Well, it makes sense that a government entity wants more money but the logic of a sales tax escapes me. If I'm buying something, the person who is taking my money is making income and therefore paying taxes on it. So a sales tax is a tax paid by the buyer for the privilege of being allowed to buy something? Makes no sense.
Every day in the business world, people are "reassigned" because they are not on-board with the boss. I've seen more than a few upper level managers get "promoted" because they voiced displeasure about the direction the company was taking. This is the way the world works.
Didn't Thor Heyerdahl show that ancient people could have crossed the ocean with their level of technology? I think it's entirely possible that the Egyptians could have made the trip and influenced the technology of the New World.
It would be interesting if life in the Universe was similar enough because planets that bear life are "seeded" in such a way. Frightening, too. That means it's possible that humans might be susceptible to microbes found on other planets.
At least in the U.S. it is -- not sure about the free speech laws of other countries. These videos are clearly parodies and riffs on the original. In no way are the people who are creating these things portraying themselves as the director of Downfall or the producer of that film. Is the question that they are using a too large portion of it for the parody?
Sadly, I don't doubt this at all. The entertainment industry has invested heavily in the Democratic Party hoping for support for their draconian wishlist. We're moving in the wrong direction here especially when it comes to the concept of fair-use and copyrights. The notion of the public domain is becoming extinct in practice as perpetual copyrights are put into place for corporations that hoard them.
Not just Microsoft but every American company that ships manufacturing jobs overseas precisely because they know that people making slave wages put more money in the pockets of stockholders, board members and the CEO. The drive towards maximization of profits is a threat to the future of corporations because it replaces planning with obsession about the "now".
And even enjoyable in a somewhat psychedelic sort of way but Hollywood never quite seems to get it. I've always thought of Dick as a cross between Vonnegut and Bradbury with a tiny bit of Hunter S. Thompson thrown in. Charlie Kaufman could probably write a good script for a Phil Dick movie - he'd get it.
I remember the good old days when I was able to plug my cable box directly into my TiVo and have the latter control the former. Then RCN got wise and provided their own DVR and took the capability I loved away. IR emitters have never worked reliably for me no matter how many times I've tried to set it up. Somewhere there is a company that actually thinks about its customers -- I think.
Teaching kids safe sex is crucial but all this person sees is "sexualization"? It doesn't make me question sex-ed, it makes me question what's in the mind of this D.A.
Or is it something else? The NY Times, regardless of the hype of it being a "liberal" (you can stop LOLing now) paper, has always ever been tied to the ruling class whether in the U.S. or abroad. I'm sure of my opinion that if this had gone to them first, the Times would have contacted the Pentagon first and been only too glad to bury the story at their behest. Thank goodness for organizations like Wikileaks.
No evidence. No proof. They don't exist and never did. That doesn't mean there isn't life on other planets, just that as far as we know about the laws of physics, it would take quite a long time and a real effort on the part of any society to want to do it.
You'd think Jordanians would be a tad more modern.
Especially when an emotional response is evoked. The fact is that the person viewing/hearing/perceiving the art is as important as the art itself. If a person can hear Mozart and think it's beautiful and another person hears the same thing and thinks it's ugly -- who is right? How can they both be right? But they are.
Considering that they are not manufacturing anything nor paying for shipping, warehouses (including workers), etcetera. If I thought the authors were getting more out of it then I might not bristle as much but I have no illusion that anyone but the publisher is benefiting from the price hike. As long as there are libraries, if won't be a problem.
As an aside, I wonder how long it will take before publishers challenge libraries in court?

A ready-built entry into the market. Just dump the Palm OS, bring in Android and there you have it.
I should have resisted. I'm sorry.
I end up liking Bill Gates that much more.
I don't care what religion it is, if I am not a follower of that religion, I am not subject to its rules. Period.

"National security"? Please. This is about the fact that someone exposed the fact that they are wasting money in a highly incompetent manner.

That should send a message to the next one.

Could not be more obnoxious sounding. Only hipsters love hipsters because they often don't see how truly annoying they are.
