    i686 is Pentium Pro not Pentium MMMX. Try running compiling something -march=i686 with gcc and running it on a Pentium MMX.
    Pentium MMX is i586 + MMX
    Pentium Pro is i686
    Pentium II is i686 + MMX

    I'm pretty sure gnome had task bar grouping before windows did, windows also doesn't have the ability to "shade" (roll-up) windows without third party add ons and X11 had skinnable window managers far before windows supported theming.

    Mozilla is under an MPL/LGPL/GPL tri-license. The only parts of it that aren't are the firefox logos (see my sig), I recommend using scragz public domain logos instead.

    I'll prbably get modded down for this but to me file sharing doesn't seem so bad. It was the engineers that created the technology for conventional IP distribution (records, cds, tapes, etc) that the artists and execs made millions off of and it doesn't seem so bad that the engineers score a free copy of something every once in a while.

    No it doesn't it could be released under a more liberal license that is GPL compatible.

    You can always remove the GPL code, this situation has happened before.

    Plenty of Red Hat programmers make money off of GPL code and so does Red Hat, and that's just one example.

    Where are these 24 mozilla varients, and only count varients based on licensing issues, it's nto fair to count FF/TB/Camino/Galeon/Epiphany those were based on different design goals. And 12 libpng versions??? I know of the offical version what other ones are their, and do they really stem from GPL issues. Furthermore libpng is licenced as-is. I don't know what else you want from them. Would you not only like to use someone elses code for your own purposes not to their benifit and have them pay big bucks for using it. what do you want from them.

Before the recent end of the one party south there were both liberal and conservative democrats from the south, and congress was often controlled by a conservative coalition of southern democrats and northern republicans

    Using -O4 is silly, all -O's greater than or equal to three have the same effect but future gcc releases my add an -O4 that includes more dangerous flags and breaks things. No one should use -O4 until his compiler actually suppoerts -O4. I learned about the non-existanxe of the mythacal -O4 from gentoo.

    And Outlook runs on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windoes XP, probably Windows for Workgroups with win32s and some tweaking, it must be cross platform too.

    What's the procedure for updating third party gdi installations?

    And at a fundamental issue, why does my system need multiple copies of this gdiplus library? Isn't the whole purpose of DSOs to avoid needing multiple copies?

    Some of these third-parties are third parties within microsft. For instance, Microsoft Research ships a vulnerable gdiplus dll with WWMX. I was not aware of this until using this tool.

    ldd searches for dynamic dependancies, hence no need for a new packages. Mozilla's gdk_pixbuf will be updated by the updated gdk_pixbuf containg package.

    Mozilla uses gdk-pixbuf via gtk to draw ui widgets, it uses libpr0n to render graphics in web pages. libpr0n runs on all platfors mozilla targets, gdk-pixbuf is a solution for gtk+ widget integration on X11.

    I would reccomend integrating the miniT extension. It's super small and makes tabbed browsing usable.

    Well KWin is short for K-Window Manager and being a window manager, should be transparent to the user anyway. Juk is short for Jukebox. They are really pretty intuive except for Kapote (Instant Messanging).

    Outlook may or may not be a good groupware client but I have yet to find anything all that exciting about it's e-mail capabilities. Personally I don't like it and try to use more e-mail-centric apps.

    Again you are thinking horizontal. They are creating vendor lockout on their music player which has competitors to favor their music sotre which has competitors.

    Just because there are other competitors doesn't mean you have to do buisness with them you are free to continue buying from Apple.

    Right now if Apple raises their prices on Music that comes on non-standard CDs customers have no recourse.

    Apple doesn't have a horizontal monopoly but iTMS + iPod could be considered a vertical monopoly (also known as vertical integration). It's kind of like if Ford bought an oil company and then stipulated that all new Ford Cars could only use free gasoline or ford gasoline, and Ford gasoline could only be used in Ford approved engines. They wouldn't have a monopoly on cars or gasoline but they would be unfairly leveraging a vertical monopoly.
