  1. This was a lose-lose contest on Large Prize Offered For Writing Mac Virus · · Score: 2, Interesting

The fact that he shut it down ("chickened out") only gives credibility to the claim that "Windows is just a bigger target" crowd, which were not his intentions. If he kept the contest going, and the Macs had been infected, which probably would have happened eventually, then it would show that Macs are vulnerable too, which Mac software writers don't want, because Mac has benefited from the security lessons MSFT has learned the hard way and the perception, real or not, that Macs are more secure. Either way, it was a lose-lose for this guy and the Mac community.

I believe so, I have that tape, created in 2000, which documents the launching of Netscape's browser to the open source world, and they document a 14-yr old kid (from Atlanta I believe) who moves to Silicon Valley to work for Netscape, and his mom drives him to work. I'll have to watch that tape again, but I believe it is him.

DISCLAIMER: I develop heavily in both C# and Java, more C# than Java, about 80% C#, 20% Java, not by choice but based on client demands.

I don't think it's fair to compare Java 1.5 (released) vs. C# 2.0 (beta, who knows when it'll actually be released). That's like comparing Linux to Longhorn.

And re: IDEs, while programming so much in VS.NET, I missed all of the cool features of my IDEA IntelliJ Java IDE that I was excited to buy ReSharper, bringing some of IDEA's cool features to VS.NET.

One of the main things I like about .NET, though, is that the libraries seem to be more consistent, whereas the Java APIs have evloved and been added to by different developers using diffferent programming styles and approaches to patterns, each package seems to implement different programming styles and constructs, but you get used to it after a while. Plus, Java has so much deprecated code, they need to clean those out once and for all and clean up the APIs, see this for more details of what I'm talking about.

This other eProvisia service forces you to an address on their email server, bogus.

I saw a doctor for the same reason some years ago.

First, they sent me to a neurologist, who electrocuted various parts of my arms and hands to check the stimulii. Since I felt the full extent of the pain of being shocked over and over everything checked out OK. He said it was probably a case of tendonitis, which is fairly common, probably more common than carpal tunnel.

Also, someone mentioned the thing that if you hunch forward too much that you could be pinching nerves in your neck that are causing the pain. I've run across that too.

One thing that helps is variety, like others have said.

Also, if you've been behind a computer for that long I'll bet you don't type properly, like keeping your fingers on the home row ("ASDF JKL;") and are not using the proper fingers to press the proper keys. Lately, I have been retraining myself to type from the home row and it's a bit frustrating and I type slower but it is more comfortable if I stick with it.

But I think computer mice cause more problems for people than keyboards.
