True. A sort of reverse on this was popular in the early 90s where gov/com entities in restricted countries would form ShellCo GMBH which would in turn own ShellCo LLC in London and in turn ShelCo Ltd in Maryland. The Ltd would approach small fry resellers of Sun, SGI or other "high power" computing (at the time) gear and place a large volume order at retail pricing.

Unfortunately the Japan Red Cross has a terrible track record of actually getting money/aid where it is needed both in terms of time and of overhead. There are many other more effective places if you are interested in donating towards Tohoku relief. Second Harvest Japan and Japan Jewish Relief have both been very effective in this area from nearly day 1.

The answer to number 1 is in the reason for number 2. There is no basis for a class action lawsuit because people not only sign these contracts voluntarily but eagerly. Why do they continue to do so? They want to be famous. For people who never had this desire, it is almost impossible to understand how it can drive a person do do things far beyond the imagination of those not afflicted by it. OTOH every now and then you get someone like Mick Jagger who wants to be famous but isnt blinded to the business reality and does their homework to protect themselves.

The internet and cheap recording (relatively cheap; the biggest cost of a professionally produced, recorded, and pressed CD is the cost of the musical instruments) has rendered the RIAA labels entirely obsolete. RIAA lables are of no use to anyone in the 21st century.

You got upvoted by the adoring hivemind, but damn that is so full of wrong. You've never had first hand experience with the process of a "professionally produced, recorded and pressed CD" have you?

  18. Re:Odd sort of war on Google's Six-Front War · · Score: 0

Pretty much but the big difference point I see is that Google does not seem to be in it to win for any market other than ads. They just dont seem to care one way or the other about any of these things they toss out whereas MS has always been about markets. Oh, I remember talk about Netscape threatening to become the operating system but never any action on that front. Not to say the "browser wars" were nothing, but Netscape never did seem to have a strategy much less any tactics.

  19. Odd sort of war on Google's Six-Front War · · Score: 0

Looks to me like in most of the things Google has done in the non search/advertising area are really nothing more than throwing some monkey wrenches into various market segments just to screw up others rather than trying to "win" any particular market segment.
