Most countries around the world are not flooded with lawyers like it is here in the U.S.
Ha!
I recently heard that *half* of all legal books published around the world are in German.
The reason being that German (especially tax) law is so complicated.
Even when this story is only half true it would be remarkable.
Of course there is not necessarilly a lawyer for every book:-)
Rediculous or not, fact is that with 2 generations of peace in the area and the big bad Soviet Bear dead Finland is not in need of a large standing army.
This is no different than in other Western European countries except many of them have scrapped conscription for this reason.
To have soldiers trained for less than 12-18 months does not give you a very good army to begin with.
When I was drafted (in The Netherlands) in the early 70's and with the cold war still going on only 3 out of 10 drafted were actually signed up. Al kinds of excuses were given to send someone home, only the most suited (No, not the best:)) were kept to be trained as solder.
Presently even less conscripts are needed so the Finns have gone the way (like for example the Germans) of decreasing the service period below what is actually usefull from a military standpoint and they are still looking for excuses to send people home!
Yet the infliction is real, we all know of companies end institutions blocking port 80 and of people having been fired for internet abuse in the boss's time.
Talking about dropping, with a SD card I recently bought was a little folder claiming it would withstand a acceleration/decelleration of up to 2000G!
That's probably the sledgehammer test.
I'd say the high temp test was in the boiling and washing machine tests.
Contrary to high radiation and strong magnetic fields these are Real Life situations.
People are incredibly ignorant. They allow an autocratic EU state to build, develop, and continually assume that everything will be ok.
I should not reply as you are a Troll.
Yet to a large section of especially the British public you sound credible.
Believe it or not but it is an unholy alliance of the British and French that has till now prevented the European Parliament to get the power a Parliament needs.
Ofcourse all in the name of "Sovereignty" of the National Parliaments/Governements.
But in reality just to keep the European population from setting truly super nationalistic goals through their elected European Parliamentarians.
The powerful Council of Ministers should/could then become like a Second House of Parliament or Senate to reflect on the decisions of the Parliament of all Europeans.
But I'm afraid that as long as the UK with it's presently rediculous press is part of the EU this will not happen, the French governement is tough on this subject but at least the French people could, not being exposed to the British-style gutter press, be convinced to support a European Parliament.
Well, at least that's how TV has been portraying it.
Removing violence from the average US TV show is going to be a sort of decapitation for the industry, the remarkable result could be no life left for them.
But thank God for the Real American Values there is satellite where the FCC has no power!
See guys, that is why we have laws. To enforce punishment when people do bad things. This whole argument is suspect. It is no different than saying that we should not let people walk down the streets with money because it is just giving muggers an opportunity.
The whole "we're giving criminals a chance" argument is invalid in America.
Damn you live in a different world than those likely to be the victim of such schemes!
This is a real world scenario, it has happened and it will happen again.
and the option for Voters to print off a copy for their own records
This is completely unacceptable as it would destroy the secrecy of the ballot, there is no way of guaranteeing that the voter would not be held (by a vigilante etc.) and searched for his receipt.
The idea of an other poster here to have a ticked with a hash that only prooves the validity of the vote, not the kind of vote, might be a sort of solution.
And even that, there have been instances were people were coerced NOT to vote or make an invalid vote, in those cases the criminals behind this scheme would still have a clue about the voter's compliance.
(1) If we're so stupid we can destroy the only planet we live on, I don't see how we're doing the universe a favor by spreading.
When we blow up the Earth is not realy the problem, there are far greater forces than Human stupidity threatening the Earth.
(2) Satisfying an inherent human instinct shouldn't require a multi-hundred-billion-dollar budget. If you have an instinct to explore, check out your city sewer system, or look into the obscure corners of the Mandelbrot Set, or play an online game. All these activities satisfy the brute animal urge to get into new places.
Religious or not, the cost for ancient society to explore the other side of the river or mountain was on their scale (far) greater than the multi-hundred-billion-dollar budget we are spending now, their whole tribe or nation could be in jeopardy when the men did not return from such a trip.
In a flat country like The Netherlands an old rule of thumb for microwave towers is a 50Km distance between two 50m towers.
Your 200ft example is about 60m and 27Km till the horizon is a little over half that 50Km for one tower so the old rule seems to be right.
Nearly three weeks ago our company staffhouse was broken in to and everything including the back ups were stolen.
Luckily I still had some stuff of >3 months old at home.
There are international treaties regulating the free exchange of weather data between National Weather Services.
If one would quit that Nation has a problem getting the ever so important data from the rest of the world.
Besides, wether you pay for the National Service through tax or (probably several) commercial Weather Bureaus by means of subscription, it still needs to be financed.
Assuming you are from the USofA you *do* get to vote for them.
OK, it might by indirect but it's *your* vote for Congress and The President that eventually get's you the Supreme Court's judges.
So next time get registered, go voting and stop moaning!

Clinton had to appologise to his wife.
Bush will have to appologise to the nation (and the world).

That's what snotty managers would like to call it.
I'd rather see "Professialism".
And then there are (high end) consumer grade cameras that focus on what the photographer is looking at in the viewfinder.
Grow up!
By last account most people are born that way (naked), that's how nature intends us to be.
Tho I admit a girl would likely make a nicer ad...

Sure it can ignite.
But first we have to add a whole lot of Oxygen...
In other words; a total waste of time & money.
And *his* is an Oval Office...
What a strange remark!
Just as an add on to the list others have started in this thread:
KNMI for The Netherlands or:
(for the linguistically impaired)
Such National and tax funded institutions don't have to stop commercial weather forecasters:
Meteoconsult

Oh, you mean the UK is not Europe?
Yep, the next sentence proves this guy doesn't have a clue about geography.
the same technology being used for the past several months around the world for all of EMI's releases in those territories
Love to hear what else there is between 'around the world' and 'those territories'.

The article says Base Ball size, just wait for that extra-terestrial to come off the field and starts looking for his ball!
Get some education before you spew nonsense. Depleted Uranium is not particulary radio active but it is acting as a poison when ingested or inhaled.
Yep,>BR> That's why the old chicken wire cage as the Israelies use(d) is probably smarter.
