I agree with you 100%. The only reason i built my gaming rig with an AMD cpu was infact price. The same with my video cards. My last video card (purchased a couple years back) was a radeon 9600xt. For about the same cost just last year i upgraded to a geforce 6600gt (~$150).
I must admit though, yonah has me very excited and i'd love to get my hands on a yoanh based system.
go buy Meteos for the DS. it's easily the best title out there for this game.
sure the DS had a slow start in the software department, but it's just now starting to hit it's stride (while the PSP camp is currently suffering through a drought for new titles...)
Actually, sony has basically won. Nintendo's DS is rather pathetic... It's main push seems to be to play original nes games
Huh?! have you ever even used a DS? there is no (legal) means to play NES games on it, with the exception of the GBA NES Classic line of titles (and those arent even DS spesific).
dumbass.

Yeah, this totally looks like an issue that could be solved via a new firmware release. Maybe philips can tweak xvid playback a bit as well (anyone else familiar with the system menu trick to get some xvid files to playback properly? how about allowing QPEL support?)

Ok, so i downloaded the clip of that star wars fan film from the divx site, burned to a cd-r and tossed it into my philips DVP642 - it decoded the video with *no* issue, however it did skip past the menu that you will see on a windows system with the DivX Player.
i've been getting these for months. kinda makes me wonder how many people have been fooled by them.
the funniest by far is the one from the so-called mail administrator from my domain with the same basic message. the funny thing is, i own the domain and i run the server that's running the MTA...
That's funny. I've got a 2.4ghz panasonic cordless phone right here, and both my WAPs seem to work fine while i'm on the phone.
see the trick (and i know this is a hard one for lots of you to understand), is to have each 2.4ghz decide on its OWN channel. This really isn't rocket science.
this is pretty much the same way i learned to program and aobut computers. thing is, modern systems are so much more complex than the ones we were weened on.
when i eventually have kids, i'd like to make an effort to start them off on a very simple and basic computer system, be it a dec rainbow (which was my first system), a c64, or a trash-80- WHATEVER! once that base of knowledge is established and such, i'd unleash them on pretty much anything they'd want.
If you're poor, get a Radeon 9600xt. If you've got the mad cash to blow, go for the 9800xt or 9800pro. I've got no idea the status of support for the x800, but you never know.

About freakin' time TiVo!!!!
I love my series 2 and all, but honestly i've really been itching for the cable card based series 3 units since i've heard about them.
Hooray for dual tuners in a non-dtivo! hooray for easy expantion too! i just hope these badboys don't cost as much as the hd dtivos...
oh yes.
What about SysVR4 binary emulation under FreeBSD?
check this out. (it's not goatse, promise)
Countries outside of Japan and the US really do tend to get shafted in terms of game releases.
It's quite weak imo... i have many friends in europe who are hardcore gamers who usually resort to importing (but that can get expensive)
Fanboy my ass, punk.
I'd be willing to bet i was a multi-console gamer while you were still in diapers, so give it up.
Anyway feel free to list some A-list titles that will be coming out within the next year for the PSP.
(good luck with that btw.)
Face it - the PSP is an excessivly expensive movie player at this point.

no need to worry!
I bet the same people bitching about not needing "game or music" drivers are the same people who wonder why linux cannot fully displace windows.
sheesh. as many others have said already - if you dont want/need the driver - don't compile it.
The AP has had RSS feeds for some time - just never made a big deal of it.

so now a gay-ass blog entry will get you on the front pge of slashdot?!
these are dark days.
better keep this information from Dubya, or else we may find outselves "Liberating" the "people" of Titan from a brutal dictator...

"Laugh ah-while you can monkey boy!"
wrong. the ps2 has a 64bit MIPS cpu with *128bit extentions*. Think MMX or SSE.
i dont think there are *any* anamorphic LDs. the format was designed for playback on low-def tvs and the likes.

I loved my GBA, and i LOVED my GBA SP.... i cannot wait to get my hands on the DS.
It's called marijuana man. You should check it out.
