Most of them - as I said before - were subsistence farmers and most have no education. None at all. They can't read or write.
At least at Foxconn where iPods and iPhones are made, all the workers have equivalent of high school educations and must be able to read and write. They must read instruction cards for their stations and write test results down on carrier cards.
Which is why it's so important to have legislation that shields people like manufacturers from the actions of their products' users
This really depends on what they manufacture. If you knowingly manufacture something dangerous, say a toy that is a choking hazard for young children, you may be held responsible (if you don't label, etc).
I am. I am saying there is precedence regarding postal, telephones, or other utilities with common carrier status. Common carriers have no legal liability for the contents of what they carry:
Is a coffee shop going to be held accountable if somebody sells drugs using the public phone next to the bathroom? Or discusses an illegal business deal at of their tables? Of course not, so why should they be help responsible for what people do over their Internet connection?
VHS and BETA has almost the exact same quality of video. Sony did license and try to share the standard. Get the facts, man. And BETA eventually allowed you to record more than 1 hour. I rented movies in BETA format. They came as one video.
It doesn't. It uses Mozilla for the browser. There is no java component of the Java Desktop except for the JVM. Evolution is the email client. Gaim for IM. StarOffice is the office suite. Totem for A/V. And Gnome 2.4 w/ Nautilus for the Desktop.
Netflix pushes almost as much bandwidth per day as the entire Internet. They push 1.5TB/day while the whole Internet is 2.0TB/day. See this slashdot story.

That's your choice, but I don't understand how somebody making proprietary software infringes on your freedom.
It is not them making proprietary software that infringes on my freedom. It is me using proprietary software that infringes on my freedom. I don't have the freedom to understand what it is doing. I don't have the freedom to bug fix or modify it. And with most EULA's, I lose even more freedoms.
Also, in the event that it crashes, it can re-open all the tabs you had open previously (I believe one of the Mozilla offshoots can do this, but I haven't seen any other browser).
Galeon does this. Although it rarely crashes, if it does, you can resume right where you left off. This is also nice if you log off a machine. When you come back, all the pages you were last at come right back. Galeon is the gnome browser based off of gecko. Galeon also has bookmarklets, quick proxy config, quick buttons to modify popup blocking/java/javascript. One of my favorite features is the smart bookmark toolbar which has quick links to google search, dictionary lookup, stock quotes, etc.
This is actually very true. I met a Unix admin for Microsoft at a bar in Mountain View, CA and he said the entire backend for hotmail.com is running Solaris on Sun servers. Then there are load balancers running FreeBSD. The only part of the picture that is running Windoze are the front end web servers.
In fact, M$ has a whole lab full of x86/windoze machines setup (that were going to be the hotmail.com servers until the expirement went terribly wrong). They use this decoy when journalists and such come to see hotmail.com in action.
Check out Honda's fuel cell car, the FCX, now leasing in California (albeit only 30 available this year). My only question is where you buy the compressed tanks of hydrogen you need to run this puppy.

Try Adium which has a nice Aqua GUI and uses libgaim underneath to support every IM service.
Safara 2.0 has so called "Private Browsing". Better not let the police know about that or they might just think MAC OS X is for terrorists.
I got one of these for $17 when it was on sale. I am not shitting you. The airlink101 pcmcia card was on sale for $10 and the router was $17.

and you didn't notice the plethora of drunk geeks at all the local bars?
Did you notice that the link you provided was a story from 2003 about the quarter ending June 2003? Hardly seems relevant today.
The way I deal with security is by making sure all the web sites on the web are fully patched before visiting them.

Would you like to go to a movie? If so, which one? When would you like to go?
You should try out gotmail which allows you to download all your messages into a MUA of your choice.
Well, there is a plugin to Evolution that allows shared calendering with Sun One Calender Server.

OOPS! Multiply those numbers by 1000.

I like to listen to mp3's and watch SVCD's in my SUV while I am high.
When I was in school, I did all my English papers in LateX. Probably overkill, but there is nothing like compiling your paper before printing it out!
