But it does cost a lot, that has to count for something with the mac crowd...
I kid, but seriously, I considered replacing my blackberry, but then I saw that as an existing customer, I would have the privilege of only getting $50 off, making the price $350 as opposed to $180 for new customers.
I guess I'll just wait a year or two until it's the free upgrade phone.
I wasn't going to either, but my x64 based laptop came loaded with x86 vista (and ~15GB of other useless shit). Since hp and nvidia refuse to make xp drivers available and my wifi card is dodgy at best under linux, I had to troll the dangerous waters for my own install dvd. I did have to call and get a code from the robot lady (which failed) and then talk to "Garak" and get another code, but it activated. I think I'm legal, but I'm not about to call the bsa and find out...
"You can't count on Outsourcing to run your IT...sorry buddy. Using Outsourcing may be cost effective, but the obvious trade off is that someone else is really doing your job, and if that person drops the ball, then you really screwed the pooch, at least that's what your boss will think."
Especially when companies are continually "consolidating job bands" and "flattening org charts", apparently this leads to generic titles such as "web programmer" with wages between 35k and 95k. Gee, I wonder what the "prevailing wage" usually turns out to be...
Bling. Glossy looks more expensive and quasi-futuristic. That's it. As many people as there are complaining about wanting matte now, there'd be a hojillion more asking why the high price tag when the screen looks "all old and stuff."
We didn't have a computer class until 9th grade (1992-3), and all it taught was how to save files to a floppy on a Mac SE. The next year (1993-4) there was a big deal made about the new "Media Lab" full of then cutting edge mac performas. They even had a cdrom (where you put the cd in a cartridge). The closest thing to computer science was learning how to edit a tiny video on the mac. The next year (1994-5) it was time to learn real computer skills. We learned dos and word perfect 5.1. After that? Nothing. There were no CS classes to sign up for.
Or why you're being prompted again for an application you just said "allow" to.
Being prompted (with an explanation why) when launching an app that needs admin access is enough, I don't need a prompt on every file operation (exaggeration, but sometimes it seems almost that frequent).
My favorite is allowing an app through the firewall. I get one prompt to allow, then another to allow me to allow, then another to actually allow...
I will second that. The one time I was in front of a judge, I was clearly guilty and pled so. You'd have thought I shot her dog from her reaction. I still feel I was penalized for "doing the right thing" and not tying the legal system up for an additional year. Apparently in this country admitting your crimes is right up there with committing them...
How is this different from OEM installs of windows? Every preinstall I have seen sucks ass. Crapware, trials, misleading ads, 32bit software on 64 bit hardware. Why is it that people are so willing to put up with absolute dog slow performance on PC's they just bought? Why is there even a market for best buy's "optimization" service (Only $129.99!)?
I say on first boot there is a video explaining what the differences are and how to get stuff done in whatever distro is on there. Play up the performance and security angle. And for the love of all that is holy, don't charge more for the linux version.
The Lazy would just sit there in their Rascal and squeal for a "STOCKBOY!" to get it down for them. If we really want to give them a miss, set up the display in the organic produce section.
Because when I was learning to play guitar, I never once covered anything.
Come on, of course the first impulse is to imitate, how else does one learn? And to be fair those hobbies you list all belong to Nerds. When a geek writes, it's in codes that spell naughty words on the calculator. When they play music, it's through the most awe inspiring audio system known to man EQ'd to perfection. Give them a video camera and their first thought will be to recreate an episode of Star Trek:TNG
Rent a blu-ray from blockbuster: $3.80 (5 or 7 days, unlimited viewing)
Rent an HD movie from the sony store: $5.99 (2 week "rental", but the second you press play you have the "24" clock counting down until the fucker explodes) + agonizing ~7GB download that counts towards my "new" cap (thanks comcast).
If my net connection was in the Multi MB/sec range with no cap, and the downloads cost $3.99, I might pay the extra $0.19...
I know I won't ever "buy" any media that is strictly associated with a piece of hardware. What happens when my ps3 dies and I don't bother to replace it? Although, give me the opportunity to buy the dvd/cd/bd/whatever using the store, download the digital copy immediately and ship the physical disc the next day...
Nah, they'd add a $24.99 shipping and handling fee on the disc.

Right, but it's what the other 95.87% live by. Well, more like the other 5.87%. The remaining 90% live by "It didn't crash IE 6" and call it good.

Fixed that for you.

On another note, you call $999 an "aggressive price point?"
And where's my new sanely-priced mini? Come on, keep the current specs and drop it to $300-$400.

Wow. What a difference two years makes...

I really hope things have changed.

Holy Crap!
Why do I have the sealab theme running through my head...
Billions already collected from risky financing, and now billions more collected to "bail out". Yeah, those guys are morons.
