And how exactly does this relate to the story at hand...?? Don't get me wrong, I loved reading your little slice of life (even though I have to conclude that converting to Linux without planning & testing is downright stupid and shortsighted!).
Somehow I doubt this was actually an Applestore... More likely it was one of the many "Apple Only" resellers that have closed in droves over the last few years (like B.Mac in Montreal - Although I hear they'll be reopenning...)
The problem that PCs have that Apple didn't have with the Mac Mini is heat... Current PC processors, except for Via's CPUs, give out A LOT of heat which is very hard to manage in such a small casing with little or no active cooling. The G4 is ideal for this! Also note that the Minis' power supply is external, something which isn't common place with mini PC cases.
In short, it would be VERY had to find a similarly configured PC for the same price with anything smaller then a shuttle-style case... but good luck!
Yeah, good point! Although those exploits were 1- Application specific and easily patched whereas this bug can reoccur simply by installing an app which would overwrite the GDI library with an older unpatched version. 2- Such a bug under a non-MS OS is admittedly annoying... But let's admit that the odds are nobody would care enough to create an valid worm/virus 3- Who ever said I was running Linux anyways...?:-P
Considering that this affects any windows which uses MS GDI libraries...! I read somewhere (zdnet I think), that apps that don't even use them often times install the bad library (ie: Macromedia apps come to mind) so nobody running on windows is safe from this one, not until AV apps catch-up at least!
From what I understand, it has something to do with the release in the rest of Europe. Since they usually release the movies in all of europe at the same time, at that dubbing the movies takes time, it gets released later.
'Hey Pierre, curriel me those sales figures.' Just sounds wrong!
Well, first of all the word would not be used that way since the word "courriel" would refer the the item which is the e-mail, not the action of sending a message...
So you'd hear "Envoie-moi un courriel' (Send me an email), J'ai recu 50 courriels (I recieved 50 emails), but never that absurd example mentioned above. The word has been used for years in Quebec (as in a province of canada...) and although I don't use it all that much is does make sense.
Anyways, that's just my 2 cents.
Well they don't really relate at all except for the fact that they are both members of parliement. The ruling party is the Liberal party which has a majority of the seats in parliements. The Heritage minister (which is the minister responsable for say... culture, the nationnal broadcast system CBC, etc...) is an MP (member of parliement) in the liberal gov.
The Canadian Alliance is the official opposition (ie: party with 2nd most number of seats.)
Each MP is elected to represent a certain area (circonscription) and each of these has roughly the same number of constituents. So ou MP is either part of the government or of the opposition.
To put it clearly, The executive and legislative branches of gov are both in parliement. Hypothetically it's as if the Majority Leader in the US was president, all Secretaries would be elected members of congress...

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for free speach and you're intitled to your opinion. What I'm baffled by Is why this isn't (yet...) labled as a troll or a flamebait! I don't have the time nor the will to plow through your lousy and baseless argumentation, I just hope someone else does! (especially since this thread has little to do with the main subject...)
I just wanted to point out that By canadian Juvenile law, the 8 month sentence plus probation the kid got is quite severe! And let's not forget that Yahoo, eBay and company never even bothered to try and prove during the trial that they suffered any losses at all!! I guess they figured out they wouldn't get any of their money back... What's a judge to do? Give 5 years when nobody's really complaining??
Although I doubt that "purifying information" is a good thing (at least in the chinese sense), I personally hope they succeed. Hell I've been looking for a good spam filter for months and I haven't found it! Schools have been looking for porn filters for years and they haven't found it... If the chinese succeed, well let's just say there are good sides to everything;oP
Hey how can this be news...
I am currently a 2nd year student at the HEC (Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales, in other words a business school) and they've been requiring laptops for 3 years now. I chose to go there partly because of that. Sadly, after a few months I began to realise that the idea of sticking a PC in front of students in class is somewhat dangerous. Anyone heard of ICQ and multiplayer gaming?? LAN games (quake, delta force, etc...) have all made pasing courses somewhat harder. In addition, being as dependant on technology as we now are, a PC breakdown becomes pretty much catastrophic. Hell sometimes I would just want to throw the thing out the window!
On and on a side note, this is probably the most dangerous thing to do if you're a linux advocate. It basically forces Windows, MS Office, etc down the throats of influencable students! The good news is that IE makes the school LAN crash so NS lives!;o)
"Welcome to the real world"
Try telling that to the 5+ billion people who don't even speak a word of english! I personnaly would love a standard language cause I just hate it when I land on the Japanese or Russian pages, but I don't think english would make everyone happy. I'm from Quebec (canada) where language has always been an issue, and beleive me, adopting a defacto language isn't as easy as it may seem... This concept might be hard to understand for someone who has never been truly exposed to such a debate, but it truely is VERY complex since nobody wants to give up their culture (especially for the american culture, no offence intended, but that's still the case...) "Welcome to the real world"
New no... but I guess I don't read all threads in their finer details :-P Although I do find this all pathetically funny...

Hopefully not too many people get hit by this...
Meanwhile, I'm just happy I don't run windows at home!!
