Nice stuff, thanks. While I always am interested to see what Linux hackers will do next this one puzzled me. Can't remember the last time I found a clean Linux boot to take too long. However this makes more sense. I would be nice to netboot like I could with my old Sun box.

Diablo 2 Goes Gold

Everyone gets down on Blizzard because their release date has slipped on Diablo II. They may not make ship dates, but they have been very persistient in trying to release quality games. They have also gone a long way to fix battle.net code to eliminate cheating, all the while keeping battle.net a free service. I think in the end they have given their fans and users great games that have become instant classics.
Killcreek wrote the strategy guide. I saw it in the store and joked, gee I wonder how they're gonna sell that, with a centerfold of Killcreek? I opened it up and sure enough there it was. On the new doom front Old Man Murray in response to the Id announcment had a link to a group of Croation developers developing a game called Serious Sam. It looks like it has promise.
I have been wondering this myself. If you look in the FAQ from the developer site, they state that the code to the TurboCluster daemon would be released as open source under the GPL I think. I have yet to see any evidence of this. Perhaps they wanted to make more money. You'll notice the orginial price for TC was supposed to be 995 and 1995 for 2 node and unlimited versions, its now 1795 and 3495. Anyone know what happened?
I give my props to the./ crew for holding your ground. While many would like to see M$ brought down, that seems like a difficult goal given M$ wealth and resources. However since the ruling on the DOJ case, M$ has started to weaken. If more groups stand up to M$,/. being one of them, perhaps we can all bring them down.
Good piece emmett, while others may think the editorial had little substance, I would disagree. If there was one thing I thought the piece imparted, it was the fervor and passion which/. rails against M$ and their attempt to censor/. and its posters. Here's a suggestion for Gates et. al, while you (Gates & Co.) are on the defensive, quit hiding behind you lawyers and have an honest intelligent discussion abut all of this, you just might learn something.
Perhaps what frustrates me most about this whole deal is that such a large segment of the PC userbase does not understand that there are alternatives to M$. And they do not understand what they are buying into we they are led like sheep to the slaughterhouse that is M$.
It is unfortunate that Micro$oft feels the need to take this sort of action. Apparently it has learned nothing through the course of its legal battle with the DOJ. It would be nice if M$ could see the discussion on/. for what it is. A segment of the user community voicing its opinon. Instead it has responded impersonally through this sanitized note from M$ lawyers. I encourage/. to fight this to the fullest extent as long as it is practical, no need to make/. or Andover.net a martyr.
This is excellent, now I can Frag from the road. I just hope they get that visor version running soon. And I thought my productivity dropped when I fisrst got a PDA, now it will reach all time lows.
While it is an ambitious plan, I definately think there is room for this type of service in the enterprise world. Great Bridge stands to benefit as do many smaller startups. If there is one area where the cost of enterprise computing is prohibitive its the database market. I work for a company of 40 employees and we have a $30,000 a year support contract for our database.
Sweet!, that's the missing link to my Daikatana mission pack. Watch out you little toads you have more to contend with than that gas powered glove!

Somebody smack me please, the second set of pricing came from a review on Linux World Australia, hence probably in australian dollars. John
