    Well, I agree in a way. The Genie is out of the bottle. But when we abandoned public transport form the '60s onwards (in the UK at least), we started down the slippery slope to clogged motorways, pollution and the like, largely because we can stand spending a few minutes sharing a public space with our fellows. An oversimplification for sure, but I think there's more than little truth there.

    I agree, but I've seen them applied to things with no internal batteries - in that case it's curtains if they pull out.

    I read this that the new connector would be truly reversible - perfectly possible with a full wave rectifier to guarantee correct polarity - though the forward volt drop ~ 1.2V for two diodes implies a switching regulated after the regulator if 5V is required.

    I agree. I'm hanging on to my Dell M4300 because the screen resolution is good, and it supports a second (external) monitor. May be forced when XP support ends next year and I have to upgrade (company policy)

    I would guess data generated in each run is stored to disk, then copied to tape for analysis elsewhere, freeing up disk space for the next experiment.
