Consider that there are few games for Linux and there were even fewer at that time. It probably is a bit of a hyperbole (and I don't think there is any problem with that), but I can see how someone would have their heart broken over that. Maybe they use only Linux normally, so it means they cannot even play?
No flamewar here. In this discussing a VIm cultist can agree with an Emacs brother. Better a good editor, than an IDE per language. I lose productivity when I try to use Eclipse simply because it doesn't have the same tools I already know from VIm, and it is not worth to me to learn it deeply, as I usually work combining different languages.
Parent has a certain point. Apple has no real obligation to pay. If one really wants a return, they should either charge for it, or maybe use a license that includes a return, e.g. GPLv2 with return of code. Unfortunately GPLv3 scared most serious users, Apple included.
I don't know him, but I use usually git while colleagues would rather use mercurial, bazaar or fossil. Basically, any distributed version control system. I prefer git because it has more features and I want to learn how to best use them. Before that I used fossil because it was simple and all data was stored in a single file (SQLite database), but some small annoyances and bug drove me off. Bazaar I used a bit after inheriting a project, but it lacked features to me, mostly easy branching. Mercurial I have never used.
If she does, I would suggest Linux Mint, as it will have a reasonably familiar interface (icons, start menu) and is also an acceptable system. Keep in mind that you will have to keep adjusting it to her tastes, for example, editing menus or creating icons for her. If you are familiar with another systems (say, Unity), you might try that. As you will have to give her support, it's very important that you are familiar
And pray she doesn't want to stay with Windows. My mother learned to use Windows 8 out of spite enough so she doesn't need Linux, but not enough so she can keep her own computer clean (by the way, I need to go back there check how is the new antivirus working, does anybody have good recomendations?).
In my experience, Powerpoint users focus more on effects than on content. I once saw someone advocating the use of a kind of "giant notebook" for drawing the slides live, with the idea that it would foster interaction and keep the audience interested. As someone that usually sleeps during Powerpoint presentations this idea sounds better, although I don't really think it would help unless the presenter worked for it.
Another presentation program that I feel that works too much on effect is Prezi. I often see presentations on it so full of movement and loops that I think some risk movement sickness from that. And the delay to change slides is a pain when the presentation has ended and someone asks to see that third slide from the beginning.
I think it was more sheep-herding. Although I remember more from the references on Small Gods. It said that that sheep are docile and easily led, while goats aren't. If Ohm (The One and True God) had first spoken to a goat herder instead of a shepherd things might have gone very differently.

Why are changing ******* to *******?
Year of the linux destroyer?
So you believe in security through obscurity, right?

African, of course. Didn't you read TFA? Oh, who I'm kidding, of course not.
Maybe the building is old enought to have been projected with power, but no one thought about the possibility of adding more cords?
Are you talking about the Return of the Kirk?

I think you mean ed.
I though he was talking about Bitcoins users :P
Let's us get this straight:
Web Magna Carta
That's what the CIA wants the commoners to think.

And nothing of value was lost.

The first link does have the Guru meditation if you disable Javascript.
The problem is that Pipedot should be called Pipecomma. They didn't distance themselves enough from Slashdot.
Did Betteridge's Law break?
I assume 4/ was ???
Sid Meier's Civilization IV (Linux)
Where can I have this? I'm ready to kill anyone, just say the name.
Last I checked, Hawken has more in common with Call of Duty than Mechwarrior. Not to say it's a bad game, but it feels different. Speedier, perhaps.
And what about their dog?
Another advantage for me, is that I often find there games that I don't find on shops around here.
