I can't imagine ever running at 800x600 again. My 15" TFT runs at 1024x768 because it doesn't allow me to run in a higher resolution. My 17" CRT on the other hand is running at 1280x1024. I just like to have lots of different windows opened at the same time
Everybody that ever saw pictures of themselves taken after spending an evening drinking in a pub knows this forms a great danger. The last thing you want to see is proof afterwards
I guess you can develop as much copy-protections as you wish, it just won't help. As long as you can hear music you should be able to grab is. If the method isn't digital, it's analog. Just plug a cord from the headphone-outlet to the mic-inlet from your soundcard and it will do the trick most of the time.
Google is one of the finest search-engines around but I use several different search-engines quit often. There's Kartoo that has great looks and vivisimo that has the abillity to group results.
Allthough it sounds realy neat to have one gadget combining the functions of a PDA, a cellphone and who knows what I see some major disadvantages. I for one like to check my calender while on the phone trying to plan something. Integrating the things doesn't make that a lot easier.
On the other hand I got a chance to play with one a short while and it's allmost the ultimate gadget. If it would just run linux I would have bought it instantly;-)
I'm a little confused by this step. Do they really think file sharing has anything to do with the DDoS attacks? Just who do they think DDoS-ed them all the time. My guess it's the kiddies that love file-sharing.
I'm not saying you should facilitate them but by pissing 'm off there's no way the DDoS attacks will stop. Ignoring just might be the way to go. But then again, that's just my 2 cents
I surely see some potential in the idea but what about standards. Allthough it's GPL-ed the standards aren't adopted by any organisation like IETF, OASIS or W3C. If one of these organisations would see the potential for this it would make things a lot easier. You would get rid of plug-ins, extentions etc. and all browsers as well as servers would support it.
In fact I'm pretty astonished none of these organisations has ever picked up P2P.
Once my manager came in with the buzzword eXtreme Programming. I read a couple of articles, I tried it but what a disaster. I just can't stand other people nozing around in my half completed code, the extreme attention to testing and the team-spirit you ought to have. Needless to say the experiment failed and things went back to normal:-)
Well it looks like lots of enthousiasts out there have started the download immediately. The site is pretty slow:-( I guess I'll just wait a while untill the first storm is over
Mod me down for being off-topic but the subject allmost scared me to death. For a little moment I thought she was going to defend IP for big companies. Reading a complete news.com article has seldom been such a comfort:-)
This sure would be the next step to get a PC-system in the living room that doesn't produce too much noise, doesn't look too bad and is multi-purpose. Regular PC's often don't have looks that kill and make quit a bit of noise.
This might be the next step but it isn't a big one. Having the right priviliges one can be tracked down allready. When I look at my daily routines it's quit easy I think
* In the morning I check my mail (IP logged by ISP of course)
* I drive to work in my car equiped with a GPS-device. (could the lease-company follow me?)
* On the way I stop at the ATM to get me some cash for the day. (The bank should be able to trace this)
* At work I log on to the corporate network
* During the day I have a couple of phonecalls with my cellular phone (hello telco!)
* I drive back home again (hello again lease-company)
* Coming home I order some food (again I leave my name, number etc.)
* Spend the evening surfing around (IP logged everywhere)
And let him benefit from his deeds? In the future people having some command line skills could be very hard to find. Letting him get familliar with DOS or any other command line tool will make his future a rich and famous one. I thought they wanted to punish them?
I've switched to linux on the desktop some time ago and the only thing annoying me once and a while is the amount of WMP-streams (dutch radio for example) out there. If there's a way to view / listen to them I would consider it. After all I've used proprietary software in the past, I'm still using it sometimes and I don't want to beat RMS in GNU-evangelism;-)
It's not just a question of understanding and be able to foresee consequences. It's also a question of ethics. It might be some kind of pavlov-reaction but allways when reading these kind of articles I start humming a motorhead-song. Just 'cause you got the power that don't mean you got the right
Wow thanks. You took the words right out of my mouth. To be even more informative some other facts about Holland * We are called The Netherlands * We don't wear wooden shoes * Not everybody is a farmer growing tulips * Not everybody is stoned all day * Not every town has a redlight district
And last but not least: We're a country of our own, we're not Danes, nor Belgians or Germans!
For what it's worth I think it would be quit arrogant to even think we're alone in this universe we ourselves hardly know. The universe is simply too huge for us te imagine. Allthough I'm very sceptic about foreign visits it just might be possible. On the other hand would I want to visit a planet ruled by violence, envy and aggression. If they're smart they'll leave us alone
This is exactly what I was wondering about. I use both features once and a while and I'm quit satisfied with them. The only reason not to release them to the public I could think of is fear. On the other hand, if this mucht people allready use 'm why hesitate?
Indeed lots of games are banned in Germany. Another option is to substitute blood for some green substance (only aliens could have green blood).

P2P networks are here and they're here to stay

Mein Gott, der Roboter sieht ja zum kotzen aus
;-)
Well my german isn't too good but what this poster is trying to tell us is: Boy this thing looks shitty
just being helpfull

Do you realize how lame your life is ?
Yes I'm fully aware of that. Thanks for asking though
Can't you cook yourself ?
Yes but sometimes I choose not to do so
Do you have to drive to work ?No, I could use public transport but that would increase traveling time quit a bit
Can't you spend your evening in a theater ?
I could but every night would be quit a costly hobby
Don't you have a significant other IRL ?
No!

And just how anonymous am I?
The article doesn't state is was a bluetooth connection. 802.11b uses the same frequnecy. My bet would be they used this to get this far.

Well this method sure beats searching whois databases for domains registered by someone geographically near to you.

Well Holland is part of The Netherlands. Out of 11 states only 2 are Holland. I am from Holland by the way so no I'm not a Limburger

This sure would explain the growing amount of homeless people with laptops occupying the benches around the hotel
