    You are full of it, the moderators are funny today not declaring you the troll you seem to be.

    Even when Google took elements of existing work, it is so little we can safely see them as quotes.
    I'm not enough aqainted with the original work to make my own judgement but reading the comments by others that have more knowledge I can only conclude this was not a mere copy and paste job by Google but an interpretation.

    And that's how *isms come into existence.

    It's the sort of contract that stipulates the data remains yours.
    When necessary through a purposely set up proxy.
    Whatever it takes.

    When they can't/ won't guarantee everlasting and exclusive access to YOUR data it shoud, has, to be 'No Deal'.

    And IP law is your friend too.

    What about a bunch of open protocols or API's and the proprietary stuff in the firmware?

    (I don't say it'll be easy to set protocols covering everyone's wishes)

    But personally I don't have any strong feelings against closed source drivers.
    As long as they don't interfere with the OS or other applications.
    Again only a strict protocol could prevent this without opening the source.

    I know a lot of respectable companies have their own rules re. use of a phone while driving.
    Shell allowes only hands free calls but advises against any calls, BP bans all type of radio or telephone use while driving.
    I agree, people can wait for your answer till you are at a stop.

    Another good reason to have you're hourly coffee break :)

    In the nightmare scenario, the outsourcer goes bankrupt, access is cut off, and our confidential data ends up for sale on E-bay. What exactly is the contingency plan for that?

    It's called a Contract.

    Yep, a desktop has far better ventilation for use in bed.

    In my experience a laptop keyboard has a much better wrist support than a regular keyboard.

    During the last ten years you have clearly not used compact fluorescent light.
    In most instances it is indistinguishable from incandescent light except for the power savings it gives.
    8 out of 10 lamps in my home are fluorecent and I enjoy not only the significant savings but as well the exceptional life expectancy of the bulbs.
    The only thing they are not good at is dimming.

    For me anything is better than autosync, I like to be in control.
    Plus the 1GB of my nano cannot possible hold all the stuff I have on my HD's.
    Drag and Drop, access from *any* computer, structure through simple directories, these are all things I miss in the iTunes and iPod.

    The fact the system is limited on formats is an unnecessary restriction, for Apple it would be easy enough to include it in the firmware but using some 3rd. party software I can make the conversions on my PC.

    Anything we do, or don't do, will get criticized, unless we let them all go and wait for another terrorist attack.

    The USofA is criticised for good reason, at least since the end of WWII they have claimed to be the leader of the so called 'Free World'.
    And that leadership comes with some obligations like 'Fair Trial'.

    The detainees at Gitmo don't get that fair trial but are abused instead.

    There are international laws that do allow for special treatment for non-combatant enemies, the US can do so in a regular court.

    Just as the US would have expected from other nations only some 20 years ago...

    Although centralised (i.e. big scale) energy production does achieve the highest efficiency during production it looses most if not all that profit during distribution.

    What is the use of increasing production efficiency from say 90 to 98 % when you loose a typical 20 - 40 % on the overland lines...

    .xxx is *just* another domain, why *only* the US is having significant problems with it is a tell-tale.

    It is no doubt the Religious Simple in the present US governement that are setting this US agenda.
    I cannot ever see a technical or administrative reason to not allow this domain to come into existence.

    As long as ICANN is not disallowing the registration of porn sites at a .com or whatever domain it's up to the market to decide if it's works, the rest of the world could not care less...
