That's nonsense, how do you know he does not have SUV? And if you are whining because your car is not efficient that's a different story. This is about gas prices. I thought you would tell him off by saying that given that the dollar is so low with respect to the euro, $5.6 shouldn't feel that bad to him. But imagine my case, I live in Costa Rica and we are paying $3.5 per gallon, we have a mix of european and US cars, and our average monthly income is probably half of what people make in your town and less than half than in Europe. So yes we really are paying twice or more than you.
Well not me... I work at home and don't go out much, I make more than average and I have an italian car, but you get the point.

Another reason you are not one to be whining is that one reason why oil prices are high is because demand from the U.S. has continued to rise no matter how high the prices go. So while you whine you keep using gas, but people down here now just whine but can't keep using their cars as much as before.

So go drive somewhere and stop whining.

I don't agree with that. If there were no software companies where would people go when they need something that is not available as open source? The model will never die because there will always be people willing to pay for software because they have no way of getting if for free. And I don't see what is wrong with hiring some guys to create some new software and then selling the software to cover costs and make some profit.

95% of all software I use is free but now and then I pay for some stuff that I need and that has a fair price or will make me save money in the end.

The more educated people understand that ICE (the local telco) is just trying to make more money and charge for something that many of us are already doing for free. It would be ridiculous to pass a law like this.

ICE has been the focus of several corruption scandals recently and people jus don't trust them anymore and it would be difficult to get the general population to stand behind them on something like this that doesn't seem to benefit anyone but ICE itself.

Last time there was a popular uplift because ICE convinced many (less educated people) that ICE was going to be sold to multinational companies and that the poor people would have to pay more for services, which was not true but people fell for it. I don't see how ICE can get popular support now.
