    I don't see the N900 as backward, quite the contrary it's so advanced even Nokia admits it's possibly not suited for the casual user.

    The phone does have a portrait mode, it can even switch automatically.

    But certain applications like text editors and most web sites in the browser are much better served with the landscape mode and that's what they use.

    The 180g does give you some extras like a real slide out keyboard.

    All together I'm extremely happy with this very reliable and flexible tool.

    Easy, you know the distance and the angle of the lens so you can calculate the diameter.

    You also know the angle of the sun at the time of the photo and measure the lit (or unlit) area below the hole, that'll give you an approximation of the depth.

    Maybe you should have read the rest.

    It does say these dessicants are relatively benign compared to the presently used refrigerants.

    But you are spot on with the rest of your post, proper insulation and appropriate construction techniques would go a long way in limiting the energy consumption of buildings.

    In the mean time we here in N/W Europe we can only hope for weather warm enough to switch off the heating.

    It was when the innocent days of the net were fading and advertising becoming the rule that I quite naturally formed a skill to only notice the interesting parts on a page, the rest turned into a vague blur.

    Your questions indicates you to have a problem with shades of grey in morality.

    Knowingly letting the rapist go ahead is a form of violence by you towards your daughter.

    Providing there are other options like calling the cops or even simply telling your daughter to run it's just as wrong to kill the guy before the crime, you are not God.

    Although there usually is a clear distinction between good and bad there are areas where the right decision takes some intelligence that goes beyond just pulling the trigger.

    The MPEG-LA can claim all they want but in the end it's the local law that rules. Here in The Netherlands (computer) algorithms cannot be patented, period.

    Some misconceptions may be caused by the fact we, as others European countries, have farmed out the registration of patents (octrooien) to the European Patent Office.

    As a commercial entity they have allowed the registration of anything worth a fee but that is well short of being able to legally enforce such a registration in one of the participating countries.

    I thought the Senate is the highest authority (or at least one of them) in the Federation.

    And I can't imaging such a level of authority to be subject to any type of censorship or other meddling in the flow of their information.

    Besides, except what appears as a beach/holiday pic I did not notice any porn on his screen.

    Yes in 2010 net access is just another utility.

    I don't mind paying a small fee to get a sign-in code for their WIFI but it's the daily charges that could buy you a month of domestic broadband that are the problem.

    About the counter on the toilet flush, Ryanair wants to start charging for the use of the toilet on board their flights.

    Or maybe I should say WIFI *should be* like any other service.

    I travel quite a bit and especially in the United Kingdom the hotels are trying to gouge you for internet access but I must say bitterly complaining to the manager and asking if he similarly charges separately for power, water and sanitation often results in a lower priced plan.

    UK hotels that typically try to charge 15 pounds/day but can be brought down to charge 15 pounds per stay.

    Only one bastard thanked me for the idea to put a counter on the toilet flush. :)

    The only reason I can see for them to want your CV in Word is that they want to be able to edit it.

    Otherwise a pdf would suffice.

    It sound like you haven't done any Windows installs for a while...

    No I don't mean stuffing in the OEM image but a real install including finding the drivers and installing them in the right order and such, Linux is the last several years MUCH easier.

    That's why I have a separate boot instance with an old (8.04) and trusted version, they do share via links some parts of /home like Thunderbird and Firefox.

    Yep the N900 is foremost a micro computer and it really shows when hooked up through it's AV connection to a TV screen.

    A projector like on some Nikon camera's would be a nice gimmick.

    just what solution to illegal immigration would you propose? Just what would you do about it, including border security, and existing illegal aliens. Be specific.

    What about real measure against employing illegals?
    Like have the employer do time or fine him at least equal to a years wages per illegal worker.

    Requiring employers to check the ID of their employees does not need to be undue burden.
