The debate in Utah began four years ago when an American Fork company, Sunset Video, found a profitable business in clipping a nude scene from hundreds of video copies of "Titanic" brought to them by owners.
All the artistic crap aside, Cooldge and her cronnies are just out for the cash. Between the editied videos which is minor and the "shielding" which is where the big bucks will be, there is a ton o'cash to be made over the next 10-15 years. Think baby boomers and thier teenage children.
Now if Collidge can get a few bucks from every unit shielding sold or a few extra bucks from theaters that show a modifed version then she is on to something.
Are they gong to try to eliminate the FFWD button from all VCR/DVD units? It's pretty much the same thing. Someone is just paying someone else to push the friggin button for them.
If my boss thinks I've earned a bonus for a job well done do you think a union will allow it? If I consistently out perform the guy with seniority will I get the promotion?
Unions suck the life out of hard working individuals and reward mediocrity.
Could you image! Buy your Ford Fiesta and only the dealer can replace the tires or upgrade any components and they reserve the right to destroy the thing (which effectivly means degrading it to a state worse than it came from the factory, if that's possible) if they suspect you have been tampering with it in any way.......What part of Freedom is becoming so hard to understand?
Spoken like a true childless sole. Your kids will listen to you as well as you listened to your parents. Which ought to scare most. My mom told me that drugs and drinking were not good for me, but that only means that I wored harder at making sure she never found out.
If I had access to the type of things my kids have access to now, I'd never have left the house or Library.
This whole argument puts way to much stock in the internet for research anyway. Proper research for any project still belongs in the library but with books. Most web sites can only be written off and heasay and inuento, definetly not as a valid resource for any serious research.
I am speaking as a father of 2 boys (19,14) and 2 girls (18, 13), all honor students. I am a proud user of NetNanny and would love to say I can fully trust my kids but when they are constantly bombarded with graphic material from all sorts of media it is getting close to being an impossible task for any one parent.
Why is it that every song, movie, sitcom has to be filled with foul language or sexually explicit topics. What was so wrong with "I love Lucy"? People watched and people liked.
Well, I'm done ranting. Think I'll move my familie to the bush this weekend.
Maybe they are really working together. Switching to MS marketing methods. The next step is obvious....only Sony Burners will be able to copy Sony CD's.
Left Alberta in 1999. My rebuttal:
"if you live in Alberta you won't pay more than 38% in taxes no matter how much you earn."
Dollar for dollar I earn the same in US as I did in Edm. Even at 38% I'd still be paying more than double.
"And look at what you get - space, a clean environment, safety, cheap living expenses, etc."
Spcae and clean environment I'll give you. The rest including safety you lose. I am raising a family of 6 and the cost of living is much cheaper here. Groceries cut by 33%, clothing cut by 50%+, health insurance up by 7% but far superior service, auto costs down by 15% and nobody is going to start taxing my RRSP contributions.
Don't misunderstand me, I am a Canadian through and through but the Canadian myths on American living are frustrating. Both countries have issues but if you can figure out how to earn a living, raise a family and actually plan to retire independant of goverenment assistance in any province then all the power to ya.
Please, your taxes are paying for the CRTC. Your taxes will now pay for the ongoing monitoring of rates from Bridgwater, NS to La Pas, MAN. And knowing the efficiencies of gov.ca I am sure they will fly thier reps coast to coast on your tax dollar, first class. But hey their worth it, right?
The best thing the CRTC and the rest of the Provincial and Federal government bodies could do for Canadian business is get the hell out of it. A free market economy (ecomonics 101) benefits everyone.

You just have live in the west with a goverenment spawned in the east to figure out were Canada ends and La Pas is probably to far.
