The GP poster mentioned the fact that the body is filled with a salt water solution. An excelent conductor. Chances are that if there is lighting, there is rain (there are plenty of cases contrary to this, like volcanic eruptions, but lightning is on a long list of problems there). The rain gets you and your clothes wet. Perhaps the lightning "flashes over" your clothes somewhat like a wick on a candle doesn't burn, but the wax does. So the lightning doesn't actaully touch you... Just a thought. I'm not a doctor or an EE or a physisist (or a great speller).

I don't have countless hours to teach myself how to use a different OS (although I'm comfortable in OSX), although I do have the ability to learn it. It requires a time investment on my part to figure out how to install/use a new system. And on top of that I have to find out if I will even get any use out of it. I don't have a high-speed connection at home or even a phone line so I can't very well read up on it.

This coming from someone who could easily pick up a new OS given time. So, I'm what? Part of 2% of Windows users with the ability to learn a *nix system or otherwise. Just my 2 cents.

We've gotten our check and paid it long before, but we still drink the bottomless cup. Heck, I went to Baker's Square with a good friend and we both brought brand new 200+ piece Lego sets to put together. We spend 10 bucks between the two of us and sit there for three hours. If they ask us to leave, no problem, but at least we spent some money, and tipped the server. (there was a sign prohibiting board games and other activities the next time we went in, it was in the front for about a year)

You'd never get away with just sitting down, reading the paper, typing a report, but not ordering in a restuarant/coffee shop. They'd throw you out. I'd throw you out.

Maybe it's just the Minnesota Nice in me, but there's a pretty easy way to see if you're imposing. Look around. It is busy? Is the waitstaff giving you dirty looks? Does you butt hurt because you've been sitting on that bench for hours? I'd say no more than half an hour in a busy bistro, but two or three hours if you're obviously not in the way... or the third time the server asks, "Can I get you anything else?"

I don't know how busy this place got, but the parking lot is for customers, and if he wasn't sitting in his car for hours at a time, he would have been towed. Then there's the fact that this is obviously his primary use of the internet and he's not even supporting the company. So he may not have affected anyone elses surfing or parking, but he's in the way regaurdless. It's just indescent. I know I use coffee shop wifi all the time. But I'll always have coffee or something when I'm there.

Now I am going to say they should have kicked him out after a few days of parking in the lot for hours and not buying anything. Not three months.

The XP firewall is off and I've told XP that I have my own anti-virus so it will shut up. The only reason I've got spybot running is I don't like spyware, and it isn't filled with code-bloated uselessness like McAfee or Norton. No, sirs and madams of the antivirus community, I like my processors doing what I tell them to all the time. The first engine would burn out after a few laps, but get them close to the pole position and the second would last the whole race. NASCAR stopped them because teams that had a lot of money (IE big sponsors) could afford these "super-duper" engines and the other teams were stuck with their pace engines for the qualifying.

Simply stated, it would be unfair on the grounds of competition to allow richer schools to buy the super engines. Perhaps putting a spending limit on the project would achieve the results you spoke of. Either way, these experimenal companies are very likely watching for new brains and talent. I've been trying to keep people educated about the new generation of systems vs. the old. Sometimes it's funny, other times I want to call it pathetic. I was exitedly talking about Red Steel and Warhawk. Both look amazing, but I can only afford one. One guy said to me, "That new Nintendo is supposed to be almost as powerful as the first XBox, it's going to be a piece of junk." I asked if he had a minute or two for a quick demo. We were in a coffee shop and I had my laptop.

I typically keep preview movies on my HDD for way too long. I loaded up something I had used to show the graphical difference between Spiderman 2 as it was made by the same dev house for all three "last-gen" systems. A friend of mine had spliced them together to run simultaneously. The scenes weren't the same, but the effect was there.

This guy isn't a gamer. He's played a lot of Halo, though. I achieved the desired effect, he was unable to distinguish between the XBox and GC versions, but pointed at the PS2 version saying that it was the worst looking. I didn't tell him why there were three screens. But clarified that the other two were the non-PS2 and showed him the XBox was a bit better as there was an increased draw distance. The guy was taken aback. He still isn't a gamer, but someone's gotta clear this stuff up!
