Microsoft tossed out the idea of coming up with reasonable versions

I was about to write some snarky comment about MS having reasonable version numbers behind the marketing of their OS, reflecting the code updates to the kernel .... however...

    Windows NT 3.1 = 3.1
    Windows NT 3.5 = 3.5
    Windows NT 4.0 = 4.0
    Windows 2000 = 5.0
    Windows XP = 5.1
    Windows Vista = 6.0
    Windows 7 = 6.1
    Windows 8 = 6.2
    Windows 8.1 = 6.3

    and then ....

    Windows 10 = 10.0

    Fucking hell Microsoft.

Rey is overpowered, definitely, but I didn't really have a huge problem with that.

No one has a problem with someone being overpowered. People have a problem with the character development which makes them magically solve problems without effort. It creates a story with zero intrigue and a character which is incredibly hollow.

But their performances were ill-served by the writing and directing.

This is the new Starwars in a nutshell. Characters driven by a plot that makes zero sense. Not just developmentally (Mary Sue Rei, or the Leia stupidity) but also who make decisions that make no sense (a small resistance leader withholding critical plan details from one of their most senior soldiers leading to a pointless mutany).

"But.... Russians!!" is the last refuge of the compleat idiot.

I have no reason to believe that Russian nerds liked the movie anymore than anyone else. Chances are that rather than make shitty youtube videos about how bad the movie is, they just activated their twitterbots.

  17. Rey isn't a terrible character

Rei's biggest problem is her name. A more fitting name would be Mary. Mary Sue. Her character isn't terrible, but the plot of her character development is created by someone who must have missed the Writing 101 class titled "Don't Do This!"

  18. Good to hear something is working. However I don't trust any opinion regarding snafus. Unfortunately someone in your company has a history of systematically ignoring problems raised by insiders, even on their own premium hardware.

Windows 10 has had Targetted Branch disabled on all my devices ever since stories about Windows 10 bugs affecting Surface devices, and more importantly being reported by insiders.

At this point it's like playing russian roulette if you have a Surface.
It's more like playing reverse russian roulette where most of the chambers are filled if you have something else too.

Eagerly awaiting the Semi-Annual release for broad deployment in a few months :-)

Since Windows 95 that was over. Remember Winamp? It didn't give two s***s about your system-wide settings, and neither did an entire world of applications afterwards. Real Player, ICQ, probably the most widely used currently: Chrome, or Steam.

  20. As someone who ditched a Dell 4 years ago for a Surface Pro 3, I have been far more productive carrying around a device with this form factor and connection options than I ever was with an old chunky heavy laptop that spent a lot of time at home rather than on the road with me.

If you're comparing it to a full feature laptop then you likewise significantly missed the point. I suggest you scroll down further in the anouncment since there's a product more suitable to your needs.

  23. Equating the environmental concerns of the manual, which few people read, is not necessary at all for the function of the device, and can be obtained in alternative formats, with the actual device itself is just utterly stupid.

Instead look at the environmental cost benefit analysis of the printed manual vs the device itself. You'll find there's no good reason to send paper at all with any product.

Also technical writing. No manual, paper or PDF these days even remotely comes close to the resources at hand on the internet or a dedicated book on the topic. Why settle for second best? Before the days of the internet paper manuals made sense. These days most people don't even read the manual online but rather look for other ways to solve their problems.
