'X' was named that because either nobody could think of a name, or nobody 'got' us. There's no need too use a 'y' designation other than it follows after 'x', but that just denote lazyness.
It would be more honest too name generations by world/national economic/political gain/loss. For instance, there is the 'Lost Generation' (yes, I know it formally pertains too writers in the early 1900s, but it's been broadly applied), but what makes them the 'Lost Generation' could be applied too several generations that came before them, and perhaps too the current generation that seems too be holding the limelight. Things tend to follow cycles, and a lot of it just happens over and over again when the previous generation(s) have forgotten about what went on before. Fashion, for instance, comes full circle about every 27 years. Broad generational attitudes could come full circle every 100 years or more.
"When i was a teen, i also heard trashy music, also had cheesy jet-fighter posters in my room and wasnt known for my social skills. And the others in my class werent better, either."
So, things haven't changed that much, have they? Except that the posters are in your parents basement.
Probably sour grapes to the guy. There are those that are lamers that think they are good. I once got banned from a CS:source server because I was crouched down, and sawed another guy off at the ankles. He swore I was hacking because he was shooting where my torso should have been, but wasn't due to the crouch. Lamers abound.
For what it's worth, and in all fairness to the numbskulls at SOE. They are giving veteran players an extra character slot for each planned slot. I.E. two characters on up to four servers.
I really don't expect an answer no matter how a question is worded, or it's merit. The questions and answers already posted up are the usual pr fluff pieces and answers, and if any SOE employee, even Smedley, follows true to form, no more will be said by them.
Kinda makes me wonder how much Slashdot was paid to put this entry up in the first place.
Money should never be more important than a company/persons integrity. Entities that make money, but lose their integrity have a special part of hell waiting on them. If this hell is in the afterlife or on earth is another question.
"He was hired to retool/redesign a game way back in '95 (maybe before that, it's so long ago now...). He told his superiors one thing, but designed another -- Armorgeddon (now Tanarus)*. "
Which, even back then wasn't an original idea. Cyberstrike did it first, and did it better. He stole that idea just as deftly as he stole players $30 for the toow.
Why the fuck are you answering questions here on Slashdot instead of answering questions in your own goddamn forums? Are you defective? Do you give enough of a fuck to talk to your players instead of going on these idiotic public relations jaunts? The fact that you are here answering questions instead of your own forums answering questions just shows how little you give a damn beyond reaping the subscription rates and ripping your players off by announcing a major game change the day after release of an upgrade.
Instead of putting bad money after good in developing the NGE why didn't SOE fix the bugs, and add content? I'm not talking loot drop schematic content, I'm talking changes in profession content? For example, there are a lot of furnishings in the game world that isn't available for the architect class to create? How hard would it be to add those items to the architect list?
Smoke and mirrors. The rootkit shouldn't have been there to begin with, and then there's the question of how many people will even hear about and use, this fix?
"is in many ways as chilling as anything from Jackson's fertile imagination." "
WHAT fertile imagination? AFAIK he hasn't done anything original.
Whoever complained is an asshole. Who is or is not an asshole must be known, and those persons/companies ostracized(sp).
I'd just tell em to go fuck themselves, and if they thought it was 'illegal' they can just call the damn cops.
It's probably 'illegal' because the dude didn't pony up money to the bluetooth cabal.
Do you have a reliable source for that quote?
Well, excuse the fuck out of me. I evidently missed the memo that told me I was going to be graded.

Yes, totalitarian governments are better than governments based on freedom.
Absulutely,
yup

Oh, this happened about three days ago.
The guy can't open his mouth without almost literally crapping from it.
He never posts anything to the message boards other than a once-in-a-while long marketspeak bullshit.
I wish I had mod points. Well said.

Kinda gives the dark side some appeal, doesn't it?
People are real happy about the 25 hour download over dialup.

True enough, but it does get the point across.
Money should never be more important than a company/persons integrity. Entities that make money, but lose their integrity have a special part of hell waiting on them. If this hell is in the afterlife or on earth is another question.
True, but there are times/situations/people that you just have to beat with the verbal stick. Politics and reason have already been tried.
But it just doesn't have the same 'ooompf'
