Ah, in the US we add bittering-agent to anti-freeze so children and animals don't drink it. My point was that these chemicals reflect the taste of hops.
Sorry gents, but I tend to purchase 100% Arabica from overseas. Should I go back to Folgers?
(Also, not all Americans prefer anti-freeze bittering agent in their beers, but it does seem to be trendy at the moment).
You shouldn't take pictures if you are unsure of the legality of doing so.
If one can lawfully see the acts taking place, then one should be able to lawfully take a photograph. Or, is the logic such that "most people don't have a photographic memory, therefore it is not illegal to see as long as you'll have no permanent record of the events taking place"?
I, for one, have no issues with a programmer of either gender using "TINY_DICK_LOSER" as a constant name, aside from the old belief that capital "i" or "o" is generally bad form (ambiguous with "l" or "0" when using crappy fonts).
In fact, I might actually begin to socially respect said programmer for their sophomoric humor. I see have no animosity towards a joke here and there.
It's not like he created an obviously sexist constant such as "WOMEN_CANT_DRIVE" or "MAKE_ME_SAMMICH" or "GO_BACK2KITCHEN" or "DONT_BLEED_ON_MY_CODE".
But... your "tiny female brains" cannot cope with a comment about breasts?
It seems to me that you're being a little too sensitive, maybe I'm obese and I have large breasts... it certainly doesn't offend me. Even if they're using some weird base that would allow for WE3G0V32N025316B00B5. Still, who cares?
While ruling out the possibility that some alien species created us may be a bit hasty... the lack of evidence of these aliens, and the evidence suggesting spontaneous creation of organic enzymes being much stronger, I find it difficult to put any faith into the alien "theory."
...unless you meant that the Flying Spaghetti Monster created life. That's just, well, even less probable than aliens.
I guess I'm trying to say that for something to be seriously considered scientifically, there must be at least one plausible theory that correlates with the way we understand things currently, or abstract data — at the very least — to support further investigation. I do not see aliens or Santa Claus matching this description.
I don't believe climate change skeptics and those who support intelligent design should be wrapped together. While I don't fit into either group, I find that those who believe in "ID" are very often... well... retarded, but I've met individuals who are skeptical of climate change and do not appear to be retarded.
Given the input that I've received, I find this to be somewhat unfair to the global warming skeptics.
Apparently, there's some debate about whether or not having your credit card details set as what equates to public information is harm... but if you're speaking of the "fees" for the legal team, then I'd say yes, that's very free-market.
Why is it that in every instance which someone dislikes FOX for their political bending, we immediately assume that person is a "lefty" or democrat?
I find that I tend to lean slightly republican, yet I absolutely despise the multitude of instances where FOX has slanted data, even if it is in my political favor. The graph example posted by makomk is an excellent example of this.
This relates to the topic at hand: the lack of critical thinking. Is it that our vast ability to make erroneous assumptions leads to misinformation? I'd argue that many differences can be settled by calmly discussing them, and casting aside the fervor of our own belief systems.
I fully agree. I've been advocating basic critical thinking classes in our k-12 school system for years.
We did run a trial, before my time, and apparently (anecdotal) children began questioning their parent's belief systems, this lead to the obvious discontinuation of these classes. It's a little too late to be teaching basic critical thinking skills in college, but it'll take some work to get this curriculum in grade schools.
Some days, after many hours putting out fires in our "data cloud" (whatever the fuck that means), I find myself wanting a rotary phone and magazine instead of anything that contains a CPU.
Perhaps we need a new amendment, let's call it "the 4th amendment", that gives us a right to privacy of our persons and belongings. I mean, with a sealed airplane cabin, you're better off bombing a subway if you're going for death toll -- I fail to see a need for this behavior.
If she pays for the movie, then part of her ticket price goes the the labor required to remove her from said movie. My ticket price could be higher, if she was allowed a refund. I'd like to take it a step further, perhaps she should have been fined for her obnoxious behavior... and that money could be given back to the polite patrons as a form of "we're sorry about the sociopath with the cellphone, here's a 10% off coupon on your next movie".
At the risk of sounding like a sociopath myself, I'd even be in favor of flogging or chopping off her thumb... "alas such sweet justice shall never be the bust on my mantle."
You know, not sure where you are, but our sales team generally uses "pal" or "friend", and "buddy" is relatively rare.
Other than that, I'd say you "leveraged some good points", and "hit the nail on the head".
I agree. Outsourcing very rarely reduces the prices of things... and when it does so it's at the cost of wages of those loosing the business, which also happen to be ones purchasing the products.
Our company began outsourcing last year. Our "product" prices also went up, but so did our stock price. Outsourcing benefits the country being outsourced to, and it increases the profit margins of the company that is doing the outsourcing, but the consumer and employees loosing their jobs do not benefit directly.

^ Mod up please!
I've made the same dongle joke... I'm just so happy that I didn't get "caught" by someone who clearly cannot handle such a joke.

Well, MY CEO just bought a massive Island that he'll visit sometimes when he's not at one of his 6 luxurious mansions. Take that commies!

I commend you for taking the high road and reading the article, and then for not telling the other poster to STFU in return.
This behavior should be rewarded, especially on Slashdot... mods?

Exactly! I mean, it's probably cold in Antarctica... therefore no global climate change! Makes perfect sense.
Your face is libertarian babble.
But yes, flame war in 3... 2... 1...

For a minute there I thought somebody found a use for the Windows OS, besides gaming :-P
I find Windows is also useful for Netflix. But, yeah, gaming and Netflix sum up the usefulness of the Windows experience.

"Explain to me what is wrong the Harry Potter."
Are you asking "the Harry Potter" to explain what is wrong, or are you asking "what is wrong *with* Harry Potter?"
-1 for ambiguity
