i'm not telling anyone to run everything as root all the time, but:
for a desktop system, how about just being in the root group, and make certain fs areas (system fonts, printers, etc - things a desktop user might wanna play with) group writeable?
of course it's less secure, but i see it as better than being root all the time
same here, and i'd sure as hell (with current tech) rather be reading a wood pulp format book than a digital book anyday. after you destroy all of those books in order to scan them, what will you have to take to the shitter with you? think.
why can't they just use an already widely used gui library rather than fucking everything up with some crap built in (and adding what, ~20MB to the download)?
SOL = shit outta luck (if you want it to look decent)
And yes, I do remember ST:TOS's episode #22, "The Return of the Archons". But the french movie was even more sinister, because the makers pointed out the *political* aspect of this.
i see the phrase "the people" to be collective, as in "the people of america", not individualy. of course i may be wrong. i'm not for repealing the 2nd amendment in any way; to do so would make us all wonder when they'll start doing away with the other ones (like the first).
however, just as the 1st is limited, i think the 2nd should be as well.
i sorta agree on the dreamweaver thing - dont get me wrong, i generally write all of my html with quanta or kate, but having dreamweaver around for graphically setting upt big tables saves me time
yes, but the fact that i receieved the email i sent through itdoes make it an open relay:)

you're right, it sure is a word - maybe michael should take note of that
i really hate the phrase "me thinks".

just my 2c
i'm sure you meant
emacs - tie your fingers in knots
it works without javascript on in konqi, however you miss some features, er and a lot of browser crashing javascript alerts
i use gentoo too - but i've found the 2.4.19 kernel to be crappier than the one i'm using. try 2.4.17 with preempt, it's speedy! (for me)
maybe if they'd just cut the war on drugs down and disband the DEA, we'd have enough to go to mars (and more).
they're running an open relay too. i don't think i need to tell you what to do now :)

no, they had christianity to do their mindless herding for them...

hell yes, best TOS episode ever...
qmail + qmail-scanner + H+BEDV AntiVir (free for nonprofits) = no klez (or sircam, etc)
that's my solution
i had one of those too, but it started shooting sparks out at me after it received some smoke damage from a house fire. you've been warned.
:)
oh, and i never could get it to work w/linux.
my point is, that you (and everyone else) should and do not have an absolute right to own a gun.

my 2c, and sorry for calling you a gun nut.
*personal* gun ownership is NOT a civil right, reread that amendment, you gun nut.
the lovely little freebsd songs on your site almost make me want to install it again....
;)
almost
who knows, maybe i will

great idea, i agree...but, as for getting every other developer in the world, each with his own idea of an "ideal" config setup, fat chance
just try switching sendmail.cf over...whew!
i've been using kmail for months with no problems at all. could you elaborate on why kmail doesn't "support itself", please?
