In the army (swiss army, btw) i was teached as a "Minenzeichner". My task was to plan the layout of minefields. (Of course, only antitank mines are used). The location of every single mine is registered on a map. Our mines self-deactivate after a certain time. When it is deactivated, it pushes out an antenna which can be seen from a few meters away. This makes it easier to find it. If a mine does not self-deactivate properly, no antenna goes up. With a little help from the map, these mines can be spotted and manually deactivated.
It is completely safe to handle active antitank mines since they only react on very large metallic structures.
ok, you're right with the OS, however, it still is some stupid analyst who told this... And he is somewhat right that linux does not provide protection against spyware. Spyware usually is installed in addition to some obscure program the user wants (and gives root access to the installer).
um, Microsoft doesn't equate Free software with spyware... Some analyst does... And he didn't mention OSS, just freeware. To some extent i agree with him.
AutoCad? Get something real. As another one already pointed out, Pro/E has a linux version (they have this for a long time). I have a version of Wildfire1 on my linux install and it works quite fine. As for Unigraphics, i don't trust their press releases. They are working on a linux version for some years now... Dassault has a hard time maintaining CATIA on windows, so i don't see a port anytime soon.
I don't know about the mid-range systems (SolidWorks, SolidEdge etc..)
Another problem comes with the graphic card drivers. CAD users and vendors like to have certified drivers...

As always, we can do better ;-)
Shell Eco-marathon teams from across Europe continue to chase Swiss record (PDF)
However, the vehicle used a fuel cell. Several friends of mine were in the project team and a lot of money went into that project.
Shell provided a conversion factor between Hydrogen and Gas. They used the equivalent of 1 liter gasoline for a distance of 5385 kilometers.

Sir, i think your humour-o-meter is broken.... get it fixed

Easy.
Insert a delay of one second between two "knocking" attempts. After 3 failed attempts, block any attempt for 1 minute or so.
That's how most password based authorization mechanisms work.
Ok, you're right, there are fields where AutoCAD is a good solution. I was only thinking of mechanical engineering.
I thought, ESRI dominated the GIS market completely...

They've stopped producing their slide projectors.
Their Ektapro and Carousel series were some of the best on the market.
I see a lot of planetariums will have problems, because at the moment it's almost impossible to replace them with digital projectors.
