I agree Carmack is less and less relevant.

Programmers still see him as a guru, but he is too busy with Armadillo Aerospace to share his programming ideas (plus he probably can't since Id Software got sold to Zenimax) like he used to on his .plan file.

    I miss the .plan file.

Get rid of all these legal money laundering schemes. Because it is all they are, these financial transactions are just massaging money to dilute it, or concentrate it, out of the sights of most people.

  7. Harder and harder on The Rise and Fall of Graphic Adventure Games · · Score: 2

Its getting harder and harder for me (and not just me apparently, youngsters too are complaining) to find really genuinely fun games.

Last stuff I was looking into was Deus Ex 3 (not an adventure game tho) and they seemed to have turned the whole thing into yet another Prince of Persia meets Mass Effect sort of thing, it looks like its going pure action and "wow" effect. This is in itself getting old, and even people from a younger generation can see it is
going to be a bad game and would rather play Deus Ex 1 even if it doesnt have new fangled graphics.

Last night I was discussing Under a Killing Moon with my girlfriend and we agreed that definetely fun games, and adventure games doubly so, are a rarety now.
She thinks, and I agree, that game developers nowadays take themselves way too seriously and forget to have some humour.

I can't wait for Episode 2 of Back To The Future adventure games, I bought the whole lot of them after playing Episode 1. I genuinely had fun on this one; and I can't wait for the rest of the episodes. (yes I actually paid for video games, I usually pirate the hell out of everything because I know I'll play it for no more than an hour before I get bored and no I dont have ADHD/ADD, I just like my games to be really fun; but I do not mind paying for good games like that)

I swear the media should stop reporting everything Facebook does (or not).. it is just free advertisement for them...

So wooohoo Facebook FINALLY was arsed (out of their busy personal data resale business) to modify a couple config files to enable HTTPS and now Facebook is HTTPS compliant, so are alot of other sites big fucking deal!

Media reporting on Facebook are, with the user, what keeps the cancer growing.

Well sorry but when you have a theme/story like that the least the director can do is not turn it into an action flick. It is just ridiculous to waste that sort of
story on yet another action flick.

I remember Nolan solely for The Prestige and this wasn't an action flick, if anything it was Nolan's only good movie I can remember.

If Nolan wants to waste his talent on action flicks then he is free to do so, but not mislead the public with the promise of a good plot...

  10. Oh boy here we go on Inception, The Social Network, TS3 Get Oscar Noms · · Score: 1

Seen all three movies, thankfuly didn't pay for them:

    - Inception: interesting premise (has been done before however) but absolute crap execution. Expected a deeply philosophical movie, ended up with an Matrix-ish action flick. A wasted opportunity.
    - Toy Story 3: ok, deja vu, but ok entertainment, nothing exceptional.
    - The Social Network: absolutely boring all the way thru, wasn't entertained for even a second. this has to be one of the most overhyped movies of all time. a very bad movie, even if it wasn't about
one of the worse assholes on the planet (Zuckerberg) it would still be a bad movie. A boring movie about the life of an asshole... wonderful...

Surely, they know they are on earth ...

The most crippling aspect of a mission to mars would be the psychological problems due to the knowledge you are not at home, on earth, you are not really safe and so on.

To be more true to life, the "crew" would have been made to actually believe they were in space. Of course that would be extremely tricky. Gravity and all.

Perhaps however could have sent them in LEO and simulate a mission there.

    Great going Blizzard:
    - Failure to have stable WoW servers even if you make a gazillion/minute from the franchise
    - Disabling SC2 LAN play and just overall making it necessary to connect to your servers to play
    - Taking down SC2 servers the day WoW Cataclysm comes out because you need the extra servers to make sure WoW players can get on. (I dread to think
what will happen the day you day you release Diablo 3, will you take down WoW and SC2 for the Diablo3 release then?), YOU ARE INCREDIBLY RICH FFS, cant afford extra servers wtf?
    - Now this...

Oh well I am not interested in Blizzard anymore, I played way too much WoW even though Warcraft is a franchise I care only mildly about.

The only Blizzard game that I might be remotely interested in nowadays is Diablo 3, presuming they didn't ruin it completely with WoW-style cartoon stylings.
And even then Torchlights seems to be overall alot better than what i've see of Diablo 3 so far.
