    ...Is that the Xbox 2/Next will be based around *3* 64bit powerpc chips. You're not going to be able to buy these parts yourself for that kind of money.
    Another thing to keep in mind, MS owns VirtualPC now, so it's very possible the vpc technology will be used to allow the xbox 2/next to run a stock windows distro, as well as possibly providing the backwards compatability for the original xbox games.

    if you had bothered to actually read the article, you'd have seen they clearly state the unit has a slot for gba carts, as well as new DS game cards.

    Also- the GBA was created to allow more time for the DS to be completed (it was code named Nitro, and rumors have been going around for EVER regarding this name. originally it was though the GBA was nitro, but well, it wasn't).

    Because of Perl versioning problems. Half a dozen different versions on a single platform.

    maybe you need a lession on how to install and maintain software from source.

    Because Perl exists in random locations.

    is it really that hard to change /usr/bin/perl to /usr/local/bin/perl or vice versa within your scripts? No i didn't think so.

    Because a particular Perl installation will have random modules installed.

    Sure, maybe if you're using RedHat. Be a man and build from source yourself :P

    Because Perl is not on *everything*.

    Again, maybe you need a lession in compiling software form source. Perl seems to run on most any platform i need it to.

    Because writing a shell script take a fraction of the time a Perl script takes.

    that's really more of an opinion than anything. personally, i have no trouble busting out a quick script to do what i need with perl. If you have any kind of real programing experience perl shouldn't be too hard to pick up.

    The moral of this story? Get rid of RedHat and install a manly OS like NetBSD or something.

    Fellowship, TTT, and the first disc of ROTK in the changer, and the final ROTK dvd in my region free player should make for maximum geek-age.

    oh come ON! the sparc5 was a 32bit sun4m class workstation. the ultra 5 is a 64bit sun4u class workstation.... there is a BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!

    having said that, i love my sun gear. i'm a happy owner of a 4 sparc4/sparc5 class systems, 2 smp sparc20s, a sparc1+, a sparcstation lx, sparcstation ELC and an SLC, and 2 ultra 5s.

    how wrong you are. Nintendo currently uses an IBM ppc cpu (i'm pretty sure it's a powerpc 440 variant) as well as an ATI chip for 3d. the only part of the cube that's made by NEC is the memory, which is actually on the same die as the ATI chip.
