    Imagine these first generation Self aware AIs were mass produces and sold cheaply. I imagine thew will probley have only rudimentary emotions(benovolent not being one ot them). People pay preimun prices for luxary items like leather and CD Player not so all their AIs goe the optional compassion upgrade. I think Star Trek got it right with Lor and Data. Perhaps if our brloved capitolist socity resists the urge to capitolize on AIs until we get "it right" things will work out but I doubt it.

    I stressed about sex all through High School. I think If I was getting some I would have been more receptive to the advice "Just be yourself".

    That and, "Don't worry about getting in trouble, Knock out the next guy who makes fun of your name. Show some back bone, life will be much easier."

    I used to watch the incoming requests on the GNUtella network(Limewire), when I saw what looked what sounded like a new artest I would do a search to see what they have to offer. Now I use Shareaza that only has a packet dump feature thats too hard on the eyes th catch somthing promising.(hint hint) It would also be cool if it compiled satistics on the incoming requests and hits.

    I think Once we start seeing birth defects in the subject just use gene tharapy to correct the problem. We'll have an ofspring with DNA containing fewer impurities adding to the diversity of the gene pool.

    In my opnion playing god is just fine as long as you play by his rules. Bringing back an animal that we made the mistake of wiping out in the first place is OK, as it is our way of correcting mistakes of the past. Genetic engineering for the sake of vanity and other sinful motives would not be OK.

    Missle defence shield is not for use against Superpowers with multiple launch capabilities. That the thing that bugs me if bush would make more of a point that missle defence is for all mankind. And if SDI is not going to protect everyone it should be scrapped. Only morons and cowards would launch ICBMs, its thoes people we need be defended from.

    What if we raised a few humans in space in simulated Mars gravity? Bone Loss wouldn't be a problem because the body would be optimised for Martian gravity. I also beleve these humans would be considerably taller. Much foresight woould have to be used in the construction of their craft.

    No break down of calcium structures because their bones would be built from the ground up to meet their needs at that gravity. As opposed to to earth astronauts who experence a break down until excess is depleted to balance with necessity and environment.

    Maby this could be an application for gene therapy.

    Only sad thing would be that they could never come "home". They would most certinally die in earth gravity. =(

    Excellent book by clark. Great example of one of the bonuses to cloning. Cloning yourself would be an excllent way to create peers and family that think so much alike that very little needs to be said to fully communicate.

    SCSI1 Interface. May not excede Full height drive bay dimentions. Must accept one to eight 512MB DIMMs. Drive needs to be OS/BIOS transparent. Parts list, alternative IC list, Schemitics, any source code, PCB layout, and working prototype must be submited to judgeing body.

    Cash will be held by Slashdot until winner is chosen by a pannel comprised inpart by Slashdot admins.
