Like every 9 year old on MySpace ever did... just put in the wrong birthyear and everything stays cool.
Yeah, when I saw that immediately after COPPA was passed, ICQ's terms of service changed to include (paraphrased) "if you're under 13, fuck off", I knew the US government had not thought about unintended consequences.
Of course, they are assholes too, which only want to spoil your fun and feel great by forbidding you to smoke in several places.
At <software company that was acquired>, we smoked everywhere, and not just cigarettes. Once we were acquired by <large software company>, that practice was reduced, as was our productivity. Interestingly, the IT staff smoked (not cigarettes) with us: so, at a small company, they were enablers; at the larger company, they had different priorities. I prefer smaller companies; they can achieve more with less.
The last time we balanced the Federal budget (as in, zero debt, not that just the deficit was balanced, meaning no new debt), was in 1835. Since then we've had several central banking systems which have defrauded the populace of wealth through tricks like printing more money, making existing dollars worth less. In the past 100 years the dollar has lost 98% of its value. Gold maintains its value across millenia: an ounce of gold in Roman times would purchase the finest clothes and accessories; these days, an ounce of gold can purchase a decent suit.
Besides that, bank runs are completely caused by the banking practices, not by the lack of a Federal Reserve, or the existence of a gold standard. The reason that bank runs can possibly exist is because the bankers participate in something called fractional lending, meaning they can lend out far more money than they have sitting in the vault.
The current crisis in Europe was artificially created by the bankers as well. They said some nice words and got the politicians to put all their eggs in one basket that had the bankers' pit underneath it, then the bankers helped the basket tip a little, and what ended up falling out became the bankers' property. This is no less than the economic rape of the first world, and I am actually surprised that no politician has decided to wage war on the "top of the needle" (the structure is no longer a pyramid; those at the top are a long, long way up, and there are only something like 400 of them).
There's a nice video on YouTube explaining all this, which I encourage you to watch so that you will be able to discuss these topics from a more informed perspective.
Yeah, I'm another who doesn't understand. How does your muscle memory work correctly? You need to keep two patterns now, one for shifting and one for not. My little finger works by itself at the beginning of a sentence; forcing it to not do that would require extra effort on my part.
But, perhaps you think that it's saving some energy on your part. If that is the case, I would counter with: forcing your readers to work harder just to save a little ATP does not seem to align with the goal of maximum efficiency, and it means that your writing may reach a smaller audience. If you're okay with that, well, what can the rest of us do except read less of your output?
It's also somewhat rude to respond to Raenex saying "I've written at length about this before, thanks for understanding" without a pointer to the writing you have performed at length explaining why you think that breaking a convention is helpful/useful/not deserving of ridicule.
When you produce a 100% effective treatment for deranged serial killers, that will convert them into productive, or at least, harmless self-supporting members of society, then the death penalty will no longer be necessary.
That should bring chills to those who have experienced "A Clockwork Orange".
I've actually been thinking similar thoughts, but more along the lines of government espionage than government crime-solving. Some top shows these days are Burn Notice, Covert Affairs, (the short-lived) Undercovers, and the most recent episode of Person of Interest had a tie-in to the CIA. It concerns me because people are being influenced by this; about two months ago, I heard for the first time a radio ad for working for the CIA.
The cop dramas also routinely show abuse of authority by those cops; this also tends to get the populace used to these acts, especially when those cops who use these negative tactics end up "winning" by the end of the show. It's not a great lesson, but I'm a solitary voice in a drowning hurricane.
You talk about the lack of adoption of multicast. I think that was preferable back in the days of "the Internet will be just like cable, with channels that everyone can watch a show on at the same time." Instead, YouTube allows people to watch whenever they want; if two people start watching a movie a minute apart, I don't think multicast will help (although it's been a while since I studied it).
Another aspect of it is the existence of the "local caching companies", like Akamai. If, instead of streaming every time we wanted to watch "Party Rock Anthem ft. Lauren Bennett, GoonRock", we streamed it the first time and then brought it from local cache, we would be causing less strain on the networks and might not have created the conditions required for Akamai to incorporate in the first place. And it could still be arranged with counters on the site; the code would just go "update counter; get from local cache; if not there, get from internet". Sure, some people would find a way to access the cache without the counters. Big deal; our rights and freedoms are far more interesting than the profits of some temporary corporation.
Course, then you get the problem of having a politician be in office, then since he can't any more, his wife or son or somebody "runs", when in reality they are just a puppet for continued terms. I guess in theory the person in office would still have a chance to overwrite them, but... yeah.
Perhaps this will be when they finally wake up and realize we've had real cryptography for a whole generation, but largely choose not to make use of it.
Interesting: I can see a business model for "encrypted Facebook posts", where nobody except the people who have been given the keys can see it. (And then I go back into my fuck-Facebook shell where my/etc/hosts file cannot allow my computer to access any Facebook site.)
"If I ordered a general to fly from one flower to another like a butterfly, or to write a tragic drama, or to change himself into a sea bird, and if the general did not carry out the order that he had received, which one of us would be in the wrong?" the king demanded. "The general, or myself?"
The insight here is that a King can declare that any of his subjects should Die. Arbitrarily, and with no recourse. I'm glad our country moved away from Kings, although it seems to be bringing them back in style... Perhaps it's time to Move.
My neighbors can complain all they want about the buildings that I build which are legal and to code. Regardless of their religious convictions, if my buildings are legal and to code, the government will not ask me to remove them. I don't see this situation any differently. Even if it's related to aborted peace talks. Sure, people who think mythologically can and will kill you and your family and destroy your property, so it is worth considering doing what your neighbors ask even if you're well within your legal rights.
If anything, he will try to define himself and his regime with some unspeakable act, which results in the deaths of dozens, if not hundreds, and then blame it all on the US and ROK.
To me, that's weird; I would prefer my legacy to be known by some productive act. Or multiple.
It has been widely known for quite some time that Jesus was born sometime between 7 and 4BCE, and that the CE calendar is off by a few years with respect to that occurence.
I'm sorry, this just cracks me up! Paraphrased: "It has been widely known for quite some time that a part of mythology is, in fact, mythological and not true."
I'm convinced that God wants me to love my neighbor as myself
Eww.
More seriously, the thing about forgiveness is: you can use it to excuse all sorts of negative behaviors. Have fun!
I "know" that there's no Christian God judging me (sure, I'm not 100%, because part of the beauty of that brainwashing is "you cannot believe if you have proof"). With this knowledge, I treat everyone as I would like to be treated were the tables turned. For you to state that you're unable to do this is, as others mentioned, a little bit concerning for the readers, regarding your mental state and ability to operate within society.
Keep laughing; at least that also has beneficial health effects. I know Jin Shin Jyutsu works for me, as does EFT; and I'm currently learning about Edgar Cayce's works. I'm no tyrant; I fear your bullet much more than I fear your laughter. In fact, I welcome your laughter, because it helps you.
It took me around 40 hours of practice before I could feel the energy moving. For me, it's electric; for others, it's hot/cold, or resistance/attraction. It's neat that the "sixth sense" uses an existing sense to make itself known.
Doesn't bother me one whit if you don't educate yourself about this. At least you're laughing.
I tend to think the second solution is the only realistic way to put an end it. If you think otherwise, perhaps you'd suggest a realistic solution.
Here's my solution (aligned with yours): 535 * $15 = $8,035. For under ten grand, we can educate every member of congress and the senate. And we can do it publicly, I'd like to see this be an ACLU or EFF funded activity.
I don't want to share too many personal details; I had some debt issues, and I can pay for the service for the rest of my life with the money they saved me. I'm a happy customer, I feel that any additional benefit I get from them is gravy. Other responses have had valid concerns; fortunately, I haven't run across that attorney. To the other responder (AC): if you obtain poor service and feel that an attorney just wants to make your case go away, give corporate a call. They truly care about their customers' perception of customer service.
Like every 9 year old on MySpace ever did... just put in the wrong birthyear and everything stays cool.

Huh. You said more less than an hour later.

... Or, an above-ground guillotine.

I'm going to have my corporation run for office. After all, it's more and more a person as time passes, right?
Course, then you get the problem of having a politician be in office, then since he can't any more, his wife or son or somebody "runs", when in reality they are just a puppet for continued terms. I guess in theory the person in office would still have a chance to overwrite them, but ... yeah.
Legacy: it's not just for colleges any more!

I would vote for you. Seriously.

Enjoy yourself!
Well, Mulholland and his lot thought they could make the desert bloom
They certainly had a lot of drive!
Just as long as they leave our precious bodily fluids alone, I say what's the harm?
Well, somewhat goofily: your current bodily fluids are yesterday's weather. So, no, they're not doing that.
My neighbors can complain all they want about the buildings that I build which are legal and to code. I have cameras and a phone with a better camera than the iPad so why would I want another awkward camera?
Umm, Skype?
