The Shamen released Pro-Gen (Move any Mountain) on CD as a set of distinct samples about 15 years ago - same aim - sample the clips and build your own remix.
it's probably got quicktime on there as iTunes and all the Apple media stuff is built on that. which also implies it's got carbon on there as well as quicktime and carbon are closely related.
There was another Jobs quote a few years ago about other players copying the white earbuds... he said something along the lines of "when the girl sees that it's not an iPod she will think you're a fake".
I love the way he understands that making a gadget that sells is nothing to do with tech but instead all about pulling the ladies.
Sun's licence specifically forbade forking, but it was forked anyway and it took years to resolve. by which time a clone had been written and is now a major player. doing it with the gpl would have meant proving the gpl as well so could have taken even longer.
one major difference between the two, that Channel 4 has done tons to eradicate, is the frequency of the ads.
In the past, a half hour show would have one ad break. A one hour show would have two or three.
Now, on C4, any American show (they don't seem to do it with the British ones) will have an ad break as soon as the titles finish and then another every couple of minutes later.
the carling black label ones (very funny beer ads), the levi's spaceman ad (all those levi's ones were good but i presume they were international), even bloody shake and vac (which most people in their thirties still know all the words to, despite being over twenty years ago).
you could ALWAYS tell immediately if it was a british ad, an american one or (the lowest of the low) a european one, simply from the quality.
i've not seen an ad on the TV for about ten years that has made me go 'wow', but it did used to happen.
yup. the original imac didn't do anything that you couldn't do yourself with a screwdriver, a driver disk and a CD-RW drive. it was just packaged so all you needed to do was plug it in.
yup. the ipod didn't do anything that you couldn't do yourself with a USB cable, some crappy jukebox software and an MP3 player. It was just packaged so all you needed to do was plug it in.
the difference between Google and MS is that one is a huge behemoth getting larger and assimilating knowledge about everyone and everything and the other has been convicted (twice) of serious breaches of the law
I'm sure I read somewhere that they offered David Heinemeier Hansson a fat paycheque but he refused stating that he liked working for a small organisation.
I think the origami was an attempt at an iPod killer. iPods have iTMS lock-in, but the Origami will run iTunes, bypassing that.
Of course they forgot the hardware lock in (will it work with your Bose thingies?) - and more importantly they forgot the three clicks to my music part.
The clubs have the power to ban individuals from the grounds. In England you can expect a swift ejection and a ban for racism. But in some countries, a large proportion of the crowd can be making monkey noises and chucking bananas and UEFA (yes, I know, not FIFA) fine the club a few thousand Euros. If UEFA cared then they would put pressure on the clubs to take action. But they don't.
Should Vendors Close All Security Holes?
NO

and iTunes (when it was still slick and sleek).
the iPod took off when Windows users could use iTunes and not crappy MusicMatch.
The key phrase was that "business customers won't like it". MS doesn't actually care about consumers - they are just after the multinationals

i bow to your superior knowledge. still pisses me off though. and i've normally turned off by then.

"Tesco Value" is their cheapo in-house brand (they also do plain Tesco brand stuff).
They do very nice cheese but I prefer Sainsburys' sausages.
The name Tesco comes from the founder's wife - Tessa Cohen.

pubs?
Adobe has a few patents on it but anyone is allowed to use the PDF standard royalty-free. so it is an open standard (although not free)
does that make it alright?

try running OSX on an old CRT iMac. Then use Shapeshifter to switch the theme to one that doesn't include tons of transparency.
The UI can make a hell of a difference.
most of the pages look shite.
it ignores standards.
but how many other sites will get you to the top of the charts?

Eric Sink is the moderator on that forum - hence the title.
isn't that the point? not being a mono-culture is the answer, not being open-source.
