a German because of the clearance status... bonus all around.
and because of that.. I WILL NEVER EVER EVER vote for bush. i have reasons... although I cannot discuss them.. But remember, a vote for bush is a vote for rumsfield.. sorta.
To get US TV in Kuwait, I hooked my tivo to my linux box in the US. Use RealServer to encode the stream. And run Tivowebserver on the tivo. I can change the channel and watch TV in Kuwait from the states..:) Using a BTTV card in the linux box to do it. works well
"Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like Im working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too.. I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work."
Openssh is also exploitable today. (AGAIN!) They missed a few from yesterday.
http://www.flyingbuttmonkeys.com/ssh/ has a few RPMS (9/8/7.3) i just compiled to patch the problem.. (backported).. THe SRPM is also available for those unwilling to trust my patching efforts.
Or you can wait a few hours for official redhat releases.
you have an email address to...
and a resume www.briangannon.com
and the Source RPMS.
http://stradlin.com/ssh
if you do a diff on the sources, you will see I only edited buffer.c
my intentions are completely noble.
How can you really trust Redhat? One of the disgruntled developers could put a backdoor in a patch?

Agreed... If i'm not mistaken
the 6500 NAM and NAM2 blades run linux.
and the older Cisco Content Manager caching engines ran linux (I rooted one).
So.... You're right about the compliance part.

This is stupid.

I will NEVER own another HP again.
I prefer watching a movie at the Alamo drafthouse (www.drafthouse.com).

Can't you already set up Xorg to configure which monitors are with which keyboards/mouse etc..
The only issue would be the USB/user thing... but with hald/gnome-volume-manager (not sure of the KDE equiv), this can be worked around...
Why buy this product when I _THINK_ you can do this already.
Everyone changes at different times as it is... some countries don't change time at all..
so it's really not a world decision.

thanks :)..
it's good to be back.,
They are talking about getting their own net connection.. Not going through DISA SWA.
:) I left there.. so i have no idea what state they are in now.
BTW, I was the one locking down the firewalls in S. Iraq / Kuwait.
I used VoIP in Iraq/Kuwait when I was there.

I've released the SOURCE RPM...
you can always grab it and see for yourself..
I only changed buffer.c
Feel free to see for yourself..
I had to make all of these this morning to patch our systems..
ChiefArcher
I just made RH9/8/7.3 RPMS
since RH hasn't released any yet...
it's backported from the 9.0 update ssh SRPM.
my bandwidth is VERY limited... so AIM ME at "Swell500" and i'll send ya a link to grab them until RH releases official patches.
ChiefArcher
Speaking of bad versions.
0 Day SSH EXPLOIT out today..
CVS DIFF patch Here
Details are sketchy here
Redhat and others haven't released patches yet.

I honestly don't think Eric Raymond can stop the DoS attackers to stop.. It's like telling everyone not to speed on the highways.
As much others respect Eric Raymond, I don't think he will have any influence..
In fact, by publishing the article, it may even produce the opposite results... More people now know that SCO is being attacked and want to join in.
No, I'm not attacking...
ChiefArcher
My guess is it won't work. Apple has always put a ROM on the motherboard that tells it how to boot Mac OS's (and what versions NOT to boot).
This computer probably doesn't have the licensed Apple ROM and therefore will not boot any Mac OS without some serious hardware mods.
