i got niced up for the interview at my current job, and kinda got the idea that there was a dress code. on my first day, i dressed nicely, then found that comfort is king. so now i'm in the shirt i slept in, corduroy pants and sandals:).
having to dress a certain way or being comfortable definitely affects one's job performance and satisfaction, i think...
the original poster obviously didn't know what a poll was, or was pretending so. i wasn't questioning the source or motive of the poll, just clarifying the meaning of the word.
Poll: A survey of the public or of a sample of public opinion to acquire information.
i really don't understand what is so difficult about installing gentoo. you follow the instructions and type the commands, and wait. if there's a problem, look on the forums. easy.
i am using a gentoo 1.4b system at home, gcc version 3.2 2002-07-26 (prerelease), optimized for athlon. so far, mostly good. there was a hitch compiling Xfree86, but was easily fixed.
a few things don't work, but i like it so far. kde is a bit quicker (opinion, i don't have anything to back that up with) and the system seems pretty stable, w/ no crashes thus far, and most everything built with -O3.
...and continuing on this note, what about installations with unsecured WAP's (many)? it's possible that someone could just hide a small system with a wireless iface in some inconspicuous place. all it needs is the juice.
precisely. and i get modded to flamebait. did i say anything *bad* about debian? no. so now even recommending another distro over it is cause for concern, i guess...
you keep telling yourself that. "microsoft may have access to my email and personal information, but they'd never share that with the government, if they asked" never.

Ah... You must be one of those people who thinks that a manual transmission is a bad thing in an automobile.
you know, i was one of those people until my van (automatic) bit the big one....i replaced it, at least for now with a $175 manual toyota truck - and i'm really enjoying it!
maybe we vegetarians are just smarter to begin with.... :)
mod parent up. slashbots are modding people down for pointing out failings in the editoral staff.
if you wanna be accepted as a "real" news source, get used to criticism.

I've been blaming PHP for the fact that I haven't gotten around to learning much of Perl...
:)
save yourself the trouble and just learn Python

That implies they asked every american, and noone asked ME.
a poll is a sample representative of a larger group, such as americans in general. duh...
gentoo? :) okay, okay...i know what you're talking about
a linux version of winamp?
mod this up, even tho i'm gonna get modded down for saying so.

you obviously didn't read the entire article, and neither did the moderators. go back, read the article, and then post.
i guess that means it's Hammer Time!
but i'm just "too proud" to go from IT to making someone's food. it would disturb me, cuz i'd always feel that i'm doing less than i'm capable of.
anyone else get that?
goddammit, like this
not anymore. there are signs up around here like this
i had gentoo ports available as soon as i wanted them. expect debian packages when kde4 is ready to ship.
hey, i live in the sticks *and* have dsl...
cut and paste wouldn't be very useful then, would it? i don't know much about win32 api, just assuming here...

you could dump debian and use gentoo
