    ...that the metal connections between individual components would not be fast enough.

    I only wonder how long before this sort of technology makes its way to the consumer market, if only for show. Of course I can't see a use for an exascale databus on the mobo anytime soon.

    Probably a little of both. They're against govt. regulation and pro business. Of course this will hinder potential profits for telecoms, but they don't have the foresight to see the damaging effect this will have on any new Internet businesses in the future. And when they have to stand-up for their actions the inevitable answer will be

    "Well, the American people don't want government regulation and I am required to abide by their wishes instead of actually making a sensible decision. Besides, these friendly telecom funded studies have informed me of the dangers to our fragile economy that this new regulation will surely impose on the hard-working middle class American people.

    According to this guy it uses the same APIs as the Windows phone developer tools do.

    It doesn't matter what you call it if you can circumvent the "app store" jail and load applications directly.

    I wouldn't characterize Wikileaks quite that way. Assange isn't obtaining info himself. He is merely providing a safe haven for people who want to "leak documents/blow whistles" and providing a means to publish that information. It only takes one person with more access than they need to obtain this sort of information

    north korea kills its citizens. it doesnt pretend to be doing it for freedom. china executes journalists. it doesnt say its doing it for freedom. they are being repressive and brutal, bluntly, and flat out. they are not LYING about it.

    NK and China don't have to lie about executing dissidents for the freedom of the populace because that is never their reason for doing so. They execute their opponents because they claim it preserves their society and ideological way of life. Under this lens the US is doing the exact same thing.

    As a Mac user, I don't have to deal with Microsoft's stuff, and I haven't really noticed anything shady from Apple (maybe because my iTunes was grandfathered in?) but the fact that Google forces me to install a Google uploader daemon as part of Google Earth means I won't upgrade the software, and haven't for the past few years. Things like this need to be optional - don't make us choose between an unhappy version of software or none at all.

    Any slightly savvy user can just disable any unwanted processes associated with installed software, i.e. googleupdater, applemobiledeviceservice, etc. Then just start them when you want an update or whatever it is you need to do.

    Popular for aircraft carriers. Maybe for cargo ships too? How is the waste dealt with in an aircraft carrier. How do aircraft carriers and submarines avoid unplanned criticality excursions?

    Can't go there. There's no good way to ensure that waste stays in the right hands. Just look at all the ships that get hijacked off the Somali coast.

    One option is to impose a tarriff on goods shipped on boats that don't meet regulations. Customers could also be proactive and buy things that were manufactured in their own continent, if not their own country/state.

    Dogs can pick up cues from humans and are extremely social animals.

    Cats OTOH are just freeloading parasites. Occasionally they purr and rub against you to mark their territory.

    I've never met a cat that could respond to its name, let alone do tasks as complex as dogs.

    There's a reason you don't have "helper cats" for the blind.

    I have nothing but bad things to say about their sound hardware (don't know the specific ones off the top of my head)

    I'll list some issues...

    • Bad software/user interface
    • Front panel detection stopped working
      • Incorrectly thought things were plugged into different jacks
    • Drivers that don't work well with many games
    • Bad digital out quality
      • crackly & popping noise when going on and off
      • No mini-stereo jack digital output. Forced to use mobo attachment which may be causing EMI (not sure if this is a mobo manufacturer issue)

    Seriously. Just spend the extra $50 on a half-decent dedicated card. You'll be glad you did...or you can just wait until you're fed-up with Realtek.

    It's certainly the right idea if standards are all they're pushing. But I agree, the DHS shouldn't be involved in this. I can't see why they are in the first place other than someone used the word "terrorist".
