In your logic, being "arrested" is "punishment" before being found guilty. Do you really think that we should not arrest people, set bail, for people accused of crimes? What kind of liberal utopia do you live in?
I went to college, and that is not something I learned in college. What I learned at the University was that there were a bunch of colleges there that would not have a single student in them except for the general education requirements that forced a bunch of people to take stupid classes to fill out those GE Requirements.
And the sad thing is, that most of those liberal studies college degrees didn't require reciprocal cross training in hard sciences and math. And when they actuall did require it, it was hard watching all the future teachers struggle with basic math classes which would have been hilarious, except knowing that they were going to be teaching future students. And the most astonishing thing I can tell you, after working in education is that many (if not most) teachers don't actually want to learn anything beyond what is actually "needed".
I've found that most people who are into technology have a much broader discipline range in regards to learning, and that is caused by our general need to keep learning new stuff or get left behind in the "real world". I love learning, but only after having hated it during school.
This is nothing more than a classic example of "theory vs application". The difference between theory and application is that in theory, theory and application are the same, in application they are not.
People who work for liars should know who they work for. And they have a choice, they can quit or request that the message be changed to something more reasonable...
We're experiencing a high volume of calls right now, and there is a delay in processing your call. We value your business and if you please hold we will get to your call as soon as possible. You are #3 in the queue. You may want to call back during the hours of 6:30 am and 8:30 am EST or between 8:00 pm and 12:00am EST when call volumes are much lower
That is not a lie. It presents the more information and allows the customer to call back at a time that doesn't have high volumes.
These companies have metrics, they know call volumes and times. They should value their customers. When companies stop valuing customers, it is a sign that they don't understand their business.
It isn't UDP protocol, it is the "streaming" part that does that to provide "smooth" playback. Dropping data requires some level of error correction to ensure usable playback of a stream in UDP. That error correction is always in the form of extra data. How much is dictated by the streaming protocol (not layer 3 or 4) . UDP, unlike TCP doesn't have much(if any) error correction built into the protocol. TCP at least has Packet sequencing and can detect missing packets and request resend.
Actually, I call that "lying". And when they lie to me, I feel that lying is expected so I lie to the people I end up talking to, often blatantly. If they call me on it, I mention their lie, and suggest that if they start out by lying that it is only fair that I be allowed to lie back to them.
Thanks for the brief explanation. I want to express my appreciation for a CEO who takes the time to present his/her company to people, even if briefly. Thank you.
UDP streaming is not only a dirty hack, it also uses more bandwidth than it actually needs. Every packet has bits of both the preceeding and following packets so that if a packet gets dropped or delayed or whatever, there is still enough information to not miss the "missing" information. By eliminating the need for redundant information in every packet, going TCP over high speed networks will LOWER the actual bits needed to be transmitted, reducing the congestion that is killing Netflix and other such services.
The other option is to establish a industry wide QOS system for data packets. However that option would eventually fail as people would tunnel other data underneath high value data packets, or forge packet headers, such as being done with HTTP tunneling to get through firewalls and such.
I work in a district that is financially diverse. Under performing schools get EXTRA funding from state and federal programs designed to help improve performance. While the 'rich' schools are cash strapped and yet still manage to have higher scores on standardized testing. Tossing money at the problem is not fixing or remediating the problem.
The problem isn't money for the schools, it is socio-economic nature of the student's home life..And the state cannot fix that problem.
Me, personally, I'm for a "voucher" program and not public schools at all. Schools will compete and students/parents are responsible for their own education. Of course that doesn't serve the interests of every student who is in a sucky home life and uncaring parents, but those students have no chance in life as it is, unless they fight for it themselves. I know people who fight their way out of those places and it is always by hard, ass kicking work, and self determination. Want to improve education, teach THAT skill.
Education Industry is sponsored by politicians with pet projects designed to make politicians look good while skimming money from the top down till what little trickles into a classroom gets used.Want to fix education, get it out of national and state politics where it doesn't belong., and bring it back local.
We are beyond Industrial now, in to the "information" age, why do we have a educational system that looks like a factory?
My point, it is called Amortization. Would you rather pay $2400 up front (see above) for "unlimited" usage? Data usage varies by people, some people don't use hardly any, while others use a ton. It is like what I saw a few years ago with AT&T, had full 4 bars connection but very slow "data" from the tower. I mean painfully slow. The cell tower wasn't the issue, the issue was the T1 servicing the tower trying to support 1500 cell users. It didn't matter if you were on a limited data plan or unlimited, the problem was total bandwidth wasn't there to support the users.
My problem isn't what they charge, or even data caps. It is NOT providing what we are supposed to be buying, which is data when we want it. This is the same problem I have with Comcast over selling and refusing to upgrade and blaming everyone for watching Netflix.
How much for that 10G pipe to the internet and the peering costs associated with it? How much to manage, support it? How much to haul the Fiber down the backroads and across the streams to connect you to everything. How much of that is paid in taxes and construction fees and to grease the wheels of the local (D) council members who vote "no" on any "big business" intrusion into their small pond, or the (R) ones who support you?
It is people like you who don't have a clue what the REAL costs are that drive this insanity. It isn't just the switch. It is the closet, cabling, power, infrastructure, management, rack, air conditioning, monitoring....
And profit is only a dirty word to socialists and communists. My problem isn't with what they charge, it is with the infrastructure issues, like having 4 bars and yet downloads are... garbage because the cell company only has a T1 to the tower, and 500 people trying to use it (exaggeration, but not by much).
Then don't buy a $399 laptop. My Current laptop has an Industrial keyboard. I love it. The sub $1000 laptops all have sucky keyboards. If you make your living using a computer, then don't skimp on a good one.
Its not the per data cost of the lines, it is the cost per port that is expensive. Replacing the 100 MB switch with the GB switch, and then the GB switch with the 10 (100) GB switch in 5 years is what costs. This doesn't include ongoing maintenance and management, and uplink costs. Paying for bandwidth is an easy solution to mitigate against some of that, and makes sense from this standpoint. However, when people like Comcast deliberately choke off data at a single point, in order to charge Netflix and others to bring them into the network (and still restricts this data) that is where I have an issue. If you're overselling/over subscribing your trunks, and aren't upgrading them when they are full, time for class action lawsuit.
I'm just wondering when someone is going to sue Comcast for not providing the service they are selling. Must be in the TOS contract that they don't have to provide any.
Our current "leadership" is hardly intelligent. Harry "we don't have GPS in the US" Reid is a fine example of stupid people already in office.
The funny thing for me is that the "left" never criticizes its own as being stupid or out of touch. I guess it is "how can they be stupid, they believe and vote the way I want" syndrome.
Palin isn't "stupid" as the leftwingers think she is, and she is playing the leftwing media like Itzhak Perlman playing a Stradivarius. She is driving the left crazy, and I think it is hilarious.
Having been both "sales" and "technical", I wouldn't want a "sales" person anywhere near recommending "technical" bits. Period.
My suggestion is to transition certain technical people to transfer into "technical sales", showing that they are from the technical side. My suggestion is for someone who's done technology for at least ten years, and knows general needs and can coordinate with the real technical people and put together a complete proposal that technical people can present together with the Technical Sales team people.
There is a natural distrust of normal sales people as just wanting to "make a sale" where technical people tend to want to design a solution that works, but not care about the "costing" of the job.
You don't even see the problem in your post, because it is so ingrained into our society.
Your first sentence is fine. Make fun of those people all you want. It is your second (perens) is where the problem is. WHY is there liability for RAW milk, in such a way that a STATE feels like it needs to regulate it by laws? You realize that this line of thinking is why we call it the "Nanny State", right?
Just wait till everyone starts carrying the IR "no camera" devices, rendering ALL camera's useless all the time.
The problem with technology is that for every action there is an opposite reaction, that is often greater that the intended one. Call it a corollary to the Streisand Effect.
Imagine for a minute that someone develops low cost "camera jammer" that does what is proposed and all the asshats of the world just start carrying them all the time, everywhere. It would mean that the camera wouldn't take any pictures anywhere. Of course they would make a law preventing anyone from owning such a device except for official government purposes, granting even more power to a tyrannical government. We are slowly becoming slaves to the state and our elected slave masters.
Don't care about A customer, because you have plenty others is one thing. To not care about ANY customer and you end up without any. And the difference between A and ANY is a NY minute, which is how long it will take to collapse a once powerful company.
If I was on the board of directors for Sony, I'd start sacking people from the top. Fuck their golden parachutes you're FIRED. Try to collect your "bonus" for running the company into the ground, I dare ya.

Please also standardize Batteries for these devices. Either that or I'd like them to have the ability to update the cells inside easily (non sealed)

DiHydrogenMonoxide is deadly if mishandled, it should be regulated. It is also used in Torture, which means we should ban it completely.
