Well, I use the neoware ones currently, but the firmware sucks for advanced features. It only supports some USB mass storage type devices and generally flakey at that... We want these people to be able to upload digital camera shots too.
I'll check them out, maybe give them a call tomorrow at work.
Get a networked scanner, hp makes one, and most MFPs will do it too, and set it to scan to a folder, you can even do user login and have user folders with the advanced ones... Then they walk back to the thin client, load up the client software and edit the image from there...
I know PSP9 works in a terminal server environment...
We have a client that uses thin clients themselves and have been considering a similar setup for them. Which thin clients were you using that you got that far? I would love to aquire one to test with.
Yeah, but I'm not rich, a 15" LCD is low end about $300CDN, 17" is about $500CDN. I paid $150CDN for my 21" CRT, and less then $90CDN each for my 17" screens. To be able to get the resolution/size of just my 21" would cost a huge amount(and yes I often do run at this resolution), 1800x1440 is just not too common in LCD.
If I had the cash, maybe, but I have other costs to cover.
Not saying that I wouldn't take a LCD if offered, or if the quality was there, just not willing to pay for it. (This from a guy who pays $500 for a digital camera, and another $170 for a single telephoto lens for it, I have my priorities!)
Interesting point, I had not thought there were still trivial ways to overcome these. I guess it does modify things.
But on the other hand, when dady falls asleep, little Jimmy-Bob could just steal his keys, that is in theory easier to do then duplicate a fingerprint.
I do agree with you though, it would create false security. Let's just require them on guns and still require the current security levels... ah well.
I still prefer CRTs myself. Cost and Quality, desk space is not an issue, it's not worth thousands to get an extra square foot or two of deskspace, I'll just fill it up with junk anyway.
I'll stick with my 21" Sony Trinitron, and a pair of 17" screens, thank you. Resolution is amazing, color reproduction is great, refresh rate is astronomical, and I probably glow in the dark when it get's dark.
I do not prefer my laptops screens, they just don't cut it, and even the expensive ones that we have installed at clients are still not up to my high standards. And that's probably just it, I have too high standards.
Oh well...
Totally Random: Orbital's mix of the Doctor Who theme is amazing, grab a clip off the net(my last download from suprnova) or better yet, buy the CD! I did, who says file sharing makes you buy less, I never would have bought this if I had not downloaded it first...
Wouldn't tech like that work almost as well in the gun itself? It's probably physically very small as it added almost no size to the ipaqs its in. Just build the gun with a safety, and a fingerprint reader to allow you to shoot.
Keeps more people happy, gun nuts can own their weapons, and not have little jimmy-bob shoot his friend while showing off, and the less extreem anti-gun people will have one less thing to complain about.
For the record, I'm against gun ownership for anything other then hunting. Make possesion of any firearm a major offense and you can deal with the people who might use them...(not the whole philosophy, but that's for another debate)
I worked consumer support at Compaq when HP moved in... boy was that entertaining! Everything is billable, even when it's covered by the warranty!
And then they laid us off, and did not even replace us with people in India. If you increase the hold time, people just hang up and solve it elsewhere...
They don't spam, that's for sure. I use a unique address for every e-mail address I give out, and the one I gave openoffice has not been one of my spammed entries.
We resell Veritas on every major server we build, and when I mentioned the aquisition this morning the comment from everyone was effectivly "I guess we will need to find new backup software to sell with our servers." It wasn't even a thought, we just don't want to deal with symantec.
So true, and a lot of the later wonka stuff seems to parallel the good Doctor as well... I remember things sketchily from reading the books, but does he not do things like visit earth orbiting space stations? I always envisioned it the same way they show the space stations in some episodes of Dr. Who.
Me and my homies prefer the term Geek to Nerd. Calling someone a Nerd is more of an insult, while Geek is a compliment.
Nerd, for us, has the connotation that you wear bad clothers, never get out of youir house(except maybe to work) and never had a GF...
Geek, on the other hand, knows how to do everything a nerd can, but has a life. eg. Me and some of my "homies" (I so don't use that word) are headed out to catch a concert tonight.(Great Big Sea for those in ottawa, there are still tickets).
They have a Gigapixel setup, and they like to take artistic pictures... way better then a random skyline.
Just view the image gallery... The first shot looks like anything you would get on todays digitals... Then they zoom in to read the small text on a wall 100 yards away!!!
And I thought it took patience to wait for a 16Meg SLR to be consumer priced, this will take forever...
Let the individual states run the elections if they want, but have the Federal governement set the rules.
It works up here in Canada. We have been laughing our asses off at how the US runs an election for the past 4 years, and this time was no exception. When I voted, I had not been registered, I walked into the voting hall, handed them some ID, and they let me vote. No provisional ballot, nothing weird, I just voted and put it in the same box as everyone else.
And to vote, I have a single piece of paper with all the names in that race listed. I put an X (or any mark) in the space next to the name and that's it. If I mark more then one, it is a spoiled ballot.
It boils down to, I put an X next to who I want on a piece of paper.
How much harder does it have to be. We may have to wait a little longer to get the official counts, but we at least are sure it counted, and I know my vote was counted.
One of the things on my list of pictures to get on my new camera included Norther Lights(lightning and shooting stars are on that list still). Last night over ottawa we had a reasonable show, not too much sheeting, but good sky coverage(about 30%), green generally and some red. I got about 7 or 8 good shots with a 10 - 15 second exposure(looks better then real life). I'd post them, but I'd prefer not to liquify my server...
I just happened to be updating my resume again, decided to make it XML based and found the xml resume library on sourceforge (xmlresume.sourceforge.net)
One of their XSLT transforms the XML to a PDF file, maybe that would be a good place to look. I only found this today, and since I'm only just learning XML, I don't know how well this applies... Enjoy!
It is not "quirky"! It's a great way to waste time at the office when the boss is at a meeting, and usefull in running the battery down on my cell phone. I want more toys that use an interface like this. Could you image a set of bluetooth remote control interfaces that would work with any toy? Linux geeks would be writing cool apps to control whole convoys of the things, and you would never have to worry about losing the remote again... Wait! This would be a good idea for TV's and other CE too... arg, brain off track...
Anyway... I like my CAR100.

Now back to your regularly scheduled OT discussion.
I don't make the rules, I just follow them... (And I have recomended we change this, and why). But I do understand the reason this situation exists: We usually go into a client that has grown from a small business into a medium business and their old peer to peer network just cannot cut it any more. Install a SBS2003 server as a domain controller and mail/file server and join everyone to the domain with their old computer. By using the tools built into SBS2003, this is insanely easy to do, and it will import the users profile to the domain controller. The default in this situation is for the user that is being imported to be set as local admin.
Have you tried Win2K3's tools for joining the domain? It asks you which of the current users should be setup as a local system admin(usually to allow installing software). This is how it is designed to work! Usually we only have one user on each machine, and so they get the admin rights locally on it. This basically means that a script like the ones mentioned would work fine, even on a domain.

HTF is that -1 redundant? There is not one question in the entire thread asking that, I seriously want to know. It sounds rather interesting.

Anyone know where I can find one of those lakes?
Preferably in north america?
Googling it only finds one reference to some bays in puerto rico...

The worst part is, at my company of about 15 people, we had an ex-olympic vollyball team member and still have an ex-olympic fencer...

Can't do anything on their site without shockwave, if that's zero install, then I don't care to use it... Someone port wxWidgets to dHTML...
