This is the problem with "sentience" in an AI Someone had to program in the bits and bytes. A *PERSON* or group of people came up with formulas and algorythms to describe the AI.

Aside from the obvious religous matters ("only god can create life", etc) we have to belive that a "Dumb" AI would diserve the same rights as a "Smart" AI.

What extent of intelect is required to be "Alive" and how could your "test" be devised to get around a little smart programing? If you only ask it questions and compare results, why should that be a valid test??? We don't hold any of our pets to those standards, yet they are most certainly sentient beings...

I would argue that there is really no way for an AI to be come truely sentient...even if it were programed to "mimic" sentience, that would only be part of its programming...not much different than a spam filter actually...

The overall finding is that the cheapest CD-Rs suck. Pretty much anything made by Ritek, CMC, or Princo will suck. This does wipe out ~90% of all CD-Rs out there. Imation, Memorex, and all of the silver CD-Rs are made by these cheaper companies.

Some of this information is dated, but I have found that Fuji CD-Rs in the blue spindles are now the best source in the states for CD-Rs by Taiyo Yuden. The article I linked to states that Fujis are made by Ritek. This is wrong. I am reading one of the Fuji CD-Rs right now that's over 3 years old and there's not one error.

The reason why selecting a make + model is worthless is that the autodetect routines like Redhat's anaconda already do this without user intervention. The other problem with this is that laptops change throughout their lifecycle. Some get video upgrades (Radeon 9000 to 9600), different wireless cards, etc.

The other thing is, Intel only specifies an 802.11b card, if the manufacturer decides on an integrated dual a/g or a/b card, they are then free to choose their own manufacturer.

The other point to all of this is that, the actual chipset used in the 2100 Pro is the Symbol Spectrum24 chipset. Which already has PCMCIA Drivers...no mention of Mini-PCI support, only that it isn't there yet.

However, Intel origonaly stated they would not support Centrino on Linux and then quickly back-peddled and said they would.

If you really want to know when Centrino support shows up, check this page on TuxMobil...

Speculation from vendors is that Intel probably has beta drivers in house and is waiting for Broadcom to release their wireless drivers.

If IBM were to buyout SCO, it would be percieved as an attempt to gain a monopoly on the proprietary UNIX market (something Sun wouldn't be too happy with).

The games in the top 10s are the games people are actually playing. They have played the game long enough and enjoy it enough to read a FAQ or post a message related to it.

Another idea to find good games is the PS2 "Greatest Hits" line. These games are a little older, but they sold alot of copies and they are highly rated titles. Sony isn't going to "taint" the line by releasing a POS under the "Greatest Hits" line.

Don't let anyone tell you what you'll like, just make an educated guess...if you're really hurting for titles to pick, you can try some games like...

    For PS2:

    - RPGs from SquareSoft (i.e. Final Fantasy X)
While these games aren't really from the D&D line, you will probably find the plot lines much more compelling...
    - Grand Theft Auto games (but I'm sure you will hear too much of this)
    - The Getaway for a little more story in a GTA-style game
    - Gran Tourismo 3 or Midnight Club
    - Metal Gear Solid 2 for a good spy game
    - the new Spy Hunter...yes, same name from the 80's, but it's 3D now
    - Devil May Cry (Kinda fun...run around killing the undead with magical swords and guns)...don't get Devil May Cry 2
    - Crazy Taxi

    XBox:

    - Halo

From most of the suggestions here, ppl are only listing the most recent games...most of the games I listed should be available without too much difficulty... Some games like Metal Gear Solid and Crazy Taxi are available on the XBox as well, but for most ppl, the PS2 is the only way to go...there's just more games for it...

If you're interested in a game, go to GameFAQs and figure out how active the boards have been in the past (don't have to read posts and FAQs, just get an idea how many ppl are there)...if you see alot of posts, you can be pretty sure that the game is fairly popular and therefore probably a good game.

If there are no FAQS for a game or no posts in a board, noone's playing it right now and noone liked it enough to make a FAQ or it's too easy to need a FAQ...for instance, Gran Turismo 2, a good game from the PS-One has a ton of FAQs and still has a fairly active message board...
