Another problem is that most companies only pay for 1 Anti-Virus Program but that leaves their computers vulnerable to anything that particular piece of software doesn't catch.
I work corporate IT and I periodically sit down at each machine and run 3 or 4 virus scans in addition to the one installed on every workstation, but this is a lot of effort. Infections slip by our real-time scan all the time.
Why is the Wii controller even mentioned in this freakin' story? The kid shot themselves with a loaded gun
Agreed. 3 years ago the story would have been "Child shoots self with gun because his culture is obsessed with firearms. Initial testing shows that the boy was trying to "be cool" and "kill some bad guys." "
The author acknowledges that this test is barely scientific, but I'm left wondering why he didn't disclose which phone he actually uses day-to-day. The muscle memory he's built up using his primary smartphone should give a huge bias to the results.
Not only that, but he is using out of the box phones. The predictive text-correction learns as you use it. The results would be much different for a phone that sees use.
I have a BlackBerry Storm and I swear by RIM's SureType. (That's the one with 2 letters on each soft key)
The predictive text learns as I use the device and I can type incredibly fast on it. Lengthy correspondence is not a problem.
It's just my preference, but now I would never use a physical keyboard. The keys are tiny and fixed, whereas on my BB they are large and can change to match whatever input I happen to need. (letters, caps, symbols, web signs)
This is such a non story. NewEgg made it right, and everyone has moved on. It must be a slow news week in tech.
No, the story is fascinating. It's a mass production fake on a global scale which is extremely newsworthy. NewEgg is an amazing resource and is handling the situation perfectly, no one thinks they're at fault.
Unfortunately there's no one good list of "Trusted" software. Mostly because "trusted" cannot be empirically measured.
Trusted by whom?
Bloatware/Spyware/Crapware are sort of like art, you know it when you see it.
I heard game devs are only incorporating the "third dimension" into games because of the money, not because they want to.
Spoken like someone who has never had to
a) animate + draw 2D sprites doing:
- neutral pose
- run pose
- neutral with weapon
- neutral with shield
- running with weapon
- running with shield
for ALL THE FRAMES. I haven't even m mentioned the other million permutations of the avatar+enemies in states such as poisoned, etc,
OR
b) programmed a graphics engine that has had to light said 2d sprites.
3D "won" because of it scaled up content creation. i.e. The convenience of animating, texturing, lighting and shading blows away the sheer amount of worked needed in 2D content creation. It never was about the money, or quality. It was about betting on a technology that would eventually be "good enough." 2D still looks better because it is easier to make something look good from one angle with fixed lights./rant off...
*slowly pokes head above desk* Is the rant over? I was attempting to make a witty remark about technology and such.... Anyway I like chronosan's post better.
I heard game devs are only incorporating Video Graphics Array output into games because of the money, not because they want to.
But how is Energizer supposed to let you know of amazing offers on things to buy without installing software???
They could do that with software that doesn't LISTEN for INCOMING connections....
Sorry that was a sarcastic comment about how every usb device comes with software to install even when it isn't needed. I've thrown away 10 times as many "install cd's" as I've actually used.
I'm not sure where you're getting 77k hits per second.
FTFA: "The goal was to test an additional 1 million concurrent users on their live site stressing the new video features. The key word here is ‘concurrent’. Not over the course of an hour or day 1 million users concurrently active on the site."
It's always amazing how when someone doesn't know the answer to a question, they just claim the asker is completely wrong.
e.g. Question: "How can I do 'X' in Windows?"
Answer: "Switch to Linux."
Thanks for helping so much.

There! My new text-invisibility-cloak nearly perfectly conceals posts with awkward misspellings!
I hope it sees enough years to warrant 4 service packs.
MSE is pretty great on my laptop. Only 1GB RAM under Windows 7 and I haven't noticed any performance hit.
Is the notion of inflation new to you?
I'm just saying that the cost of the ticket is the primary reason me and the people I know do not go to the movies anymore.
Theaters have been dropping in popularity as DVD sales go up and home theater systems get better -- 3D is trying to pull viewers back to the theater.
Theaters have been dropping in popularity due to ridiculous prices.
I used to see at least 1 movie a month, but when 2 tickets and a soda costs $30 I pick 1 movie a year to go see.
$12.75 for a movie is outrageous (I live in NYC) but at $15 I'll just stay home.
It's not the piracy that's killing movies, its the prices.
Ha ha! DRESS rehearsal! (Phil Ken Sebben)

Omg I just skimmed the summary and thought I read "Professor Jack Thompson". I almost fell out of my chair.
"Warning: Controller is to be HELD and NOT THROWN! Do not chuck, toss, lob, or pitch device at any person or object!"
Whew! That was a close one! Thanks Annoying Warning Because Someone Did Something Stupid And Sued! What would I do without you?

It would be interesting to see a James Bond like movie in space setting
My guess is you're pretty young because the 11th James Bond film was Moonraker, which sent Bond into space.

Just my two cents.

For those needing help explaining that kind of speed to layperson friends, I recommend a handy Guide to Understanding TV Metrics

He's been in office THREE MONTHS and he's not only got a handle on this, but is proclaiming that nothing is going on. WTF?
Are you suggesting Obama had never been on the internet before he became President?
I definitely agree. I make sure my house and car are locked and secure but I wouldn't say that I am waging a war against burglary.
