That's exactly what the dashpc is. It's 6.4" touchscreen, linux, Xfree86, wireless keyboard, mp3s, dvds, etc.
The hard drive doesn't crash and I don't even get any data errors on it. It's mounted sideways, so that's probably why. Worst case scenario, the heads just need to realign.
I just added a wireless nic to my car. My linux box is fully booted before I pull out of the garage. Before, I've gone out of range, the carpc has downloaded the latest slashdot headlines, weather, and traffic. Here is a link to the car.
Damn SD effect... oh well; looks like I'll have to upgrade my web host. I can boot into X in about 30 secs. My center console display doesn't turn on until after the system is booted so for all intents and purposes it doesn't exist (to the user) until it's ready to be used. When i remove the key or turn the car off, it turns the display off immediately and then shuts the computer down (via perl!). Here is a mini-mirror. Parallax did a feature on my car and they have a mini write-up (the pictures are very old). The last picture is the most accurate of the ones they have. Until I get more bandwidth my site will be down (unless someone can mirror my original - contact me!).
...in a few weeks. Here is a link with pictures. It features in dash 6.4" LCD touchscreen, DVD, GPS (via VMware), MP3s, 5" LCD's in the headrests, integrated PSOne, etc... It currently runs Gnome. See the pictures on the page. It's a homebrew project costing much less than emPeg.
I just registered a few. If they are legit and will resolve in all browsers, I just did some fun stuff... otherwise, I just blew some serious cash. Can anyone comment on the integrity of these servers???
Our company has a notice up that specifically rejects passport users and directs them to a link that demonstrates the security flaws in it. The link is below on the info page for those intersted.
No way. Java is more prevalent than it has been ever before; cell phones, pagers and now cars rely on it more than ever. Java isn't going anywhere, you silly troll.
Like this one. They won't allow users to use Passport authentication to buy thier goods, and they posted info about why. What better way to prevent users from using MSPassport, than to send consumers mixed signals about being able to use it.
I saw the screening for that here in Atlanta, GA. I thought it was okay at best. But it did have some funny content and when you look at some of the underlying messages about where society is heading...
I'm getting ready to add a few more pics to the site in about 30 seconds... best part is that it run linux. I'm going to open the code for it on sourceforge when I get it cleaned up a bit. the touchscreen interface uses TCL/TK right now, but i may move to something else when I get some time. Now if only I could upload my order to Wendy's, and debit my account, before I pull up at the window...
The laws in Florida and Georgia are grey about TV's. My Jetta has all the features of this guys car and then some (it runs Linux), yet I've never had any legal trouble. I actually got out of one speeding ticket because FLA Highway Patrol thought it was cool because we both had computers in our cars. Anyway, I agree it's a grey area, but it's not illegal, especially when you minimize the dvd and put the Navigation screen on top. hehe.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news my friend, but the landscape of the world is changing. The world is becoming one of have's vs have nots. You need to decide where you want to be. If you can't beat em, join em. At least temorarily until you find a better solution.
I am currently enrolled in the Linuxgruven class. I have my first test on monday. I've been using Linux for about 2 years, and I've actually learned a _lot_ from this class. The one thing that separates the linuxgruven cert. from the sair ones is that they _require_ hands on testing. Meaning if you can't perform simple tasks (both networking and sys admin) you shouldn't be working or have any cert. period. LG is preventing "paper LCA's". if M$ would've done this their cert would be worth much more. Now an MCSE isn't worth squat because it's an oblsolete technology for one, and 2 you can find the answers to the MCSE online! I used to work for a "paper" CNA and she'd didn't know squat! I did all the work and got paid one_third of what she did. Just because she had that fscking paper! I decided not to stay at that job for a few years until I went someplace in the company thru normal channels. so I left... which put me in with linuxgruven. The thing you all seem to be overlooking is that the pay STARTS at 45k. I was offered a position making almost double because I have 2 years of hardcore linux experience. maybe i'm biased because I'm going to be working for them, but so far it's legit, and I get my money back after 1 year of service. they do that because LCA's are in such short supply right now they are worth a lot!!! i think they're trying to prevent people from using them to get a cert and then jumping ship to another company (because they would lose the $2500). lg reimburses you after 1 year of service for the class/cert. anyway, i've used linux for years and the class is difficult, yes. I think that makes my cert. look better. regardless, of the company you go through, a cert definately makes a difference...
cheers,
cb
and my userid isn't in series, i've been reading slashdot for a while...
My Jetta is Linux powered and has +many+ more pimp features than that dodge. But it's fun to see where the industry is going. My Jetta has DVD, GPS, HUD, Mp3s, Quake, LCDs in the headrests, etc. Check it out at: http://juno.ath.cx/cbergeron/mp3jetta/
Enjoy!
it's relatively easy to set up a machine to be a ppp dialup server so that the xterm box "thinks it calling" an isp; whereas it's actually just using a twisted pair telco line into a linux ppp server. the linux ppp server is using isdn (or other highspeed) to connect to the net. not terribly difficult.
Only people that think the test is indicative of "being educated" would post such an insubstantial arguement. You're a perfect case in point jackass. You aparently went to college, yet you know not how to think for yourself. People that think for themselves don't think college is the "final word" on being intelligent. Use the brain that going to college gave you if you think it's that imperative.
I get ethernet connectivity once in a while in the Linux Car. There's some details in the news section of the page.
Enjoy.

It would be quite interesting. I should know. I've done it.
Tell me what you think.

Luckily I can disable the maximal count!!!

Did I waste my dinero?
Nimda is the word: Admin backwards? Just an observation.

you have to click on the info link. I should've mentioned that.
Disclaimer: I own the company.

At long last! She can cook my dinner with it and then when we're done I can rub it all over her and have mad kinky sex with her.
Thanks EBAY!

I'd be happy...!
Hhmmm, and all I could think of using my GPS for was to upload my cars coordinates every minute so I can find it if it ever gets stolen.
Check it out at the link below:
What's the difference between decoding and sequencing?
I guess I'm a little naive on the genome thing... but the way quantum computing is going, I better brush up on it, eh?
For mine I wrote a script that pulls my bank account info, parses it and puts my net worth into an evironment var. Thus, my prompt looks like so:

nifty eh?
