Nice to see a linux hack getting some attention for a change, instead of the usual MS bashing.
sendmail != GNU/Linux.
...and i hope the GNU/Linux bash -- subtle as it wanted to be -- wasnt missed by the slashdotters... Isnt a little strange do some bashing while complaining about the "usual bashing"?
slow down a second. I wont be drawn into a relativist argument that Palestinians are not treated poorly because someone-else was treated worse.
Nor am I saying they are blameless - im saying that isreal's treatment of Palestinians is terrible.
there are thousands of misdeads every year the world over, from shooting protesters with Rubber Bullets and tear gas to slit throats to the War on Some Drugs, to economic exploitation by capitalists, to %your-favorite-social-injustice%.
I completely agree. Isreal is treating Palestinians as the USA once treated Africans... worse even. How the champion of Liberty -- as embodied in their Constitution not the Plutocratic-Fascism that the USofA has become -- can support Isreal is VERY telling of how far they've gone from the ideas that they fought a revolution for...
Better than buying them (costing me $) and smashing them, couldnt i goto ToysRus with a tiny gauss gun or somthing up my sleeve (magnet) and zap all the lovely HDs on the Xboxes? could you fry the harddrive on teh xbox to the point where it wouldnt run?
if i did this it would A) cost ToyRUs to return/handle etc, reducing profits on Xbox, making ToysRUs un-favourable to MS consoles B) cost M$ money because they have to handle returns etc C) Give xbox a black eye to gamers who would see xbox as crappy (defective) hardware, dropping sales
this has been my little fantasy for some time - can anyone tell me if it is at all possible?
Beliving that a Jewish State should not exist is not the same as being prejudiced or against people solely on their religion.
This is slightly OT, but i would like to make this point. I am 100% against the idea that ANY religion should/could be involved in governing any nation - I am not simply an advocate of secular governance - I belive that MY OWN SECULAR GOVERNMENT (in this case Canada) should not have relations (other than to advocate the end of Religious-Rule) with any Non-Secular state; Isreal or any other. Religion, being a matter of mythos of a local geography is no way to govern ones-self. To legitimize fairy-tales preached by Jews, Christians, Hindus or Muslims is ultimately counter productive. If Non-Secular states, in this case Isreal, cannot discover Liberty and Enlightenment enough to assume responsibility for ones own community -- as opposed to letting the will of The One True Lord(TM) govern them -- then I dont believe they deserve a place in the discussions of the modern world.
So, to conclude - People who believe that the Isreali state sucks ass (simply) dont necessarily have a particular dislike for Jews - the two issues are different. If a bigot (nazi) also happens to hold negative views of Isreal's nonsecular nature it is a seperate issue..
Further (i can smell the OT coming;) ) I personally believe ALL RELIGION in ALL FORMS sucks ass (simply - you dont want me to ramble too much do you?) - ALL religion shouldnt be supported by the state, as in grants to non-secular groups, tax breaks, property-tax-free properties, relations with their 'leaders' etc etc etc.
the XBox is losing money a littler longer then the other two, but it's still very typical for the industry.
do you have any proof of this? other than the industry-types who make this assertion to make people buying the consoles in the first place feel like they are getting a good deal? I dont believe - not for a second - that all three are taking a loss on their consoles. Not for a goddamn second.
Sony is not "so friggin cool" its disposable-trash.
Sony has managed to fool americans into believing its stuff is 1st tier, in Japan, Sony's home, they are regarded (quite rightly) as being second-level kit.
Ive always ditested Sony's product... its unfortunate that they muscled Sega out of consoles... but other than that, there are MORE than enough 1st tier competitors for you to be able to avoid their crap.
First they came for the %A; I wasnt a %A so I didnt care; Then they came for the %B; I wasnt a %B so I didnt care; Then they came for the me; but there was nobody left to care.
because Democrats have been trying to bury that amendment for years too.
Except that it is the Present ArchConservative administration - not those vile leftists...
Further, regarding your 2nd amendment; " A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
if you are not a member of a militia - and a well regulated one at that -- it says nothing of allowing you gun ownership.
Really, gun-advocates should be sent back to Reading Comprehension 101... If you read it slowley you'll understand the meaning of that sentance.
that it is providing terrorists with a means to communicate.
And the FARC has been found to be "Terrorists" in what US Court? Oh I forgot, adding someone to the list of Enemies of the State means that they no longer have rights.. I forgot.
What is that I hear? Yankee Civil Liberties slidding quickly down a slippery slope?
You know what, Id agree that it is alot of effort - maybe too much.
this Faq, and light shed upon it is Good though.
GNU/Linux, and RMS' desire to have it named such, first by those "in the know" (us) will help it spread to those "not in the know" (them);)
i think that is really the point - not this percieved ego fit most see it as...
as for why he's in such a tizzy over it? Im not sure, im sure he knows the improtance of specific language and what happens when you are lax with language -- in light of today's 15 second sound byte.
doing anything to enhance its *brand* is too much... didnt anyone ever tell you brands are fiction? KDE/Gnome are technology, code and frameworks; "brand" has no value in this discussion.
What are you talking about? did you read the FAQ? He is talking about education - to include GNU is to associate the ideals of Free Software with Linux.. its about 'mindshare' its about making sure people understand the Moral and Social issues.
i know talking about "Ideals" and "Morals" is foreign to some people, that they American Public Discourse excludes them. But really, what is so hard to understand about RMS wanting to assure people receive the Free Software Foundations' motivations when they talk about GNU/Linux.
This issues isnt about "who gets credit" -- and some people w/ opinions similar to yours believs its an RMS ego issue -- if you read his salient and lucid writing on the topic (like maybe the article above) he clearly states his purpose. No one has reason to believe RMS is petty and arrogant, dont mistake his sense of purpose and determination for greed/hubris... it may be foriegn to many, but not everyone is solely concerned for Themselves.
as always, I found RMS to be quite clear in his writing - and I cant agree with him more about the necessity for GNU/Linux, lest we forget what the situation was like BEFORE GNU.
Ive got a little box I run in the living room - this seems very usefull. With an IM client of some kind, this would be great - browse my home-intranet, send/recieve emails / IM etc... and it looks cool.
only problem is it "requires" RH - what are the REAL requirements? the bare actual libs etc that it needs?
Id hate to have to do a whole RH install (w/ SysV init etc) just to drop into this GUI...
Darwin is of no greater use than any other BSD - the REAL product of OSX is still VERY CLOSED AND GUARDED.
im tired of hearing how Apple is a Free Software, or even open source hero - they are not, there taking BSD, slapping on a GUI and running with it... it would be stealing except that BSD (license-advocates (it seems)) likes to subsidize development costs for Massive-For-Profit Companies.. why, I have no idea.
However, before we send them computers, we should first...ask them what they need. This is generally regarded as one of the West's major errors w/ "Aid" - you should help, not try implement a model of yourself somewhere you believe needs help.
I believe CoOperation is more efficient, but hey, i guess its a matter of opinion.

my apologies for the Terrible paraphrase.
can anyone correct me... and provide credit?
Hey, poop doesnt smell like the Cosmetics Isle at the DrugStore.
Its Victorian Puritanism alive and well in 2002 USA!
I love it

Hey, I think Nader tried to tell you Yanks that the Democrats were The Republicans were The Democrats.
Really, USA has the least vibrant Western 'Democracy' on the planet.

what are you saying?
Not that I would cry if the group of people this linked to in Columbia just disappeared in the night, or got a 5 kiloton enema
So, defending the free speach rights of Yankees is more just than summarily executing Columbian Revolutionaries?
interesting perspective...

Id consider OSX if it wasnt Proprietary, Non-Free software. Sure the kit has its merits, but I cant see getting fooled again...
You know what, Id agree that it is alot of effort - maybe too much.

except aqua that is...
Apple is using *BSD and Opensource like MS used BSD's tcp/ip... dont get fooled again.

Could your hubris be any more severe?
Im sorry, Im Canadain... we have no "second and tenth amendments" nor do people from ecuador... I guess your point is moot.
