    There was a reasonably large argument over there about actually distributing it, but in the end a full seed was completed.

    And no I have not watched it, yet.

    The argument really did center around - would geeks watch it - or just download it and not support it. If there is no support for the series, then it will not continue being produced.

    Counter arguments included: I will watch and pay for it anyway, I'm such a big fan - almost my opinion.

    It's not scheduled here - I need my fix - usually americans...

    Anyway, I think I will like it, and if I can catch it on TV, at a reasonable time - I will watch it.

    For now - I have my fix if I need it.

    They are not new up here in Canada, my brother lights his whole house that way, and has for a while. But they have just hit a price point where they are brutally cheap to install, I had a bulb go the other day, and just decided to replace all the bulbs in that track light with compacts. And the current ones don't even have a noticable delay on startup, they just are one(but not full brightness for a few seconds - I love that in the morning, helps me adjust)

    I also turned off my cluster when I'm not using it - I just need to get around to writing a script to halt the cluster when distcc is done running for the night...

    My car is reasonably good at fuel consumption - about $35CDN/week for gas, and I drive 52Km to work each day.

    Anyone know if the US law would cover a small, indipendent, Canadian company that has no US presence, shipping un-flagged equipment into the US?

    I'm sure we could find room for people like the guy in the article who makes cards for hdtv tuning that currently lives in the states.

    Besides, I don't have the money or the channel list to warrant a HDTV purchase right now, but I will want it in the future to replace my current tuner.

    Does it work in a native amd64 environment?

    I've just gotten wine cross compiled(as all windows binaries are 32 bit) and the only major tool left for my system is openoffice, but 1.x does not like 64 bits aparently(according to everyone in the gentoo forums who has tried).

    So, anyone know if it works?

    O, dear god! That would be absolutly hilarious!

    If there is a key that stops windows updates, and a worm uses a new flaw to get around, then it can wait a week, set the key and watch how the new windows patch refuses to install.

    I just know that the next couple of worms will decide to see what happens if they do this.

    Of course, AV vendors will catch on quickly, and I've never run Norton on my copy of wine...

    You kidding? Booze is part of the office!

    The beer is chilling in the fridge and when the clock hits 5-0 it's not unknown for people to crack open a cold one.

    Then there was the client we were at the other month on an install - beer, ontap at a 50 foot bar, 24/7

    If they were out of beer, this was an emergency and the CEO made sure it was taken care of immediatly.

    Strangly enough, this place also had some of the coolest cubes I'd seen in a while: the hawaii cube, the DJ cube(tonne's of music) etc...

    I almost started work as a telemarketer - then ran from the building screaming!!!(well not screaming, but I did run...) /me needed work, money was short:
    so I decided to see how bad it would be, they promised 1 week of paid training before we hit the phones - and had people on within 3 days.

    I never made a sales call, but listened in on a huge number of them. Wow. It's not that the job is hard, it's that the people on the other end are harsh, and the only good telemarketers are actually quite evil, even in real life.

    Most of them are just people who need a job, plenty from various places around the world, so they had a variaty of accents.

    I never would have survived at that job, I just cannot be the type who knowingly targets people to get their money.

    Anyway... I learned a few tricks, and realized how pathetic they run the place from that.(Dos app running in a locked/stripped down win98 - phone and app login was our SIN#(~SSN#) and over 50% of calls never reached a person - just answering systems)

    I do agree, I like having a dedicated server, but I route all my mail through my linode, and having a second system and seperate datacenter/ip range allows me to have some stability for secondary MX and DNS server setup.

    If you want reliability, hop over to netcraft.com and check their list of most reliable hosting providers. Then just get some hosting from them.

    Cheap, but with control, try something that gives you shell/root access. I would recommend serverpronto.com (29.95/month dedicated servers) but their ip range is in a globally spam blocked range - almost no one will get your mail. Otherwise I recommend linode - no spam issues, and scalable usage options.

    Of course this is based on the assumption that you are willing to setup your own mail server - if not, well many of the other messages here should help some.

    This seems to be th gist of most posts - just work around it. But most some current laptops, I've seen it in Toshibas(as that's what we sell), have a simple key combo to disable it. I've even run into a compaq with that option.

    It's usually just an extended fn key like those for volume and brightness.
    And as I literally just got my alps touchpad working(just really tried for the first time), I also could say that under linux, you could just not enable the thing - heck, there is a command in the xorg.conf file to disable it.

    Why make life harder, when there are simple solutions.

    Anyway... My system is a Eurocom, and does Not have a disable switch.

    My brother is visiting for the weekend, and has tried to convince me that he has first hand experience with MS Anti-Spyware removing IE... sure you do...

    I've been testing it on systems at work since the day it was first released, and, while it works great, it has never, and probably will never, remove IE. If he's going to lie, he should really know better then to quote an article I know is satire.

    My previous vehicle was a Jeep truck, some ancient vintage... And it was all original except a tonne of bondo in the body. It's currently a field truck, it still runs, just could never pass an emissions test round here. No muffler, a leak in the gas line is plugged with the first stick we could get our hands on...

    I'll stick with what I have, it suck, but it works. And now with the added bonus of no virus!(It's like the linux of cars! _joke_ )

    Well, I went with before major computer systems were installed in systems...

    a '93 eagle, it does have some electronics, but nothing your going to infect vio bluetooth, except maybe the very aftermarket mp3 player...(I wish I'd thought to get a bluetooth enabled player!)

    I also agree, that you will have issues with old parts. I'm on my 2nd engine, 3 alternator(or rebuild), 2nd battery, 2nd catalytic converter, 300th set of belts(tensioner is not working right on it) and the right hand windwhield wiper does not actually clear the windows properly...

    But it drives, and the last shop I had it in tweaked the engine(brushless, mitsubishi engine) to get a little more performance out of it.(I have a heavy accelerator, once got pulled over for excessive acceleration - by a copy on a bike, I don't speed that badly).

    Anyway, just my 2c on that comment.

    I thought the same thing when I read the line...

    Python - works fine on linux
    SDL - works too

    SDL bindings in Python - I've not tried these, but gosh darn it, I'm pretty sure they work too.

    Anyway...

    $50 says it shows up in Gentoo within 1 week of first RC.

    And I'll get back to my regularly scheduled "emerge kde"

    That's probably the plan, just with the manufacturer there was not an option of going with anything but Intel for the wireless.

    I personall prefer prism, mainly because of the hostap drivers(which I use in my linux based router system).

    For christmas one of my geeks gave me a 7 drive SCSI CD jukebox(one that uses trays, but came with all 7 trays). The machine that I have been intending to turn into my audio jukebox just happens to have the proper SCSI card in it to interface with this thing.

    Along with a spare SB Live Platinum...

    Anyway, I used to just run a VNC server exactly sized to fit a XMMS window with a short playlist windows also. Just connect from any system to control audio. Shared servers allow control from multiple servers.

    Nope, but there are AMD64 laptops with Intel Wireless cards in them... Believe me, I have one.

    Why someone would decide to build it that way is beyond me, I assume price. But it just does not work in linux for me, and there is no hint of winxp64 drivers last I checked...

    I'm thinking that I will probably replace the miniPCI card wireless with a card based on a prism or similar chipset, probably something that supports running in AP mode for then I want to be my own access point.

    Anyone want a used IPW2200BG?

    But will the 1.0 version support AMD64 laptops fully? Some work, some don't, unfortunatly mine does not work with the drivers.

    Yes, but those are aparently written mostly by intel and use an intel firmware. These drivers are still buggy on AMD64 based laptops running 64 bit kernels(not everyone has problems, but enough of them do, including me).

    Yeah, now if only they could get the drivers to work reliably with AMD64 systems... My laptop refuses to load the firmware properly with a dmawaittimeout(I think that's it) every time it tries to.

    The wireless and the alps touchpad are the only things stopping my from ditching windows completely on that thing(and games, but that's only at lan parties anyway). And the alps touchpad probably just needs me to spend some more time on it to solve.

    And the reason I would love to hack the firmware on my A80 would be to allow me to use RAW images with it. It mentions them in the manual, and the software supports it, but there is no option to save as RAW that I have found anywhere in the camera or online...

    Hell, even in the first version, top down view, I would see how many cars I could pile up and then get the multiple explosion bonus(exponential too) when I took one out... Man I got some high scores from that.

    Anyway, I've not actually played any version since.
