I dislike MS as much as anyone else here does, but I'm a supporter of HD-DVD. HD-DVD removed the region bullshit that I found so offensive in the DVD spec and does not have Sony as a backer of the format. That, in itself, should be enough. Add to this the lack of *even more* DRM (BD+), and the fact that the bluray spec is still in a state of flux...
I may be betting on the wrong horse, but I rather like my HD-DVD player and if the format tanks, I'll just pick up as many movies as I can when they go on sale.
Interesting that you bring this up. I've always preferred to use vinyl to mix with, and I'm too old and stubborn (and cheap) to buy new "cd decks". Lots of people have overcome this by using Serato Scratch Live or similar. I've recently started playing around with http://xwax.co.uk/ So far, I'm pretty darn impressed.
There is a certain emotion that has attached itself to vinyl for me. I feel like I truly own that piece of music when it's on a record. There's no DRM, no way that record is going to try to put a rootkit on my mixer! My fair use rights are built right into the medium, as there is no way to "approve" or "disallow" content playback.
I offered to buy his ticket and hotel but he is too proud and refused to accept. Me and the rest of his friends will gang up on him when he returns and we'll fill his kitchen full of groceries for a couple months or something that he won't be able to refuse to help him out. Hats off to you, sir.
I agree that we are seeing some serious impact on the lower income populace in this country. Several of my friends in the service industry are having a particularly tough time adjusting to the increased cost of transportation and rising housing and food costs.
360 surpassing Wii by only a couple dozen thousand units **head explodes**
All kidding aside, I couldn't agree with you more. I really think that all of the "sales numbers" that compare ps3 to wii or x360 to wii or caribou migration to wii are meaningless at this time. These statistics are comparing apples to oranges. What is really being compared is:
How many consoles microsoft/rootkit (err... sony) can SELL to how many consoles nintendo can manufacture
I was in your situation a short while ago, replacing an early T series laptop provided by my employer, and I also did not want to support lenovo. I purchased a refurbished T40 from buy.com for about $500, and am incredibly happy. Yes, it's only a single core processor at 1.5Ghz, but it serves my needs very well. In my opinion, IBM's T series laptops are the best non-apple laptops ever to grace this planet.
"Blu-Ray has Pirates 3, Spiderman 3, Harry Potter, 300, Ratatouille, Simpsons, The Bourne Ultimatum, All 4 Die Hard movies, Knocked Up, Oceans 13, Fantastic Four 2, Surf's Up (never underestimate DVD sales on a kid's movie like this), Rush Hour 3, etc."
The pr0n industry WILL be the deciding factor in the hi def wars. Remember... for every family out there that is looking at getting a hi def player, daddy needs to be able to watch his pr0n....and yes, I did just buy into the HD-DVD camp. I put my money where my mouth is on rootkit-bastard hating, TYVM.
Or ask the RIAA, or the MPAA, or

If moving files with ADS in them causes problems on wista, what on earth will the rootkit writers do?

Ummmm... HDDVD has 300:

It doesn't have the Bourne Ultimatum, but it at least has The Bourne Identity... I figure "Ultimatum" is coming soon:

And I don't give a rat's ass about "Pirates 3" because HD-DVD has "Pirates":

How can I be certain that putting a PS3 on my home network won't cause a rootkit to be installed on the other devices?
