Although the article was very thin on details, I thought that it was worthwhile. It put a new spin on things because the list dealt with who was currently influential, rather than trotting out the old names that we've seen on lists like this for the last fifteen years. I realized after reading the article that I just don't care that much, though. Good thing they chose corporate types to put together this list, since they'll get a charge out of reading it.
Yahoo worked fine for me before Google. I think you give it more credit than it deserves. The downside of Yahoo was its advertising and clutter. The searching part worked fine.
I felt like NBA Ballers (at least the first one) had a lot of the same spirit of NBA Jam. It had a lot of fast play and tons of jams. Check it out, if you haven't done so yet.
I've got this really stable, version 1.0 "Hello World" application. Want it to have flashing colored letters? Send $10 to thanks@suckers.com. I promise the proceeds will go directly to a 12 pack.
Fuck the cops. Get a subpoena and we'll talk. Look, in this instance the cops might have needed the information to help a troubled old man. But I used to work for a CLEC (phone company for the layman) and there were plenty of times where the cops wanted information and acted surprised that we didn't just hand it over. There are laws dictating how this sort of thing is meant to be done. If everyone followed them, things would run smoothly.
I first started seeing this in Facebook. It was getting pretty annoying to have to close out a frame in order to see the web page at the full size of my browser window. Hopefully, these companies that do this realize that it just irritates people and doesn't improve the visitors' experience.
Unless you like the punk channel or Backspin, then you're screwed. I'm still a little bitter about that channel update. I'm getting used to the changes though.
Naturally, I didn't read the article, but I have to say I'm intrigued by this. It would come in extremely handy for radio stations if they no longer needed to have a delay on their live broadcasts. It would especially benefit college radio stations because they often have to limit what they can allow on air since they cannot afford the equipment that is required to have a delay. Although this technology might be very expensive as well, so who knows. I guess I ought to swallow my pride and read the article!
I've got a question that I've wondered about for a while. Maybe someone on Slashdot can answer it for me. Is it possible to use an XBox 360's Rock Band guitar controller on a PS3? I know it doesn't work the other way around because of the XBox's nonstandard USB system, but I'm hoping that maybe the Playstation just ignores the added junk. Anyone tried this?
God forbid Microsoft take responsibility to provide support to their own products. Sometimes tech support is saddled with responsibilities they haven't been fully prepared for. It's a fact of life. Why blame the OP for a mistake that is Microsoft's? You have to admit that hitting Alt is nowhere near clearly documented.
I've been sticking with dial-up service because high speed Internet's too much money for me. It's an added monthly fee that I just don't need. I can make do with dial-up. Turn off graphics and Flash and most web pages load just fine on a 56K dial-up connection. I just download patches for my Mac while I'm at work. I don't have a cell phone or cable TV either. I think I was just raised frugally.
Another move for that Simcity copy protection that worked alright was setting the copier's contrast level all the way up. Make a photocopy, and then make a copy of the copy at the same settings. That was fairly legible. That's how my neighborhood handled it!
And of course, it's actually just Intel-based Macs. So my two-year-old G5 is completely overlooked yet again. If I had an Intel Mac, I'd just put Windows on a partition. Kind of pointless, if you ask me. Not every Mac user buys a new computer every time Apple comes out with a new product line.
That's the reason that I'm given whenever I ask about this at work. I was told that while it would be easy to forge the signature or use one from another document, doing this would be considered fraud and that is enough of a deterrent for most people.
That's what I use Cover Flow for. It's great if you have a bunch of pictures and you want to find a particular one without opening every picture to check and see if it's the right one. I suppose I could use icon view and set the icon size really large, but it's more efficient for me to switch to cover flow, maximize the window, and flip through until I find it. I have a bunch of screenshots that I use at work and I find that I am fastest at finding the relevant screenshot if I use Cover Flow.

Come on. With that many mentions of ODB in the summary, I'm surprised it's not ALL references to Big Baby Jesus.
I agree. If I could get TiVo to control my satellite receiver, I'd be back using it again. Dish Network's DVR is crap compared to TiVo.
You haven't seen his girlfriend.

I was thinking the same thing! Proofreading is a lost art these days.

Well said. That's probably one of the most succinct posts I've seen on Slashdot.

I like how they included the t-shirt sizes next to each entrant. They skew a bit toward the Large and X-Large sizes. Very logical.
Easy. Make a pile, buy some gasoline, and have a bonfire. That's what I do. It works great. Then I bury the ashes and unburned metal.

In the words of Beavis and Butt-Head: "Just because one thing's cool doesn't mean another thing doesn't suck."

This is the funniest comment I've read on Slashdot in a while. Thanks for brightening up my morning!

Very nice analogy! I chuckled after reading that. I couldn't decide on whether to mod you funny or insightful, so I had to do neither and post.
