Something else to consider regarding the significance of these releases- NiN also launched an ARG called Year Zero as well, and the album is simply just part of the ARG- Reznor said "What you are now starting to experience [,the ARG,] IS 'year zero'. It's not some kind of gimmick to get you to buy a record - it IS the art form... and we're just getting started. Hope you enjoy the ride." Reznor has also called the Year Zero game "a new entertainment form."
So, they also release the individual tracks from the songs of the album, in Garage Band and other formats. Bad ass. But you know what else? This is all part of the game - some of the songs contain hidden pictures, backmasked vocals that lead to website addresses, and there's even morse code on the album.
It is expected that there will be even more hidden goodness available to us now that we can examine the individual tracks. Not only that but holy crap some of these hidden tracks are creepy- the Reaktor instrument in My Violent Heart, for example.
And the heat sensitive label freaked me out, even though I knew it was going to change... that of course revealed another code for the ARG. All the songs seem different after reading up on the ARG. And thats the thing- this album is another concept album, but instead it centers around a fictional future universe rather then being a big metaphor for Trent's own trials and tribulations. Though I'm sure some of those are mixed in too;)
Well, it'll definitely take balls. Generational transport or whatever it's called... there's a name for it.. I'll google for something else instead to make a joke.. here: Turns out it may not take balls after all!
Regret dawned after that post, as this came to mind:
"It is of course well known that careless talk costs lives, but the full scale of the problem is not always appreciated. For instance, at the very moment that Arthur said `I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle,' a freak wormhole opened up in the fabric of the space time continuum and carried his words far far back in time across almost infinite reaches of space to a distant Galaxy where strange and warlike beings were poised on the brink of frightful interstellar battle. The two opposing leaders were meeting for the last time . . . and a dreadful silence fell across the conference table as the commander of the Vl'hurgs, resplendent in his black jewelled battle shorts, gazed levelly at the G'Gugvant leader squatting opposite him in a cloud of green sweet-smelling steam, and, with a million sleek and horribly beweaponed star cruisers poised to unleash electric death at his single word of command, challenged the vile creature to take back what it had said about his mother.
The creature stirred in his sickly broiling vapour, and at that very moment, the words `I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle' drifted across the conference table. Unfortunately, in the Vl'hurg tongue this was the most dreadful insult imaginable, and there was nothing for it but to wage terrible war. Eventually of course, after their galaxy had been decimated over a few thousand years, it was realised that the whole thing had been a ghastly mistake, and so the two opposing battle fleets settled their few remaining differences in order to launch a joint attack on our Galaxy -- now positively identified as the source of the offending remark.
For thousands more years the mighty ships tore across the empty wastes of space and finally dived screaming on to the planet Earth, where, due to a terrible miscalculation of scale, the entire battle fleet was accidentally swallowed by a small dog.
Those who study the complex interplay of cause and effect in the history of the Universe say that this sort of thing is going on all the time, but are powerless to prevent it.
Never hearing of Another World is possibly because it was never an Amiga game in the US (and then it would have been called Out Of This World instead)...atleast according to Moby Games.
In middle school back when I was playing Trade Wars like it was my job my bud had an Amiga 2000 I think and promised to show me some gaming graphics that would blow my PC away. Surely I thought nothing could top Kings Quest. He showed me one of the games on this list, Shadow of the Beast- making sure to point out the parallax insanity going on. Then I thought surely if a game comes out for the PC thats ALSO on the Amiga that they will be the same.
And then I witnessed Ocean's F29 Retaliator - released on both DOS and Amiga-- one feature difference that stood out was the "rolling start" scenario where you basically jump into the air with bogies all over the sky and battlefield for you to attack. The DOS version always had the bogies starting in the same spot- but the amiga? Randomized every time. Simple things like that made me want one. Even still I played the crap out of the DOS port- playing multiplayer over the modem and eventually with a null modem cable. God bless those little buggers.
And now I can "have" an amiga thanks to emulation, but it just doesn't feel the same tho.
I *have* had some domains that I've purchased stay relatively consistent for estimates on that site in the past, so I don't know whatsup with it now. Maybe they don't like us playing with it:\
Each service has it's own features- Network Solutions, erm, solution is really just a way to make a safe transaction on a domain sale to an independent buyer, it offers an escrow service and other protections. Afternic has a similar service but they also have a nice domain name listing service where you can auction your domain like eBay. There may be others, but these are the only 2 I've had experience with, albeit from the buying side.
For your situation with this buyer I recommend to at least use Network Solutions' service to manage the transaction-- it offers protection to both you and the buyer, though there is a fee of course.
By the way, Network Solutions service also offers free domain name appraisals (Afternic has one too but charges). I don't know how much to trust it because for your domain I received values ranging over $10,000 when I first queried it on down to the $500 range later on. It seems to take into account the number of queries for a domain name? I'm not sure, but try it and see what it says now. Also, if RadicalTrust is also the name of a product or service then that price could be higher (or possible lower) then the estimated value according to Network Solutions.
If I were you I'd post it on Afternic.com for auction and tell your buyer about it. Your sure to incur some new offers from this/. article and an auction might be just the thing for your situation- if you're willing to pay the transaction fees of course:)
fyi the webcast hasn't started yet - the launch window extends from 9:37-11:42 p.m. EST. A live web cast of the launch will be available at this site. The web cast will begin approximately 20 minutes prior to the opening of the launch window.
I agree, I was a professional "webmaster" in 95. These days at a different company I still do many of the same tasks I did back then. However, nowadays I'd get irked it if someone called me a webmaster, because yes it really isn't cool anymore [that, and I do way more then just 'webmastering' as well as others pointed out before].
I wrestled with sharing it.. only because I knew it would... I dunno, encourage people to try it and then get stuck, doh- BUT I thought about how long it took me to find the meditation technique and that there might be others out there, who like I was, were toiling for years with this problem. Meditation works. You'll find a way out.
Weird how the human condition allows for these things huh? Talk about a fucking software bug.
This is interesting, assuming it's at all real, and reminds me of the idea of what happens when you become aware of your breathing and can't let it go back to involuntary mode.
Sucks when that happens.. but my secret for getting out of that is meditating and taking deep breaths, and concentrating on the breaths themselves and thinking about how each breath is a gift.. how lucky we are to be alive... etc. Now I look forward to the times where I have to take a moment to stop myself from holding back my involuntary breath, because the meditation is very peaceful.
The only reason the Leonids are getting so much love right now is because it's still famous from it's most recent peak a few years ago-- at it's peak it is the most spectacular show around, but normally the Perseids are actually the better show...

Also I fail for forgetting to turn off Karma Bonus :P
Shhhhhhhh! Nothing has changed, everything is the same. This is not broken. Time is an illusion, you know the rest.
Is it the future yet?
olo :P

Huh I didn't know Christian Slater played your namesake in the radio series. No way.

Indeed. RIP, Mr. Adams.
I say nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
Now thats what I'm talking about! "HD" quality video of this building getting shook. Unreal- when it swayed I was just like O_o

Anyone have any links or info handy on Dvorak's greatest "misses" ? Is there an anthology available anywhere?
Seriously, I want to know more...
Obligatory "you forgot to preface your post with 'obligatory' post.
Thanks for the report.

Just an excuse to link to PA. I wub them so!
As a buyer I've had good experience with buying "resold" domains both from Afternic.com and Network Solution's Certified Offer Service.

Good luck!
Seriously. I'm sick and tired of all this "300,000 copies of X have been pirated" = "300,000x$$$ lost" crap.
The parent of this post got it dead on, mod up, mod up.
Here's to the software authors who know better, may they also be the ones who earn my coin.
